"And now, with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth released on PC, Hamaguchi's team can finally put it behind them and work full-bore on the highly anticipated sequel—a sequel that not only promises to match Rebirth's scope, but surpass it entirely, just as Rebirth one-upped Remake."

"Our development team is in full force," said Hamaguchi, "and you will be able to freely travel around the world map on the Highwind [airship] in the third title of the trilogy. Thank you for your patience, and please look forward to the next installment."

One of my wishes and forethoughts is becaming a reality for the upcoming sequel. Happy to hear that.

Lol, many of the debbie downers said they would scale the final entry back vs part 2 because Rebirth's PS5 sales didn't set the world on fire, likely around 3.5-4mil atm. But I knew they wouldn't.

If the final game is even better than Rebirth than it will drive sales into the entire trilogy, so it was always obviously they are going all in on it once more to give it an epic conclusion.

Rebirth is a JRPG through and through and one of the most ambitious modern JRPGs so far in terms of scope, content, variety and overall presentation (you'll get some complaints about some dodgy textures but it's CGI like across a lot of the game, combat, cutscenes, art direction...) in my opinion.

Both critical and user reception is higher than FF16 and anecdotally you'll see more positivty for it. I liked XVI despite it's flaws but loved Rebirth and thought they went all out with it leaving me very hyped for the final entry. I hope they use it as a general blueprint for the series going forward over XVI.
Is it worth it to purchase both games? Is Remake is good enough? That was initially my plan but I didn't expect that the game would release so fast, I was expecting Fall 2025 considering how long it took for FFXVI. I won't have the time to play through Remake until Rebirth is launched, I'm still on Refantazio (3rd city) and we'll get a new puppy tomorrow so I think my gaming time will be an all time low for a few weeks. I could wait a bit longer to be closer to the last one.

He is 100% right that it diminishes the value of the console. He also said it is Sony's problem not his...so I'm not sure why you'd suggest he needs consoling.

There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever I would own a PS5 by now if they hadn't started spamming games on PC. I'm not salty about it, in fact it saved me having to buy a whole game console, thanks Sony. Again, their problem not mine.

You may be projecting a tiny bit.

Yes, its absolutely worth it and I would say essential to do both. Remake is also like 1/2 if not smaller vs Rebirth.

Also, FFXVI kind of sucks. ;)

They've already invested too much into FF7-2. They going all the way.

Sony can't do anything to stop 3rd party games releasing on Steam. That ship has sailed.

That ship never even docked at port. True they can't prevent third party games; they can only finance long exclusivity periods for titles that were once synonymous with Playstation, while spamming their own.

The only reason VII Remake took so long to make it's way onto Steam was that it was initially tied into a 12 month exclusivity contract with Sony, then a further 6 months were added when Intergrade was released on the PS5. Once that was done, it immediately released on Epic in December 2021, and then 6 months later, it released on Steam.

So, outside of the 18 months exclusivity, Sony had no control over which PC platform it released on, but staggering it's release on Epic and then Steam almost 2 years after the initial release really didn't help it's sales or it's momentum.

It would appear Square Enix are learning some harsh lessons.

If they can get out of any contract with Sony for Part 3, i would do it now to ensure Part 3 launches on as many platforms as possible on D1. In the meantime, get Remake and Rebirth on Switch 2 and Xbox between now and 2027, ready for a D1 release on those platforms as well.

It runs like dogshit on ps5, no way will it be decent on steam deck.
What are you talking about?

It doesn't run "like dog shit" on base PS5. It's blurry in performance mode with a pretty solid 60fps and fidelity mode is a solid 30fps. On PS5 Pro it looks and runs amazing.

Have you even played this on PS5?

Nope, and I’m not planning to play it on PC either because I didn’t care for the first remake. “Blurry in performance mode” might be fine for you, but that’s not a well running game to me. That also tells me this isn’t gonna run well on steam deck. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

I mean I was gonna buy it anyways. I should probably buy it if it's 30% off. I HATE pre-ordering games though.

Currently the top single-player game that isn't free to play. No doubt the price for the game or the bundle is attracting plenty of buyers.

Usually when some says "it runs like dog shit" they're referring to the frame rate.

So you made a thread for a game you don't like and have no intention of playing? Makes total sense.

You’re saving money but are you okay with playing everything late?

That’s what it’s about now. Same as Xbox/PC and Indiana Jones and Stalker 2 etc and delayed PS5 ports. Play day 1 or play later, what will it be? Your choice.

I think most enthusiasts will make the required purchase to not have to deal with FOMO or be salty over games they would otherwise just be excited about.

In this particular case the PC version fits me perfectly though. I haven’t finished Remake yet and already play that on PC with mods so definitely choosing the PC version here now. But Rebirth comes 11 months late. It’s a fairly short delay. TLOU2 comes 5 years late. And still no news about Demon’s Souls and GT7.

I can't find the article because it wasn't mentioned in the title, but rather shoehorned in a 'blink and you'll miss it' sentence. Hopefully it was the journalist making a hypothesis and not SE.

EDIT: Found it!!

Given Rebirth was only a 3 month timed exclusive they probably could have released the PC version in May, but I guess they didn't have the port ready.

Perhaps with the final entry you'll see them maximise the shorter exclusive window (assuming it's a thing) and it will release as close as possible to the PS5/PS6 release.

Went ahead and got the twin pack from GMG. Even tho I already had remake on Epic, the total was only 55usd, and I wanted a steam key for it anyways.

Great! Now 50k people in total can buy it.
If this is in response to the sales of FF16 on PC then my response to that is: PC players had over a year to see that FF16 was a bad game and not worth their time, so they didn't buy it. On the other hand, FF7Rebirth is a fantastic game and should be reflected accordingly in regards to PC sales.
