Female soldiers will not be playable in Battlefield 4's multiplayer or singleplayer

Lol, keep telling yourself that. Because there were clearly so many guys that had an issue with the lead characters from Bayonetta, Mirror's Edge, Portal, Tomb Raider, Heavenly Sword, Alice, and were demanding for all the female characters to be taken out of Uncharted, Halo, Gears of War, Mortal Kombat, etc. What a sexist, misogynistic boy's club video gaming is.

Get over yourself.

Not that this is widespread, but we did have a poster in this very thread saying that BF is a war game designed for men and they shouldn't compromise their game by adding women in MP.

WHY ARE WE DISCUSSING GAMES ON A GAMING FORUM? WE NEED TO DISCUSS THE WAR IN IRAQ BECAUSE THE MEDIA ISN'T DOING ANYTHING AND NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT IT.

Sorry I may have left some context out there out of frustration.

The last line I said was directed at the media in general. I'm wise enough not to come to a gaming forum to discuss world events.

I'd play one just because I could.

I chose a female Shepard because I wanted something other than the generic male leads we've been bombarded with.

Alucrid, why did you make that initial antagonizing and misrepresenting post of yours when you have actual arguments??

Because you have no evidence that her visit didn't have an influence?

Evidence? I am simply pointing out that what is supposed to be the representative of DICE didn't bother to display any reasoning or elaborations that payed respect to egalitarian values. It is safe to presume that Sarkeesian's visit was aimed at such values.

All you're going off of is the fact that there's no female multiplayer models (which as duckroll said could be a technical issue)

Duckroll hasn't posted in this thread. The technical issue has been to some extent refuted time and time again.

and your interpretation of one line taken out of context from a trailer.

What does that have to do with the option of playing female soldiers in a game?

Not to mention that the talk only happened a few months ago.

Whether or not the "talk" was well ahead of the production of BF4, the representatives of DICE should have learned enough about gender representation to respectfully discuss the issue when they have to explain gender-related design decisions.

All this would be a non-issue if DICE were to release mod tools. However, this is literally impossible, as you apparently need to be a rocket scientist to understand the intricacies of the Frostbite "Higgs Boson" engine.

I would be all in for Dice adding female playable characters. In fact, I think it would up there sales. I know several women who play FPS's now and would probably love to be able to play as a character that's a woman.

I like to get you riled up.
So because one person didn't not want to or was unable to disclose further information on their design process the entire thing ends up as a wash for the company as a whole?
It was Nirolak, my mistake.
Cross thread polination is all the rage these days.
The only refutation of the technical issues I saw is that they have the wire frame or animation or model or w/e in the single player already, if there's anything more in depth that you can point me towards, even better if it was from someone who makes games, then that would be great.

Did anyone really say this? The only argument I remember was that women had smaller hitboxes and this would create a balance issue.

War game that is designed for males and played by males must have a woman included just to make a quota.

I do agree that hitboxes COULD be a concern, but with all the gear that characters wear, I really don't think it would be an issue.

Also, someone mentioned that Blacklight Retribution has male/female models, with slightly different hitboxes that don't really impact gameplay.

And then there's this:

Someone did.

I have to say I really don't like the modern practice of adding something just to make it compliant.

Next there will be crying for women characters in a World War 2 game or something like it .

Luckily it's not a widely held opinion in this thread.

The top international stories in the NYT today are:

U.S. Begins Stealth Bombing Runs Over South Korea
Damascus Students Killed in Mortar Strike
Turkey Reverses Plans to Deport 130 Syrian Refugees

Should these not have been reported, and instead a story involving ??? in Afghanistan and Iraq?

I think it has way more to do with the work that having a different skeleton, rigging, and animation set would cause, then if little johnny is ok with shooting women in the face.

you can force the male skeleton on the female models but they are going to look like alice the goon. or they can make the male skeleton kind of female -ish, and then you have something that looks like the sims.

figure every animation would have to be recaptured from female mo-cap, and/or hand animated for that new skeleton.

I remember something about uncharted having to make all the multiplayer models have the exact same vert count and vert order to share animations. huge pain in the ass.

the hitbox mention earlier is really interesting, hadn't even thought about that aspect.

Not a big loss nor big gain either. It's cool to have representation of both genders in military shooters but ain't necessary unless it plays off a theme they're trying to portray. Plus, I'm in a tank most of the time in mutliplayer, you all look the same getting blown up.

There's nothng wrong wih playing as a male character.

This is a spectacular example of missing the point and (whether you intended or not) incorrectly viewing "choice" as an attack.

No one said there was anything wrong with playing as a male character. Some people, however, would appreciate the choice between the two.

Ripley: [pointing to part of gun DICE is showing her] What's this?
DICE: That's the grenade launcher. I don't think you want to mess with that.
Ripley: You started this. Show me everything. I can handle myself.
DICE: I dunno, market research shows it might upset part of our target demographic

So good.

Why not? There's nothing else that needs changing apart from those 2.
New model, new set of animations (assuming that they haven't already been made for the female character), new textures, new lines of dialogue, hitbox balancing troubleshooting.

You make the men and women the same height and give them the same simple hitbox.

This problem is so solved

Has anyone seen this? Apparently it's soldier models that Activision is making for it's next gen games.

I think this is a woman soldier. And can anyone honestly tell me they have a problem with this as opposed to men soldiers?

I mean even if few people use this model only, it's still more inclusive than not having it. It's not about social engineering or propaganda, but about equality and inclusiveness.

I'm sure out of 10 models to choose from in multiplayer, they can make at least 1-2 women.
