IMHO, the Xbox One is kind of underrated. I still have one for retro BC games, and for me, it was the only platform to play classic titles from Treasure like Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, and Guardian Heroes, or from Sega, like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gunvalkyrie, Otogi 1 and 2, Jet Set Radio Future, and so on. It was also the only platform where you could play Ninja Gaiden Black in 1080p / 60fps.

Besides these retro games, the Xbox One had great releases like Forza Horizon 2 and 3 — games that were very impactful for me back then and I still think they are excellent — Sunset Overdrive, Gears of War 1 Remastered, etc. And GamePass was good for a while. It was never a disaster, at least for me.

In this generation, I went full on PS5 but still keep my old Xbox One S for playing these classics, and it’s still a fantastic console for that. The Xbox Series S is reasonably priced, but it doesn’t seem worth the investment, and the Series X is expensive, and well, everyone knows what’s going on right now…

I’ll keep my Xbox One S for a good while; by the way, it’s a very well-built console, never gives me problems, and works like a charm. I’m just not a fan of the operating system’s aesthetics; I find it pretty bland and outdated.

I always loved Nintendo but I just couldn´t get into the Wii U (or even, the OG Wii)... Both were tacky and gimmicky for my tastes. So Xbox One on this, as well.

I got a great upgrade and meaningful leap, going from a PS3 to a One X in 2020 for a price too good to pass on. And then a 4k monitor a year later. SSX 3 looks amazing for a 20+ year old title. Almost surreal even. Mirrors Edge has HDR support along with the res bump and higher frames. Looks great for a 2000s game. Coming from a PS3, I might wait until PS6 to get another big leap.

Wii U was easily skippable. If that was your only console during 2013 to 2017, you were seriously missing out. If you had just an Xbox One and picked up a Nintendo Switch in 2017, you were golden.

I only really had a Wii U then and don't feel like I was seriously missing out.

Okay, I had a gaming laptop too, but I only really played Battlefield 1, Battlefield 3 and 4, and Sleeping Dogs on it.

Probably the Wii U. The Xbox One was better hardware, sure. But a console without exclusives to carry it doesn't do a whole lot for a lot of people. I bought an Xbox One at launch, played it for a few months, but eventually sold it as there were no exclusives that kept me there. I played everything on PC.

The Wii U wasn't great by any means, but for me, it was better because of the exclusives. I LOVED my 360, but the Xbox One era basically made me lose interest in owning a new Xbox console. Especially when I primarily play on PC and I can just play everything there. 🤷‍♂️

Xbox has far more 3rd party support and great first party games / exclusives. Wii U had very good first party games and indie games.

It's close but I go Xbox.

Xbox One was far better since you get access to a larger library of games, plus selected 360 titles. Wii U lacked severely in the software front and Nintendo's exclusives were lacking in that generation, the tablet controller is also more of a burden.

WiiU, no contest. Consensus seems to be WiiU for first party, Xbox One for everything else. But uh...

-you cold play everything else, everywhere else
-One had few true exclusives, and what little it did have at launch, they failed at (MCC)
-WiiU has the forced gamepad, but it was at least occasionally novel and useful, especially with so many kids in my family. We actually got big mileage out of NintendoLand, and the screencasting. Xbox One includes forced hardware as well, that I am not willing to purchase whatsoever and didn't want required.

Basically Xbox gave me broken first party halo, and HD games I could just play on PC, or PS4 (running better), so who cares. WiiU supplied HD Nintendo games for the first time which is basically a day one hyper emergency.
