... not that it's a bad thing ... to be Saga-fied.

But regardless, <3 FFIII remake (about *@!%$#@' time).

My surety was based on knowing that Kawazu was asked 2 days ago (off the record) about FFIII DS, and that he honestly replied that he hadn't started working on it yet...

Kawazu! No!!!!!!
rk and Dragona am cry total.

Oh well, give me a DS SaGa game then and all will be forgiven.

Well that kinda sucks. I wanted FFIII totally Kawazu-ized. :|

But now we can get Romancing SaGa and SaGa (GB) to DS! Make it happen Square-Enix!

<3 Kawazu!

First the new DS announcements, and now this. It's tough being a gamer :(

I guess it's a great time for rich gamers though

This is really nice and all, but, um, Chrono Trigger? Please?

I'm really looking forward to when the FFVII DS remake speculation starts.

Holy crap! Now we need DQ4-6 remakes using the same engine!!!

Holy schnikes, sir, me and you are on teh same page!

I can barely imagine portable FFV with that job system! ARGH, the perfect game for the crapper!

Too much good news!

Except that they just announced FFVI for GBA, and a full-fledged remake for DS would just make the GBA version redundant.

scrap the GBA version in favor of a DS one, anyway fuck it I'll buy all those FF anyway can't ask for too much

Awesome, awesome news. I just picked up an SP+ and it's totally rekindled my interest in GBA games (in much the same way the original SP did when I traded in my launch GBA) and these totally fuel the fire. The only thing left to truly appease me 100% would be, as others have mentioned, some Dragon Quest lovin' (and maybe a little CT for good measure). Who needs new titles when you can relive your 16-bit days on the go?!

And I said last year when it was announced that FFIII would be the title to get me to buy a DS, and I stand by that. I was expecting a 2D remake that wouldn't really take advantage of the DS in any way (aside from touch menus, I guess), and so I was a bit pissed at SE for not just putting in the GBA where I thought it belonged, but the 3D-ness is slowly bringing me around to the DS.

Bah. What am I supposed to do now? I always said that the Final Fantasy games went downhill when they turned 3D... I'll have to creatively backpeddle to get out of that little line of reasoning.

Perhaps I can switch to "before extended video clips"!

Yes, completely the same here. That screen, those colors...it's so awesome seeing these games the way they're supposed to be seen, finally, and it makes me much more interested in playing all the ones I haven't got around to. FF5 and FF6 will be mine, and even though I have no nostalgia and little love for FF4...I still feel like picking it up for some reason.

Based on these tiny tiny screenshots, I like the direction they're going with FF3.

RPGs with prerendered backgrounds > RPGs with annoying 3D environments that you have to constantly rotate to see anything.

Well these Final Fantasy announcements sure breathe life into the GBA (3rd pillar anyone?). I sort of thought GBA development was winding down. Does Nintendo even have any more games yet to come out on the GBA?

Are there any Crystal Chronicle pics as well?

And does someone have that Mana 4 pic handy?

These games all seem to have a similiar look/feel to them.

New Square style?

oh no I got owned :(

CRAFTY WORDSMITH! Little did I suspect Square would take him off and replace the staff with decent and actually talented people. So he was telling the truth, but FFIII still exists. I guess he had to move off cause he's Executive Producing FFXII, now?

In my defense, this FFIII DS bears absolutely no relation to the staff or gameplay style of the remake announced alongside the DS long, long ago. So, uh, that game doesn't exist, and never did, and was never worked on outside of a paper launch.

But this new FFIII looks way awesomer, so I'm glad to be owned and look forward to playing it! Huzzah!

Yeah... looks like everyone who read your post last night immediately thought of you.

:lol

How strange that just mere hours later this would be announced.

But seriously, this is awesome. Too cool for words. FFI-VI all on one portable (er... legally)!

I never played FF3 but I've played 4,5,6 and 9.

What's good about 3?

3 served up the job system that later flourished in FF5. It lacks identifiable protagonists, nameless 'light warriors' are the heroes under your command, but the quest is charming and well developed. I'd imagine the remake will sport more jobs and modernized features to make up for the age of this title.

This is awesome news.

