FFXV's future updates adjust chapters, add cutscenes, add playable characters, more

Are you fucking serious

Stop playing right now people

Do not get up to that chapter until the patch hits

I repeat

DO NOT PLAY THE WORST CHAPTER IN FF HISTORY UNTIL IT'S FIXED
Why ?
So you can act as if it's still a great series or something ?
Don't worry, it's already too late for that.

GAF: "Man, we sure do wish Tabata would flesh out characters like Ravus a bit more"

Tabata: "You know what, no problem. We understand your criticism. We'll do that."

GAF: "Lol Mass Effect 3 all over again. Can't believe they're doing this."

I personally thoroughly loved the game, and don't feel like additional scenes are necessary. But SE obviously listened to player feedback and decided to acquiesce to that feedback, something a lot of devs would NEVER do. Hell, they turned XIV from a disaster into something great when most other companies would have let it die. Its not like they're fundamentally changing the entire story; they're adding a scene to one chapter. The rest is postgame and online stuff.

People have the right to criticize whatever they want, but shitting all over the team that obviously listened to some of you is beyond the pale.

The point is, they should've done it on release. We already completed the story, all those plotholes already ruined the experience... Adding crap on top now will not rewrite that initial impression, because initial impression is forever. It's unfixable. It's what you will remember about the game forever and ever even if play 50 different improved versions.

Lmao this is hilarious. They actually launched an incomplete game (already knew it was incomplete because of the DLC) and decided to see if they could get away with it.

How I feel exactly.

No it's simple. I wish they had done those things. You don't get to go back and fix it once it's done and people already paid for it and spent their time playing it
I keep hearing the "it's simple" argument. It basically boils down to people being burned by their reception of the initial game and not wanting to hear anything else on the matter.

It reminds me of a couple having an argument. Girl is all excited to go to date and get a nice ring. The date is alright, but there's no ring. Guy realizes she's upset and comes back later with the ring (with a few extra jewels on it) and she's like "I can't believe you have the audacity to do this" and breaks up with him.

Your statement implies the game is broken. It isn't. You didn't like something, and SE is offering to change it to satisfy you.

For Christ's sake, they're adding an additional scene. Nothing is busted. Get over yourself.

It doesn't satisfy me. When it comes to the story do it day one or not at all. If they said this before release would they have sold as many copies? No of course not, because people would've waiting until they finished adding things. It's insulting to the people who paid to buy it day one and already put time into it. If thy story isn't good they missed their chance to fix that when they charged full price for the game and released it

Stop with this twisty bullshit.

We wish the game had fleshed out characters and story a bit more, but it's too late because we already beat it.

The damage is done.

Did you said something? Sorry, I'm having some much fun pressing a button and cool stuff happening on my screen. Huh? No, I'm no playing DA2, you silly. ;)

Have you ever played a Final Fantasy before? Pretty sure that was an event fight. Everything had to be crazy structured and I doubt Noctis' newfound power would have been all that impressive if he fell in the water and drowned.

The amount of salt in this thread is unreal.

These analogies don't even approach making any sense

After thinking about this news more, I'm going to keep soldiering on with my current play-through. I'm in chapter 5 now, might as well see it through. I replay FFs often, this probably won't be an exception, so I'll be able to check out these changes at some point.

Honestly, I like the game so much as it is, warts and all, that hopefully whatever they can adjust will only make it greater. Totally sucks for people who have already played through it though, I can understand the frustration there.

I'm barely into chapter 2 but this sounds like instead of delaying a game they pushed it out, let people play it for a week then announced they are going to make the changes they wanted to delay the game for as dlc

The game is getting 8s and 9s, you shouldnt put to much stock into these drive by shit posts acting like the game is a mess or unfinished.

First off, the game is getting 7s, 8s, and 9s; not a bad game by any means, but there are definitely flaws that people are right to call the game out on. For example, I mean... I love Xenogears but I would not for a single second call that game complete given how Disc 2 turned out.

