Fifa 13 - uses Wii U friendslist; better pitch and crowd; missing a few features

Only 1 more butter_stick you can do it!
And then this thread will have more posts about how WiiU sucks and isn't what you want it to be more than anything in Fifa13.

I'm just talking to people. If you're upset by it, I'm sorry. I'll stop posting in this thread if you're "down" because of it.

So uh, if Dead Rising 1 and 2 can have shitloads of zombies and fairly complex environments, how come a football game has to resort to 2d cutouts when it comes to the crowd?

My understanding is because for each game you have a finite amount of processing power.

You may get 100s of zombies but their AI must be pretty simple and most of them are juste waiting to be activated in the background.

In FIFA you get a super complex positioning, tactics and a crap load of animation going on.

So they want to keep as much processing power for the main game and not on the crowds.

I have absolutely ZERO problem with you posting on this thread or anywhere else.
I, however, have a problem with people not even speaking about the game this thread is about.
I mean we get what your opinion on WiiU is, we'll have to wait launch to see if you were right or not, let's leave it at that ;)

Wii U sucks right now. I won't get banned for saying that. When it has a Mario Galaxy it will not suck.

Fact is I got dragged in to this thread by some bro quoting me from another thread. I'm the one being targeted here. The only agenda is an anti butter_stick one.

This may shock you, but the WiiU isn't actually out yet. We don't even have a launch date or a price.

Conversation flows, man. Topics come up, new points are made, this isn't a dictatorship. I'm sorry i disappointed you.

The problem for me is that his point is easy to understand and doesn't really do much for conversation here. "Cool, you think WiiU sucks and has bad graphics." There's just nowhere to go after that.

I think most people would be cool with accepting his opinion and moving on. Yet some of these folks pop in over and over again stating their opinion like people are supposed to just accept it and close the thread I guess. It's like when a little kid really has to tell you something and then it turns out to be a really simple observation of the world, but it's a little kid so it's cute. It's not cute
here.

"Oh well guys, Stick Butter says WiiU sucks. Let's pack it up and close this thing down."

ON TOPIC:

I've had trouble getting into Soccer games, do you think using the Gamepad will be helpful for newer players? The guy at the presentation said it would make things easier and then showed a really complex series of menus and maps.

Why do all Wii U threads seem to go straight to the dumps?

4 Pages of discussing Wii U's FIFA 13 version put my hopes up

Realizing its maybe 4 posts per page max discussing FIFA and the rest is trolling garbage/arguments/discussing stupid things (must you mock a guy who has no idea 4 shadows are common to soccer stadiums? that could have been solved by simply answering his questions straight forward)

On TOPIC:

Anyone know what exactly we'll be able to do real time with the pad? How will that enhance 13 over the traditional input methods?

Perhaps there's been too much threads that badmouths Sony...that's why there can't be decently Nintendo based threads...ok i'm just messing around....carry on lol

Did you read my previous posts? I want a Wii U. I don't see how, in any of my posts, i'm taking shots at the Wii U. Seriously.

Its common with some soccer stadiums, since the floodlight placement gives it that appearance. It can happen with other sports venues as well

I'm sorry but I saw no new point made at all. I don't even follow WiiU news that much.
Heck appart from ZombieU I don't think there's anything I want on it (nsmb excepted).
The spec dick waving though, I found it boring for the last 5 years, I still find it boring considering how low the specs discussed are in general.

Soccer games are never that hard to use, last I checked there was a Fifa way and a PES way of playing them but the menu stuffs is never that extensively used unless at a higher level of play.
So you shouldn't worry about that.

It's just so hypocritical to say you can't talk about Wii U hardware in a thread about a launch title. PS4 launch title threads will focus 99% on the graphics. And rightly so.

That will still bore me to death.
It's not even the most important part of the games anyway.

I don't really understand the rules of soccer well, but I think the games look fun to play. Most games have been terrible at explaining the rules to people who are unfamiliar. I have tired every few years and it just doesn't work well. It's also my fault for not doing research and getting more information about the rules.

I think the problem is that I want a video game to get me into soccer and the games are made for people who are already soccer fans.

I'm not sure what he wants at this point. He thinks the graphics suck, we know that. End of the line.

No it isn't. There's no thread about the 360 version of FIFA. The Wii U version has a thread because it's representing unreleased hardware. That's the talking point. Not the game.

So this Wiiu FIFA thread isn't actually about the WiiU version of FIFA? Whoa, that's some Matrix stuff right there.

Isn't there a WiiU megathread or something? That should be the place to discuss the WiiU specs, no?

The problem is the game's market is mostly(or exclusively) Europe and well....we play soccer since we're old enough to walk so...
I don't think they feel the need to explain the rules at all, I think you can disable offside then the version of football you get is fairly easy to understand.
The WII PES game were not that incompetent in explaining the rules I think but don't quote me on that.

So since this is the only thread for the next FIFA we shouldn't talk about FIFA but something else entirely?
You're also saying that the community thread on FIFA really aren't about FIFA too?

It's even called the WiiU hardware debate thread!

