We all remember Sega as a huge force in the console market but if you think about it their only real success worldwide was the Genesis/MegaDrive. Everything else struggled, except for the Saturn in Japan and Master System in Brazil.

Where's the option for Model 2?

The mega drive was great. But the Dreamcast…man it felt so futuristic to me as a 14 year old. And the online play. In saying that, I just got a Saturn and I'm actually really enjoying it so far.

One reason MegaDrive was so popular in the UK compared to other consoles was footie games.

MegaDrive got the first ever FIFA as an exclusive and SNES got the excellent ISS to counter it.

Saturn just got a couple of awkward early 3D FIFA games, Dreamcast didn't even get that.

Sega had several attempts at football throughout the years but they were all bad.

Tough battle between the genesis and dreamcast, but maybe I'll have to go with genesis for now. It really defined Sega, and the action titles were very great, but it also had some underrated titles. Phantasy Star IV FTW

None, i missed all the good ones like megadrive and dreamcast and only had the shitty ones like the sega master system 2 plus and saturn.

So i guess saturn by default...

I feel like i never missed much, nintendo, arcade cabinets, pc and sony covered all my bases when i was little and i wasn't a sonic fan in the slightest.

What made me a Sonic fan was getting a Genesis tho

But maybe you dodged a lifetime of abuse

The first sega game i played was a sonic, it was included into the memory of my master system, it didn't even needed the cartdrige.

It was the one with the under the sea level where you gobble air bubbles.

The only positive memory i have of that game are the music and the sound you do when you collect the rings, kinda iconic.

I was more of a mario\dk type of guy.

Sonic for MS came out after Sonic 1, it's the Game Gear game...based on Sonic 1. They both have the Labyrinth zone with air bubbles, but the GG/MS game is a more methodical platformer and quite harder. I remember how on Game Gear, bosses had their own Act with no rings, kicked my ass back back then and forced me to sharpen up!

The Master System with Sonic 1 embedded was my first SEGA console and I loved it ! I also love Sonic 2 on MS, really great game.

Maybe, I should try the MS version of Sonic 2. The GG game, did not really agree with the low resolution, especially all the hang gliding, and I didn't like it.

Just like with the NES and N64 - it's a tough call between the Genesis and Dreamcast. I love and have huge nostalgia for both.

I went with Dreamcast even though I only played it for about 2 years because once the Xbox launched I never played my Dreamcast again.

I had my Genesis for 5 years and I don't remember playing a single non sports game on it. But I had way more important things than video games (football & baseball, being a top student , chasing girls) going on in my life from age 14 - 19 so it makes sense.

The Dreamcast had a few great sports games but my favorite memories are playing MDK 2, Soul Reaver, Tomb Raider, Draconus Cult of the Wyrm, Soul Caliber, Resident Evil, Ecco the Dolphin, etc...

Was never a Sega guy, but Genesis is the only one that mattered. I know Dreamcast is the sentimental favorite for many, but by the time it dropped the brand was already sinking into the shitter.

They didn't make the effort to adapt to the lower res on GG sadly. But the game is fine on MS.

LAME

I actually never got past Green Hill zone in this game. To everyone who didn't play it, yes I beat the first level, green hill was deep into the game. The first thing they give you is a lava, mine cart level. Def a weird Sonic game, even by Sonic standards.

It's a bit difficult but I really liked it. Green Hill at night was super cool.

I don't think I've tried it in decades, but every time I got to Green Hill I simply ran out of lives falling into bottomless pits and had to start the game over again. Without save states I never figured out the solution to the completely blind hang gliding they make you do.

Dreamcast but it felt like cheating not selecting Saturn (which is still plugged in and used regularly).

Mastersystem was an awesome machine too. Never been disappointed with Sega.

It does need a bit of trial and error I agree.
