FECKING G-Spot they tricked us again

Supposedly the first pic is of the Xbox 360 processor: IT AIN'T!

Look at the second picture which IS a POWER5 die shot.

Rotate the first photo 90 degrees clock-wise and they FREACKING match.

I cannot believe I fell for that trick too: I guess was too excited to see the Xbox 360 CPU.

Credit goes to Crazyace who first pointed out the strange "similarity" between those two pictures ;).

EDIT: Clever, they also mirrored it horizontally after they got done rotating the image.

Why would Gamespot do that?

I'm sure they have samples. I'd be concerned about meeting a November launch if they don't have samples yet. What you probably mean is that mass production has yet to begin (?)

Haha, so Microsoft is aiming for a Spring 2007 launch? If the MPU hasn't sampled yet then they are so fucked it isn't even funny. For comparison, Cell taped-out in late 2003, first sampled in the first half of 2004.

PS. Don't feel so bad bud, they're evil bitchs' Panajev... mirror and rotation. *shakes head*

???? You can (and typically do) have final production sampling as little as a month or two before mass production.

Uh, you said quite clearly:

The time from the tape-out/sampling period (eg. the not "sampling yet" for a "month of two" period) to production ramp for a modern multimillion gate IC is generally on the order of a year, plus or minus (and generally plus). Goodnight.

Gamespot "The Xbox 360 processor will be based on the IBM PowerPC architecture."

You guys are all idiots.

Or perhaps you are.

Based on the PowerPC architecture is different than taking a POWER5 picture and posting it as if it were Xbox 360's GPU.

We know what core was the "father" of both Xbox 360 CPU cores and of the CELL based Broadband Engine's PPE: it is not POWER5.

"FECKING G-Spot they tricked us again #1 "

Trust me dude, you are not the only one tricked by that damn G-spot. Where is that thing anyway. :D

I was under the assumption that it was 3 powerpc architectures. I don't see how it wont be the same, we got served the same thing with the CPU in the Xbox Celeron with minor modifications.

CELL's and XeCPU both descend from a common NEW PowerPC core IBM has developed: this core is also referenced by IBM in one of its pages dedicated to CELL.

Of course MS+IBM for Xbox 360 and Sony/SCE+IBM+Toshiba had different objectives and requirements for each final CPU so they differentiated.

Have you ever heard of true and non-true twins ;) ?
