What fighting games do you currently play, what are your all time favourites and why?
I only really play USF4 now, mostly because it is my favourite fighting game and mostly because my PS3 died so I can't play any anime (I really enjoyed BBCP while I could play it).
While I'm partial to SF2 and all the associated holiday arcade memories, I'll be boring and say SF4 is my favourite fighting game of all time. While purists might balk at that, I essentially think this is because it was my first "online" fighting game and online was a real game changer for me.
While you could easily argue there are "better" fighting games, SF4 is the game that drew me back and made me want to learn just so I could fight against the seemingly endless line of challenges on PSN (and later PC).

To combine the answer, I don't like playing any fighting game with "team" or assist mechanics. TTT2, MVC3, Skullgirls or KOF (to some extent) all lack appeal to me because I enjoy the purity of one character, one set of moves and your best play against the other player. While I can certainly see the appeal for some and the dynamic Marvel style is fair enough, I see no need for a game like Tekken or Sfxt to dilute the gameplay to fit in more character choices.
Hopefully this trend is coming to an end.
What got you into fighting games? Are there any other genre of games you play?Hopefully this trend is coming to an end.
Like many people, it was long days spent in an arcade either playing or watching other people play. I rarely had money growing up, so it was generally a case of standing by the machines all day hoping somebody would come in that I could watch.
Looking back now, the guy running the place probably thought I was a bit strange.
At this time the NES and SMS came out and gaming really started to take off. I'll play most genres today, if done well, but I tend to avoid shooters because they don't hold my attention.

I always liked Vega (Claw if you will). Put simply, he has a big claw on his hand and young Toddhunter thought that was pretty damn cool. Other than that, I tend not to think about it too much and will just play whoever is fun. Even after years of watching it, I still don't know who half the cast of MVC3 is supposed to be.
Describe your style of play, and how do you play (local, online, etc.).
I'll pretty much play online. Unfortunately Australia is a very big country, but the population is very small and spread out across a wide area (and timezones). This makes meeting up with somebody in person very difficult but can also be challenging for online play.
Remember how SF4 was my favourite game? Well this is in no small part to actually being able to play it online. Marvel? I couldn't get a game after a month or so. Anything anime? You might find one or two regulars but then it is trying to connect to Asian countries. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't.
Hopefully I'll make it to Shadowloo this year, but it is still a long flight and they always put it on a busy weekend for some reason.
My style? I'd call it "Momentum based". I like to sit back and work out what my opponent is doing and then start to go in and "do my thing". This works extremely well in BBCP where you can score a knockdown and then start up with all kinds of bullshit.

I feel I'm pretty good at reading opponents and predicting what they are going to do. This puts me in a good place to react or anticipate their moves and come out on top in the exchange (and then make them guess wrong again). The problem with this is I really struggle when my opponent does nothing and just turtles me out. I'll grow impatient quickly and start making mistakes, as I try to open up somebody without the real skills to do so.
I'm also a "jack of all trades" in pretty much every game I play. For example I feel I can play everybody in SF4 to a pretty good level, but nobody at a high level. Basically I just get bored sticking with one main and would rather learn the whole cast. Because of this, I can be pretty limited in how good I get.
But on the plus side I'm not "guy who plays only Ryu for five years straight" so I'm ok with my choices.

Besides beating some Australian players nobody has ever heard of, there really isn't anything of note. The dream is to make it to EVO "one day" but that is a long, long, way away.
What do you want from future fighting games?
I just want 1v1. Tekken 7 looks like it is going down this path so I'm pretty hyped for that.
Anything else? I'm sure it'll work out somehow. As long as there isn't some terrible F2P model on top... and there probably will be, I'm sure I'll be buying whatever comes out and giving it a go.

Have you done it yet? You should do it.
