Before I begin, let it be known that *EVERY* Star Trek series is inherently crappy for the first three seasons. Period. I wish it weren't true, but it is. Once the actors get comfortable with their characters and the writers build enough back story, these series typically get good.
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE:
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Best developed characters. Best relationships. This series showed us that the Federation was not perfect. It had its flaws.. its darker side. The Maquee, the treaty with the Cardassians, Section 31.. just a taste of how this series turned Starfleet's "utopian" society on its ear. And then there's the series' crowning achievement... the war with the Dominion. Painstakingly drawn out over multiple seasons, it is the single greatest story arc ever to come out of the franchise. The battles, the death, the loss and the victory. Lead characters died. New ones were added. The ferengi, changelings, Jem Hedar and other unique species were deeply explored. And let there be no doubt that Gul Dukat is the greatest villan of all of Star Trekdom.
SECOND FAVORITES:
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Great characters, though not as many of them grew (Dr. Crusher, Geordi for example). Some good story arcs, but only a handful of events that had long-lasting changes. There's too much to like about this series to say but I don't consider it better than DS9.
Star Trek: Voyager
Okay, everyone is quick to diss Voyager but like I said... give it a few seasons and it gets better. Most all of the characters were given room to change and grow. There were some real stinker episodes mixed in this series but there were also long, well done story arcs and a real sense of continuity.. maybe more than even Next Generation (but not as much as DS9). Give this series a chance. The characters really grew on me.
I WANT TO LIKE:
Star Trek: Enterprise
So far, nothing remarkable. I dig time travel stories but even in it's early life this show has already dug that ditch too deep. I like the "pre-history" aspect and some of the characters like Trip are fun but most are bland. The actor who play's Archer gives the captain such a stiff delivery. I'll give it more time to mature.
I TOTALLY DISPISE:
Star Trek: The Original Series
I used to watch this after school when it was in syndication on one of the local TV stations. While I never really "liked" it, it was at least science fiction and better than any other garbage on TV at that hour. Now, when I look back at how bad this series is... so pretentious, so annoyingly bad acted, so rediculous in nature I can't stand it. Die hard fans can suck it, the Next Generation series blew this crap out of the water.
