FF7 Rebirth launching for PC 1/23/25

If this is in response to the sales of FF16 on PC then my response to that is: PC players had over a year to see that FF16 was a bad game and not worth their time, so they didn't buy it. On the other hand, FF7Rebirth is a fantastic game and should be reflected accordingly in regards to PC sales.

We'll have to wait and see, but there's a few differences already.

FFXVI took 15 months between the PS5 and PC releases, to not a lot of fanfare during the summer, and then released alongside God of War : Ragnarok. If I remember, Warhammer 40k and Black Myth were both still popping off on PC in terms of CCU's around that time as well, so it had a bit of competition. Not to mention there were issues with the port when the demo and full game released.

Rebirth's PC announcement was made at a major gaming event and was featured prominently throughout as it was nominated in a number of cats, so has already got a head start in that regard with the additional PR. It's also less than a year since the PS5 launch, and when it launches, I don't think it'll have any major new releases to contend with until Spiderman 2 which launches a week later, and then Kingdom Come Deliverance and Avowed launch on the 4th February.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the PC port of Rebirth and the lack of a demo. Remake wasn't great on launch, but I'm hoping the team behind the port have learned some lessons from that and applied them to Rebirth.

Given Rebirth was only a 3 month timed exclusive they probably could have released the PC version in May, but I guess they didn't have the port ready.

Perhaps with the final entry you'll see them maximise the shorter exclusive window (assuming it's a thing) and it will release as close as possible to the PS5/PS6 release.
I can see that. 3-6 months before Part 3 hits PC after it hits PS5 (Pro).

I tried the demo and didn’t like it and then heard people say that the demo was great, so just not for me.
But in general, late releases long after the release hype is gone are always selling badly.

Just want to say hope all of you that didn’t get a chance to play on PS5 will enjoy this game on PC. Please revive the OT and post in there, enjoy people’s posts and reactions. It’s a wonderful game and no matter how you end up feeling about it, it’s nice to finally have a relevant and mostly beloved modern FF game.

There's no save transfer or anything right?

So is can just buy this and enjoy it without feeling fomo from my ps save of the original.

This will be really nice on PC, just like Pro.

I'm currently playing it on a base Ps5 and really enjoying it, it's just a shame how awfully blurry it looks in performance mode. But I can't get myself to enjoy it in 30fps, the combat is my favorite part and it just feels so much better at 60fps.

My point was the frame rate is consistent. Saying something runs like dogshit usually means the frame rates drops and fluctuates like crazy. I'm not sure why people are acting like this isn't what it is. Let's stop pretending here.
No. 30fps always were always shit, consistent or not. Running with crap IQ is also running like shit.

I guess pretty much everything on Steam Deck runs like dog shit then.

I just want to quickly say how much I hate Square Enix Management. There's little to no excitement in playing this on release, since the whole world already knows it from PlayStation. I will play (pirate it, because fuck square) at some point because I loved FF7R too, but especially a story driven game like this is usually especially interesing around release, when everyone is talking about it. This is like releasing Oppenheimer a year later on HD-DVD and expecting me to open my wallet in joy.

I would've btw absolutely bought this if they released this (at least close to) Day1 on PC.
Yes, not buying the PC port because it was released a year later from the PS5 release will definitely send Square the message that you would buy the port if released day one alongside the PS release.

My only gripe with the PS5 Pro version was that the foliage pop-in was still present from the base PS5 version. If they sort that out and draw it in from much further out to make it much less noticeable, fix some of the pre-existing issues like random low-res textures appearing, some of the baked lighting in certain environments, and fix the audio mixing as the background music/OST is so loud that you can barely hear the dialogue at times, it has the potential to be a really good port.

It has DLSS and hopefully it'll also have Frame Gen as well.

Mate, by now you should've picked up on the very simple concept of thinking through something before you say/write it.

So, you think ME, ONE PERSON, buying it or not does make a difference to Square one way or the other?
Regardless of that though; If it actually did, it might as well have send the message that I am very fine with waiting and then paying full price anyway. So even if your idiotic assumption wouldn't be completely off, your argument would still fall short immediately.

Like honestly, for your sake I'm hoping you're just trolling.

I despise the tech, but I hope it has Denuvo, just to spite you.

See, that's the beauty. I don't need to play this on release now anyway, so I have absolutely no issue with waiting another year or so until the Denuvo license expires (or they put it on Sale for $10 or something)

Wondering if the improved lighting will make it to the ps5 version. Finished FF7 Remake last week and was about to start Rebirth. Now will wait and see how is the PC port.

I haven't played Remake or Rebirth. I have an RTX 3080 PC.

Should I play these on PS5 or PC?
I have a 4070ti super. Remake runs at native 4K 60 fps, but due to it being an unoptimized port, I need a mod to fix stuttering.

A 3080 will probably run the game equally well, but perhaps at 1440p. You need at least 12GB of vram to handle the stutters, mod or no mod, though.

No idea about Rebirth, but unlike Remake, it supports dlss, so that's a plus.

Just make sure to put fps at 120 in Remake's graphics settings in order to disable dynamic resolution - it is a source of heavy stutter.

Good info, thanks. Not even a DLSS mod for Remake from what I could find. That's surprising and disappointing. There was a mod to disable dynamic resolution, which could be useful.

Looks like this is going to sell a little bit better than expected on PC.

Glad to see it. This is a phenomenal game. Best output by Square in over a decade.

Dev is working hard to get the game Steam Deck verified. If the game will be able to run good enough on the Steam Deck then the game will be able to run good on the Switch 2. Inline with their multiplatform strategy. I wonder if it's going to be part of the Switch 2's Launch titles...

Preordered for 48 bucks, flat. Got that and ME Trilogy Legendary edition for another 5 bucks! I had not even intended to purchase another game in 2024, boy did I get a random slap in the proverbial face.

Seems to be doing decently well on Steam. Take out the Steam Deck and the F2P games, and it's #4 globally.

For context, FFXVI's announcement in August had it at #40 on Steam.
That's so good to see. I really want this game to get at least a 60-70K concurrent player count in its first week on Steam.

Remake's player count peak on Steam was 13K - which makes sense because A) a lot more people bought Remake on their PS4 than Rebirth on their PS5, B) Remake hit EGS first so Steam lost some sales over there as well, and C) was released almost two years after it hit consoles and the hype had severely died out.

Rebirth is launching with a stronger PC player base, in less than a year than hitting PS5, with less purchases on consoles (probably more people holding out for a port this time) and a cheaper starting price, compared to Remake.

It's a good start, at least. It had to either launch in January or in May/June 2025 imo, to not to get bogged down with other big AAA releases between those dates.

I just hope that in order to get it out on sale, they haven't rushed the port and learned some lessons from their port of Remake.

If Rebirth outsells or has a higher CCU than Remake on Steam, that just proves that the FF userbase has moved from Sony to PC (if you look at the FFXIV numbers clearly there's an argument). Given that on PS5 Remake >>>>> Rebirth, if Steam actually shows Rebirth > Remake, SE should send all the FFs there first!

SE should really consider doing the next FF as a Steam exclusive to see what happens. It's about the only thing they haven't tried.

That said, I think Rebirth will bomb on Steam just like it did on PS5, but we'll see, I wouldn't mind to be wrong!

seems like a color grading change, surely will come to ps5 too.
Seems like a lighting change. The shadows on Cloud’s arm are missing on the PS5. The textures in the background are also higher res and different. Looks like steel pipes on PS5 but granite on PC? Strange alteration.
