FCC to investigate, 'take appropriate action' on Colbert’s Trump rant

Late night talk show host Stephen Colbert’s controversial joke about President Trump drew the attention of the Federal Communications Commission. The agency received “a number” of complaints about Colbert’s commentary earlier in the week, according to the FCC’s chief.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai promised to “take the appropriate action” following a comprehensive investigation of Colbert’s remarks.

Colbert on Monday unleashed a flood of insults at Trump, satirizing an interview with CBS news the president cut short the day before.

“The only thing your mouth is good at is being [Russian President] Vladimir Putin’s c—k holster,” he said of Trump.

I saw this posted on Twitter and wanted to share since I saw the thread here about Colbert going in on Trump. The FCC is going to look into whether Colbert's remarks can be considered "obscene" via three-tier Supreme Court test, which means it “must appeal to an average person’s prurient interest; depict or describe sexual conduct in a ‘patently offensive’ way; and, taken as a whole, lack serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value."

So Trump can flat out say he grabs women by the pussy and gets to be President, yet Colbert can't say anything? Its his show, get over it.

Meanwhile Trump's 2020 reelection campaign manager cries the destruction of free speech because they can't air their shitty Fake News ad.

We are fucked.

But... but... liberals just want to use government to regulate free speech!

As far as I'm concerned conservatives are full of shit.

if nothing else, it has overt and clear political value, so nothing is going to happen

Pretty sure Obama didn't put him there

He is Trump's guy. He was there with Obama but he got a promotion.

He has served in various positions at the FCC since being appointed to the commission by President Barack Obama in May 2012, at the recommendation of Mitch McConnell. He was confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate on May 7, 2012,[1] and was sworn in on May 14, 2012, for a five-year term.[3] In January 2017, President Donald Trump elevated Pai to Chairman of the agency.[4][5] In March 2017, President Donald Trump announced that he would renominate Pai to serve another five-year term at the FCC, which will require confirmation by the U.S. Senate.[6] Before his appointment to the FCC, Pai held positions for the Department of Justice, the United States Senate, the FCC's Office of General Counsel, and Verizon Communications.

Does Trump not know that the best way to make a nickname or insult stick is to be a whiny little bitch about it?

Well technically speaking, Trump said a despicable thing in private in a "locker", outside of any actual regulations. His punishment should have been moral backlash.

Colbert called him a cocksucker in tv, which is regulated, therefore, could possibly be punished by the FCC, as arbiter of those regulations.

The thing is, Trump should have been punished by the american voters, they fumbled their responsibility.

The FCC is not.

Good way to boost his ratings. With all the other innuendo and rude jokes Colbert does it's stupid to jump on him for essentially just saying cock. Even so, the show, Colbert himself, and CBS have got clout. Don't see anything major happening from this.

Hope Colbert gets some good material and a ratings bump from this.

I have a feeling all the people calling in complaints were not actually watching. Probably just saw it on Foxnews or something.

Maybe next they will finally take out the Bulgarian Brute Resuv
