I should actually post in these threads more often considering how many fighting games I play.

I am in a bind. Before I state why though I might as well preface this by saying do not recommend me to play on fightstick. I have one and I do like it but, I am much better on pad.

Here is the deal. For years I used D-pad for fighting games, it works and is reliable but, in recent months I have been trying my hand at the analog stick and I found out that motions are easier for me on analog stick and hell even parrying in Street Fighter 3 I can do just as well as I could on D-pad. The problem I have though is with movement, probably has to do with the dead zone (I use an XB1 pad). Forward and back dashes are always risky for me as I might end up jumping forwards or backwards instead. In short how do I deal with movement, in 2D fighters, on a analog stick if I want to keep using it? I know I probably just have to get used to it but, anyone got any tips?

If I just can't Ill go back to d-pad though.

Got a friend who uses the d-pad and the analog stick together. Uses the analog while doing motions and movement with the pad. Try a combination of both. Don't know if it will work tho since he uses it cos his thumb is fucked and has to play like that.

Change your pad. What do you usually use when you are playing on pad? When I was playing on pad I used a DS3 and DS4 and realized how much I hated it. I bought a Hori FC4 and thinking of sticking with it even now I can afford a stick. Motions are super easy on the FC 4 vs the dpad in the DS3. I don't use the 360 pad for fighters so I can't compare them, but II know that dpad is even worse than the DS3, so I can't imagine it being better for fighters.
Edit: I see you are using a XB1 pad. Is it for PC?

You might want to wait for the Madcatz SFV pad then, since it has analog and dpad together.

xb1 d-pad is somthing. Felt like it's in a hole when playing KI.
The d-pad + analog combo works better if the analog is placed lower like with ps controllers probably.

I used to do that back when I had my 360 and played vanilla SF4. Would switch to stick when playing someone like Gief. Can't really do that anymore, throws me off now lol.

Thing is the problem persists no matter what pad I use back when I had my dualshock 3 it was the same. I also have one of those SFxT Madcatz pads that are good too but, I ended up liking the XB1 d-pad more. That said though I might have to play on it some more.

I think my best bet might be just practicing the inputs some more. I hit them right 9/10 times but when I miss it bugs me.

My thoughts, exactly. What on God's Green Earth happened to my thread?

It's a slow day and you have some unique people on gaf. And now you know when to time these threads. When I saw pornstars I was out. I expected that commentary on Laura though. Characters from Brasil better match one stereo type or you get this.

Best way I can see that train wreck of a thread is that a lot of people on gaf really have not gone outside their regions very much.

My friend took a game off of ZeRo but lost the set. ZeRo's next set was on stream and a Sonic took him out. ZeRo being sent to losers this early is new. Unfortunately this is phase 2 of pools so my friend's going to have a hard time making it out now.

yikes

thoske buttons are so expensive, WTF?

Waifu Arakune isn't going to pay for itself!

It's stupid how crazy some ArcSys fans are for merchandise. ArcSys is really strict with BlazBlue and Guilty Gear merchandise so there's very few official licensed products.

That drives the demand through the roof and for the enthusiast crowd, it's worth the ¥900 + tax.

Ibuki is also the Street Fighter button that ran out fastest and hasn't been in stock for over a year...

So yeah those aren't even all the buttons I got, I'm waiting on a new set of Guilty Gear Xrd buttons because I'm a loser.

The money ArcSys makes off these licensed Sanwa buttons can probably pay for a brand new stick every 15-16 buttons sold...

so many lives lost to a roster discussion. Man who even cares? 3S is everyone's favorite SF and it has Twelve and Necro and Ibuki

Nice going man.
Who you play?

Dvorah. Googled some stuff beforehand and had a couple matches to practice. Those people did not like blocking much, ho ho.

Best part was when some tough guy came up after it started and was all "Aw man I love MK, been in there from the start, i play every day. Can I at least play the winner of this?" and then i beat him too. Or when one of the players lost to a 10yo doing nothing but tick throws.

Why did they make SF4 Ibuki so thirsty for guys? D:

I know she still liked them in 3, but I miss some of the grace she had in those win poses lol

A shame when most people saying fighting games they mean just 1. :p I'm specifically calling out the people who hate sf4 yet play only it because people are playing. That is like them feeling the wave of sound as it crashes down, they can't turn away people will make them want to stay.

Anybody get a player that makes you go, "I don't know who this guy is, where he's come from but he's good! I never even touched him, now that's one bad dude! I'm bad, but I ain't that bad!" And when you do, do you fold and go? That happens to me a great many times and I just take a break. No chance in hell I'm beating that guy.

i only play one game on a competitive level because I don't really have the time to get good at multiple games and I'd rather be great at 1 than decent at 2 or competent at 4. there are lots of fighting games that i think are really cool (KoF, Soul Calibur, Tekken, UNIEL) but they're just training mode games for me. I don't have room for them.

2 VF tournaments in a 3 week span? woo

Atleast you try them most people don't even do that. I think too often some people are looking at spreading themselves thin on some games as looking at it the wrong way, I would think playing a variety allows you to adapt better if you can slide from one game to the next. I think the connections in your brain playing many games can be a great benefit.

Main game is Tekken but bought and tried every other one for a long while now.
Usually doesn't get further than local friend playing and training mode tho.