I loved FF3 the most out of all the FF titles simply because it had some of the coolest level design for its day. There were so many hidden treasures and the quest was so long and amazing that it's surprising that Square was never able to make another FF game with the kind of quality it had (for its time). It's clearly outdated now, which makes it all the better that they are fully remaking it in 3D and presumably with new features and possibly even new dungeons or quests. Perhaps they'll even give personalities, names, and genders to the four nameless warriors.

To the Kawazu haters: screw you all. other than his most recent titles in which he was merely an executive producer or regular producer of (meaning he had almost no role in game creation), I seriously doubt any of you have played actual games that he crafted (which would be some of the early FF games, the GB and SuperFami SaGa titles, and others well before the PSX era). In his current position, Kawazu has as much of a role in Square games as Satoru Iwata has on Nintendo games.

Thanks!
I liked FF5 alot so I'll definitely be picking up 3.

And thus FFIII becomes the oldest new-school Final Fantasy. What a strange beast that game is. Think they'll include an old-school version on the card, a la Metroid:Zero Mission?

Too bad he's credited as director and producer of Saga Froniter I, Saga Froniter II and Unlimited Saga, huh? I guess it's just a coincidence that all those three are unplayable pieces of ass...and obviously, despite being credited as director of those abortions, Kawazu had absolutely nothing to do with the quality of them.

And hey, if he's just like Iwata(meaning, has no involvement in the games he has "worked" in), why are his fans(ugh) clamoring for his involvement? After all, it'd be meaningless, amirite?

From IGN:

The game's visuals have changed considerably, Tanaka admits, but in order to preserve the image of the original, staff members from the original, including Kazuhiko Aoki and Koichi Ishii, are supervising the remake. New members are also playing big roles in the game's development. Tanaka revealed that FFXI's Ryosuke Aiba is serving as art director and FFXII's Akihiko Yoshida is serving as character designer on the project.

DKC 3 (with Rare) and Mario Tennis, as well as some games they have on reserve that they could always release in the US

F-zero 3
More Hamtaro Games
Sim Tower
That 1000 year family game

Hopefully they aren't using that armor crap that Kawazu wanted...looks like I will be getting a DS next year.

Please fix those annoying dungeons and damage, guys!

One the one hand : Yeah, these Announcements are good, but will these games make it to Europe ? Or even to the US ?

Well, considering that it was Nintendo of America that broke the news of FF4 coming to GBA, than I say yes to these games leaving Japan.

So Hot. PSP Am Cry, Square knows what sells and what doesn't.

No, Square in this case knows what has ALREADY sold A LOT (GBA hence all the FF games there) and what is still selling, but does not have an eual user-base. FF III on the DS is likely due to the fact the DS in Japan is a bit more succesful than the PSP though.

I don't know much about FFIII, so can someone who has played it tell me if it have the same ass backward experience system as FFII? I really hated that. I'm hoping it has the same one as all of the rest of the Final Fantasies.

It's just like FFV, except magic is equippable (think FFVII) and you can't mix and match abilities. You still grind for experience just like every other FF except II

It's more like a midpoint between FF1 and FF5..you get jobs (new ones are available when you get to a new crystal), but the jobs only differentiate by their stats, what they can equip, and the (usually) one 'unique' command they have; no ability systems or anything like that. You can't learn White Magic then put that onto a Knight; the Knight is stuck with his ability only.

You get Capacity points instead of AP..jobs level up, but all that I know that levelling up a job does is it costs fewer Capacity points to change back to that job from another job.

Think more of FF1 than FF5.

As belgurdo said, you buy magic in shops again, but only the magic-casting jobs can use them; you'll have to switch to a magic-casting job to use the spells. Wonder if they'll fix the spell "money trick".

You get experience points; as you level up (maybe gain hit% like in 1), more hits for weapons. Spells are cast via spell charges, like in FF1, but you could get more than 9 per level.

That was all in the original..who knows if they mix things up a little though. Wonder if they'll add a save point or 2 to the last dungeon..

square ENIX is making Mario Basketball for the DS?

Why Nintendo why? I have absolutely no faith in Square Enix to develop a good sports game.. should have just let Camelot do it instead.

FF3 should be good stuff though.