Yeah I'm an nonathletic American, so the rules are lost on me. I don't even really know the rules of American football. I liked Mario Strikers, but that did a good bit of rule working and config for you. I also really liked that Sega soccer arcade game that was on GCN.

I'm open to trying the Wii version of PES. I've mainly tried the PS3 and 3DS (it was launch, so I know it was rushed and gimped) soccer games so I'll add the Wii to my gamefly queue.

You know what they say : Support your team ;)!

Mario Strikers is actually a good way to get a feel of what it is all about (attack vs defense)
The Wii version of PES will add the throw-ins and various rules that break the flows of the game, I don't remember if the config is always there.
As a rule try to get the latest version available it's always better (and the last wii version can be played like a regular twin stick or with the new fangled wiimote that gives it a rts vibe).
All I know is that the tutorial are there and they're that extensive that they actually bored me out of my mind :lol
Then I'd say follow the matches on tv or something and the rules should come naturally I think if the commentators are not complete shit...

I knew nothing about soccer until about a month ago. Now I am fairly familiar after watching the 2010 World Cup.

The rules seem rather simple. The only slightly confusing rule is offsides. This rarely comes up in video games, though.

172 posts and only a handful talk about the awesome use of the Gamepad for this game? Most of the posts are complaining how this doesn't look 'nextgen' Since when are graphics a top priority in a football game? lmao, goes to show that most people here have never played a football game in their lifetime

I hope not. Hopefully they'll be about the gameplay, since it's like, the most important part of the game and stuff.

And Wii U isn't much better than 360. Do you see?

I simply think that a multiplatform game (FIFA) cannot be compared in a generation gap sense as two ground up software titles on the Gamecube and Wii (TP and SS). However, I do understand where you are coming from, I just simply disagree with the Zelda statement. Now if it were say, a hypothetical Zelda game on 360 compared to a ground up Zelda game on Wii U it would be a much more baseline comparison for graphics quality and the such.

Either way this is probably off topic but I hope you see my point.

On topic: Even with the lack of features, I do believe this could be the platform of choice for FIFA with the gamepad controls. Of course it may be too early to judge, can't wait for some good hands on.

I agree. The problem apparently is because some folks aren't as enamored with the Wii U that it makes us anti Nintendo or something. This IS a thread about the Wii U's hardware. The fact that EA is using said hardware to supposedly improve on particular features OVER the competition PROVES its hardware related. It's ridiculous how so many are so bothered by folks actually staying on topic just because they disagree with the poster's view of Nintendo's hardware.

1) I'm glad you took Nintendo's mantra to heart
2) it's near impossible to accurately have a discussion about gameplay on unreleased video games
It's got nothing to do with Nintendo. In a game, gameplay is king. Graphics are nice, of course, but they're never going to be a main focus point to me. If they were I'd never be able to play NES games and the like anymore.

And it's quite easily possible to have a discussion about unreleased games. Things like videos, picture and previews allow this. Plus, it's FIFA. I know how it's going to basically play, the only problem is how the touch screen affects gameplay and any Wii U specific features.

The touchscreen will be good for multiplayer matches. It's so tedious playing online when someone pauses to change formation and such.

People aren't going to abandon their game to look down and tinker though, that's a ridiculous fallacy. They'll pause and then change. In all honesty, to anyone that actually plays Fifa regularly, that tactics screen is effectively redundant.

Graphics can impact gameplay. I don't know what's so hard to see about that. Sure "gameplay" is king but there's a reason most people can't play old N64 games but love the old NES games.

It would be quite easy to do it during goal kicks and the like. It'll help quicken the pace for a start.

I'm not saying they're not important. I just think that 99% of a launch game thread being about the graphics and the hardware is just silly.

Well, you could do it during breaks in play. Shit like throw ins and corners take long enough to press "4-3-3" or whatever on a controller.

It's certainly not a bad thing, and it's 10000x better than the control gimmicks I was worried about.

Yep. When there's a free kick/throw-in/goal kick you can just swipe the screen rather than having to crawl through the god-awful laggy menus.

Same. The most important thing for FIFA 13 on Wii U is that the game engine and most of the feature set retains parity with the PS3 and 360 versions.

I don't expect the implementation to be quite there right away with this years version, but long term the ability to play matches and manage the single player game on the Game Pad is an absolute killer app feature for me. I'm trying to wean myself away from Football Manager these days and that's the sort of thing that could make the Wii U version the version of the game for me.

I was hoping for a PES style drag to run system for other players. :( But apart from that, it's looking good.

Unfortunately we know that the game is not on-par with 13 with regard to some of the new mechanics. It's based more on 12.

It's missing a very small amount of AI mechanics. In my opinion, the gamepad enhancements more than make up for it.

Madden 13 on WiiU....I'm not so sure.

Fifa WiiU I'm definitely interested in.

Have you played Fifa? There is plenty of downtime during a game to press a button or swipe a tab on the controller.

How many games have actually faltered due to this idea that people looking down at a second screen is really diffucult?

But you can already make tactics changes on Xbox and PS3 without looking down at the controller.
