Ferguson: Police Kill 18yo Black Male; Fire Gas/Rubber Bullets Into Protesting Crowds

There is nothing understandable about burning down innocent people's businesses and stealing from people that weren't involved. All the people doing that are scum.
So you can't understand why someone might steal or burn down a building? You can be scum and your actions still be understandable.

Owner of the clothing store looted was black.

Hurting one's own community.

Also the mayor is getting death threats, but that's including 'anonymous' as mentioned earlier in the thread.
That always happens during riots. People go crazy and don't realize they are hurting their own community. They burn down the stores and places where their own neighbors work at, they steal from their neighbors, and in the end their neighbors leave further destroying their own community.

Good thing you aren't widely quoted. The rioting and looting wouldn't be happening if cops didn't regularly harass and kill people of color.

And the business owners are responsible for this in what capacity? The employees of these businesses are responsible in what capacity? Or are you saying it's perfectly okay to riot and loot completely innocent and uninvolved businesses and/or homes because you have a beef with the police?

It's a good thing they can resort to looting. That stolen 18 pack will show them we won't stand for this shit any longer. Same goes for these new clothes and that iPod from the burning Radioshack down the street.

In what way does this help progress anything? They couldn't even wait for the investigation results before making the protest a selfish thing?

A riot is the language of the uncivilized. -Me. Just now. There is absolutely no excuse for looting against businesses or homes that have absolutely nothing to do with your grievances. None. And as a "bonus," it harms the cause in question.

"uncivilized"

filed and understood

your avatar should be pointing up

People looting don't care about the dead kid or the situation in general, they just want some free shit while there's confusion. Rioting isn't exactly a useful thing to do either, put this is pent-up frustration at a system that views people as walking corpses.

Some reports on Twitter that rioters may be entering homes now. Be alert if you live in the area. /u/TheDeech

Fucking lovely, hope its fake..

Despite all this, my friends were able to make it home safe (thank god!). And I agree that it's pretty obvious that the looters and protesters aren't one and the same.

Absolutely, but unfortunately I can see the media completely twisting it into being one in the same.

Taking advantage of a peaceful protest like this and malforming it into something as despicable as a looting riot is disgusting and the dumbasses who are doing this need to get the sense kicked in them.

That one sports store has been looted at least 3 times tonight. Looters come, cops come, looters go, cops go, looters come, e.t.c.

Yes Virginia, riots can solve problems:

Many governments and political systems have fallen after riots, including:

Tsarist Russia
The Confederate States of America, for example after the Southern Bread Riots
Ancien Régime
British rule in India, when bread and salt riots hastened the withdrawal in 1947
Governments across the Middle East and North Africa during the Arab Spring

Not to mention all the labor movement related riots. Without rioting, you folks would still be working twelve hour days.

Couldn't have said it better.

The start of the looting made me think of this bit of 90s cinema.

Whats more likely to happen is the media stops talking about the unarmed 17 year old killed by the police and starts showing vine footage of people looting and destroying property instead.

I don't think this situation is comparable. These people are rioting for purely selfish material reasons. It's despicable.

Some white kids from my neighborhood drove up to LA to loot during the Rodney King riots. They didn't see Brad from Sublime, though.

The problem is that in modern America there is no ideological escape from liberalism, so rioting turns away from political objectives with clear programs and goals into crass materialism since money/trinkets are the only things that matter, the things which define life. Ties right into alienation from production etc... (edit: which as a sidenote always makes me sigh when people go "But what about the businesses? They're harming the community!!" Well yes but at the same time that's missing the point of why people have no economic power and thus desire material items and decide to go loot them when they get the chance).

Violence is useful when put towards progressive ends. This is just sound and fury and opportunism, but it is still important to recognize the causes (not just police brutality and racism but the capitalist system which underlies it all and causes people to have such goals).

For a city of 20k, I don't see how they can come back from this. Why would a business stay around for a community that treats their stores like this

Damn it, it's the Timothy Thomas riots all over again.

Link for those who don't know what that is.

Those riots didn't do shit then and they won't do shit now. What makes this worse however is that it started out peacefully. They were being defended by the whole internet about how peaceful this was. Then this shit. I just can't guys, not again.

I'm pretty sure this just takes all media sympathy from the community and gives it to the police that have to try and patrol those areas everyday.

Well there goes any national sympathy for the situation. Fuck.

That is the true tragedy of the looting (in addition to those who may be harmed).

Many will not be able to separate the peaceful protest from the criminal looters. And the child killing cop will become an afterthought... Its sad.

There is a picture I keep seeing on twitter which they say is a local Walmart being looted but I'm pretty sure that picture is form the Katrina looting in New Orleans.

How old are American cop cars?
Years range all over the US. It all depends on the budget of the police department, the condition of the cars, and local laws ruling safety for emergency vehicles.

For example, in big cities, cars get replaced every 3 to 5 years but depending on the unit they may keep their cars for decades. I know that our swat had a police wagon from 1985 until the year 2011 because they hardly ever used it.
