Mixed. Police in the US always have live ammo just incase. However, most are wielding batons and have rubber bullets and tear gas to toss at demonstrators as needed. But if something were to happen, they all have live ammo.

I hope the world is paying close attention to this... Will be awesome fodder for when Barry lectures others on their human rights issues (save for the usual suspects like Bahrain and Saudi). Would be great if they put that sniper rifle pic in his face.
 
It's crazy to think that there has been no info to come out on the cop who did this yet. All these eyewitness testimonies it just doesn't seem like there is any defense for what he did. They are defending their own beyond all reason at this point.

Why not? I don't get what I'm seeing since I'm not an american. Just based on the photos seems the "police" is waging war against civilians.

And why would you need SWAT teams for a protest? shouldn't it be normal police? is there a thing as riot containment that doesn't involve shooting people?

They are cops like all the other cops. So, all cops in the area (not only Ferguson) got their vacation cancelled and have been called. So, SWAT is going to do the same thing the rest of the cops are doing hold the protest line in their normal gear.

Not enough cops in the area, so SWAT has to work too. SWAT also has a lot of non-lethal gear that normal cops don't have.

Didn't foresee a cop sitting on top of a APC with an sniper rifle strapped to a tripod scoping out protesters in St. fucking Louis making it to the top stories of 2014 list.

Edit: is that an assualt rifle or sniper rifle? I can't tell, looks like some shit from call of duty with all those fucking attachments.

There was no defense for the Oscar Grant killing, the scumbag who did it only got 2 years (11 months served) for a murder caught on tape. If it's the words of young black teenagers vs a cop, history tells me this douchebag will get off lightly.

I don't disagree. I'd love it if the President could talk about racial issues in a country that still has significant racial issues, especially considering that he's black and is raisng black children and very much has a dog in the fight.

However, the reality of the situation makes his silence or a weak PR response style statement understandable to me.

Then why doesn't he.... just do it? What is there to lose anymore? Impeachment? Those GOP fools are trying to impeach him for much more ridiculous reasons, and it's not like it'd work. Is he afraid most citizens are stupid enough to incite civil war over his say in the manner? No, those are just the extremists...the same people who already sway one way or another and would fish for much more indirect means to do something like that.

Here's his chance to make a real difference. At least put into it what you did with Trayvon, at least that would be something. Yes, he is everyone's President but for a long time it seems as though he's taken the support of certain groups for granted, and has already dropped the ball in other areas (the bank bailouts and repercussions groups, net neutrality, etc.). Why is President Obama openly and even aggressively supportive of all social issues except for those that disproportionately affect Black Americans negatively?

I have already lost so much respect for him over the past few years, the lack of meaningful insight into this from his part would only continue that trend.

SWAT personnel will still have their regular uniforms. Even if they didn't, someone should (but they won't) see that having their police show up in military hand-me-downs to a peaceful protest paints a disgusting picture

Obama is not grand emperor sorry to tell you. He has already instructed the justice department to ferguson. Until these cops start indiscriminently killing the protestors then there is not much else to do.

You have ex military speaking, you have police speaking, you have everyone condemning the level of illustrated force & snipers. Minus you downplaying this all as just normal. Its not normal. Its disgusting to see citizens treated this way.

People are going crazy because black people are shot to death,then the military shows up to protests after some looting aiming sniper rifles at people holding up signs.

keep pretending that you think people are simply upset at kits. And not being aimed at by a sniper, literally right now. Singing and protesting.