And given that SE came out in literally a week of the game's release and said "wait, wait, we're going to do stuff to improve the dreaded Chapter 13! And we're going to add story stuff and actually explain what happened to villains like Ravus! And we're going to explain some offscreen stuff, we swear!
Like Gladio going solo for no discernible reason
." A lot of this shit isn't even bonus material, but material needed to add basic context to events in the game. If that is not an indication that the game is not finished or complete, I don't know what is.

Another meaning for NEW game+, amiright?

I guess I will put this game away until some of these patches drop, and finish bloodborne, ratchet ps4, and dragon quest heros...

Literally everything you just said is an opinion, and therefore subjective. If you didn't like it, that's your right. But the game wasn't broken. Period. Claiming to be "insulted" by this is the peak of hyperbole. They shipped the story they wanted to tell. You didn't like it. SE is trying to cater to you.

Apparently they didn't ship the story they wanted to tell though. If they wanted to cater to me they should've done that before taking my money

I think the best way to handle this is to have a sort of gallery/cutscene viewer like Dissidia and some of the KH games have (no idea if it already has one), and put the new scenes in there as well as in the main game for people who don't have time to replay the full game from scratch or in NG+ just to see a few added cutscenes.

Really enjoying this game, and happy to hear they're working to make it even better. Crazy how cynical the gaming (or just GAF) community must be for this to be controversial.

I haven't got around to starting my copy yet. Seems like I should be in no rush to do so. I'll get around to it at some point and give them some time to get the patches out.

Delayed the game? People got pissed
Delay the game again? People would be fuming (already had "boycotters")
Try to fix the game? Too fucking late! Tabata is the worst!

You can't win

The disconnect here is that you seem to be looking at this as SE being completely satisfied with the game they were trying to make and now, they're trying to bend over for the fans. A whole lot of other people see this as SE having released this game far too early without crucial elements being finished.

I'm not sure what position is correct but it doesn't invalidate the way people feel.

Played through the game, done most of the postgame content, playtime of roughly 90 hours.... would rate the game a solid 8.5/10

This game had the potential to hit it off big and be one of the if not the best FF for me.

Will definitely do another playthrough when it gets polished up, I don't like how they went about it but this is the result of years of development hell.

The game has no reason to even be this good already after how mismanaged this development must have been

"The damage is done"

Lol.

You can laugh, but I think he's right. There are many people that will have played the game and quit half-way through or as soon as they beat the story mode and have no intention of going back to it. The point is, any additional changes they make to a game like this is pointless in these scenarios, right? So the damage has already been done.

I know, and I agree that it's great when a developer wants to improve a game post-launch, and not just let it die out, but in a single player experience like Final Fantasy XV, its a very dangerous thing to do.

What if this trend of adding or "fixing" the game gets worse in later years? What if there will come a point when a single player game is released and is complete trash but the developers are cool with it because they slap a "roadmap" or dlc and patches to actually make it in the game it should have been at launch. Heck it has already been happening with games these days, and it sucks so bad (look at the Street Fighter V for a more recent example). This is not the road a single player Final Fantasy game should go down, in my opinion.

Woah these updates sound awesome. Will get this when I can play as a female character. Hopefully the avatar part comes true

Then people will see that the game is not very good and won't buy it, and it will sell poorly as a result and give developers/publishers a reason not to want to do that again. These kinds of 'doomsday' scenarios are so far-fetched and silly.

What the hell lmao. I wonder how long they would have had to delay the game to implement everything up to those "long term goals". Or if they were planning on making these additions before criticisms came in.

They should honestly patch in most of the non-Nyx scenes from Kingsglaive. Baffling how that stuff isn't in the game given how essential it is to the story, world, and characters.

They were adjusting scenes even the day before release. When I played the ending there is a scene at the end that plays out differently than what people would have seen now. I got more shafted by playing the game before its release date but I'm still open to improvements.

It's almost as if different people have different opinions!

Yeah but this is some hyperbole junk running this thread. Instead of any iota of eagerness or remote happiness about the game getting fixes, folks are just call it a wasted effort to an already irredeemable game that robbed people of their hard-earned dollars.

Feedback is good, and it's great we live in a generation that can patch this stuff in without needing a "director's cut" or whatever.

"Fantasy based on Feedback" is...actually a good thing, no?
