FCC to investigate, 'take appropriate action' on Colbert’s Trump rant

Sometimes I feel like the only person who doesn't immediately want somebody fired when they express a viewpoint I don't agree with.

It is somewhat hilarious how each side screams free speech when the person is on their side yet demands a person be burned at they stake when they say something they don't agree with.

Which side are you referring to?

If you're talking about the Jon Jafaris' or Richard Spencers' of the world, no one is saying they don't have free speech. What people are saying is we don't want to associate with them in the public eye and rightfully so.

They spout toxic and genocidal ideas. Keep that shit out from video games or universities.

Where are you all alt-right assholes who kept crying for free speech now, huh?
Exactly. Shouldn't this topic be lighting up with angst and resistance over at The_D and similar? ... Yea, that's what I thought. We all know what anti-censorship and free speech people really mean.

LOL, what a pathetic attempt. They're not going to meet the SC test. Such a terribly blatant PR move, I can't help but laugh.

I'm convinced this is also partially a reaction to O'Reilley. "You get one of ours fired, we go after one of yours."

woah woah woah hold up guys

so you NeoGAF netizens are "offended by" people advocating for literal genocide (see: richard spencer and his """peaceful""" ethnic cleansing)...

...and yet are apparently totally fine with the fact that this joke was made involving The Penis

such tomfoolery, sigh

both sides, am i right fellow intellectuals?

when you say both sides do you realize how garbage that is and keep going with it? or do you think it's smart and are unaware it isn't?

do i have to link to the Official Reddit of Donald Trump to justify making my snarky post about the right being snowflakes and both sides etc.

EDIT: oh wait they're doing that thing again where they try and manipulate SEO to signal boost stolen emails, guess i won't be finding those on mobile

point being, it's hypocritical for someone to bluster about political correctness but cry whenever a joke is made about them

Welp. That's that. I think. I don't watch a lot of tv.. but is this on par?

Could you expand on what you mean by on par?

My initial reaction to your post is no. No this is not on par.

But I don't recall any late night talk show host saying about the POTUS, "In fact, the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s cock holster.”

I honestly think that what Colbert did that night will be remembered for a long time. Also, I don't think there is anything the FCC or the Feds will be able to do anything about it.

Why did you quote that poster?

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
What in the world is a "grap 1c ace removal"

And I have to see that Schick commercial :lol

It's amazing how no one who submits complaints to the FCC can spell or type for shit. It took me looking up the episode to know what they were even referring to.

"Graphic face removal" is what they meant. These people must just get so heated they can't see straight.

Maybe there is a panic over on "Woke Twitter" like that Twitter thread says, but on here I see people being more derisive of the symbolic hypocrisy of right falling all over themselves after a single joke against them after all that "snowflake" blustering.

I'm probably being too undirected in my snarkiness - I mean no derision towards tuxfool. The start of that thread expresses a correct point, but I think in the context of the right wing this is still worthy of ridicule.

The issue isn't criticism of people making accusations of hypocrisy, just folks believing the FCC is doing anything out of the ordinary or at the behest of a whiny president. It's nothing but their normal review process they perform with every complaint they receive, and the director was describing that accurately after he was asked about it in an interview.

yep, this is happening more and more, people are getting so flustered and upset that things are happening "now that Trump is in office" when it's just normal stuff that happened all the time

Like, I hate Trump with a passion, but if liberals are going to be champions of truth, actually learn to fact check this stuff, otherwise you're no better than Republicans when it comes to "alternative facts"

I just want to remind everyone that under W. they tried a similar thing and when after "indecency" over the airwaves and on tv and for a time they did sanction and censor some until they where rebuked in court and backed down. It's the same playbook with these assholes.

This is nothing but the FCC following their normal process of following up on complaints. They didn't initiate this on their own.

So this is the new normal.

A thin skinned president that has his goons go after his critics.

I meant this is literally a few days after we learned that he tried to unmask a twitter user that said mean things to him.

This is really getting frustrating.

We need to pick our battles. Getting worked up over nonsense isn't going to help.

That's how it started with W. the nipple slip at the super bowl caused an avalanche of censorship they where just whait if for a catalyst.

People submitted complaints. The FCC reviews every complaint. There is nothing happening here that wouldn't have happened 10 months ago.

wat?
I'm not getting worked up. It's just disappointing but minor in the grand scheme of things.

The disappointment should be directed at people submitting complaints. The FCC isn't be directed by anyone but them, by virtue of that agency's standard procedures.

Last year I would have felt the same way, but it seems the way forward is to incite the base. Yeah, it might be a tad misleading to reference this FCC review in our indictment of right wing hypocrisy since this review is just business as usual for the FCC, but in the context of the outrage against Colbert by those who ironically wax lyrical about political correctness themselves it is a useful background detail to hang them on.

Yes, this is business as usual. Looks like the very special and tough Trump who tells it like it is... isn't above business as usual when it comes to getting his feelings hurt.

I don't understand what you mean by this. He isn't involved in the process at all.

We need to direct this in a useful direction.

He's involved because the joke was made about him and now one of his fans put in a complaint to the FCC about the joke. Yes, there may be plenty of asinine FCC complaints all the time, but we're not the ones who make such a big deal at never being offended by anything. The principle of general civility has been demonized and turned into a partisan issue... which means they can't exactly invoke it now.

I think this attacks their image of being tough and telling it like it is unlike those snowflake liberals quite well. Hits them where it hurts.

Well, exactly. And that's quite a different problem than a president ordering a government agency to target a critic, so we should be accurate in diagnosing the situation if we want to address it.

I got Colberts back. I fully support him telling that pussy grabbing fascist cunt bag to go die in the most vulgar way possible.

To be fair, various outlets are misreporting it using the term "investigating". Its rational for people to get upset when they see the word "investigate".
