Yeah KI wasn't a complete enough package. The potential's there, but I'm not sure people want to wait until months after the fact to have all the content. Also, the gameplay's a bit too "messy" to have long term viability (and not the good kind of messy that Marvel is).

I agree with the Kokonoe ban being too early.

If people want more (content) added to the product (game) that they're supporting the 'wait' is meaningless. Ask current gen early adopters.

Messy? What do you mean?

i blame white people tho

lmao

I look at it this way. If a heap of people rock up to CEO playing Kokonoe how bad is that really? They still took the time to play BBCP and learn Kokonoe and actually showed up.

Then, when a Kokonoe appears on stream? People will probably boo and want them to lose. When somebody playing some other character bodies some half assed Kokonoe players...which will happen... everybody will cheer and get hype.

The alternative is we ban her, people stop playing because they are salty/not getting free wins or whatever and we end up with an 8 man bracket finishing at 8am with two Noels duking it out in GF.

Lets face it, if it wasn't for Kokonoe who would even be caring or talking about BBCP today? Unless you randomly posted something like "BBCP is awesome lol" then I would suggest nobody.
Or the obnoxious bullshit that is Kokonoe pushes away the few players that actually spent the extra dough to import the game and they tell their friends to not buy it upon American release because of the broken character.

This was the logic that Ono used to justify Yun in Vanilla AE.

Went throughvthe VF5 dojo up to the point they wanted me to sidestep and then input F, F + G to stop an unavoidable attack. Is this something I need to care or worry about for a while? Unlike the other guard tutorials it seems wicked situational.

It was and what do you know, you can go on youtube and watch videos of Justin Wong learning Kokonoe. If he rocked up to SCR with a broke-ass Kokonoe and won would that be good or bad for the game?

I'd suggest it would be good.

In the long term? Ok there may be an issue and that is when you act when it just gets too old. The thing is I don't see a long term for BBCP, so why risk killing off now the only interesting thing there is?

I think the US anime community is actually being pretty smart here. They know it only takes a few months of Blazblue play appearing un-hype to kill the game off completely. :lol

I otherwise think the ban is premature, though.

I don't have any real strong opinion on the issue but this is probably the worst argument I've seen either way so far

God help us when rulesets start being made based on what the fucking stream finds entertaining

If KDZ and MF Slayer rocked up to Evo with a four-week and one-week old Superman, respectively, and made top 8, would that be good or bad for the game? Turns out, not great.

I have talked to several people whose enthusiasm for the game has been negatively affected when Kokonoe dropped. And it does appear that most of the people ridiculing the anime community for this decision don't actually play the game (or play Kokonoe). I even wonder if you can argue that Arksys didn't program her right, much like how NRS programmed Freddy Krueger initially, and he was banned for several months until the patch arrived that fixed him (and he's still a top tier character in that game post-patch). However, I do feel that this ban will have larger consequences in the long term, beyond the game's life span. Heck, even the Smash community never fully implemented their plans to ban Metaknight in Brawl. For the Blazblue community to go all in with a Kokonoe ban, they're either geniuses or idiots.

And how are you not suggesting the same thing? The only way Kokonoe is an issue is during the end of tournaments where people fear Kokonoe mirrors. Banning her does not erase her from existence.

That maybe true, but is it really just because of one character or is the natural BB cycle of being too hard to keep up with? I think you always have to be careful when deciding between reasons and excuses.

i wouldn't be sad to see kokonoe go, she's obnoxious and has major issues that make her heavily unbalanced.

but until there's a universal ban it doesn't mean shit. she's going to be banned at some events but not others. i'm guessing most local communities won't ban her because they'll want to train for larger events where she is allowed.

Perma'd or regular?

A bit off-topic, but I wanted to say goodbye to everyone here.
I leave to do my army service in a few hours and internet access will be limited.
These threads were pretty much the only ones I semi-consistently posted on neogaf and posts by members here are what led me to the forum in the first place.

I hope the rest of 2014 is filled with good news for fighting games and even better events.
And less shitty reboots of video game series nobody wanted.

Have fun you all.

stay safe.

Yea I saw the viewtifuljc ban. Hope it's not perm. But yea I wouldn't mind if kokonoe got banned. I mean you can try and let it rock but apex already showed a kokonoe mirror in grand finals

I see him using that word all the time and I'm thinking to myself it's just a matter of time. Between the dozens of threads and thousands of posts a day, even with the amount of mods we have they aren't going to see everything but that doesn't mean they won't eventually.

Rayray would probably be banned posting his first sentence. LOL.

lol this street fighter rock opera they linked on eventhubs is actually pretty decent so far

I don't know, I've only listened to the first two songs so far, but it's not really grabbing me.

Edit: Ok, I'm enjoying this third song a bit more than the first two, hopefully this upward trend continues

I think it impacts character choice for alot of people.

If I had to pick a side I'd be for the ban because I don't like what these trial periods do to the game. Alot of people play her either to win or to prove shes dumb and then at the end of the trial you either ban her and have people waste all that practice or you keep her and have legions of the same character in the playerbase. A character most people think is dumb.

An early ban prevents both. People just practice with whatever character they wanted and the game develops in a more natural way.

It's not a perm

it's not amazing but I'm enjoying. listening to the first album so far. very simple stuff but I just have it one while playing dota

My opinion on banning characters from tournaments is just to leave them in for a while and see if they actually dominate first. Usually that's fine because I think competition gets serious once a game's been out for a while, there's not too much at stake early on.

Bish' GAF hood pass is rarer than Skullgirls at tournaments.

well viola is banned in france and a few other places and she didn't win evo... or get top 8 IIRC. Definitely not 1st or 2nd. Though I think everybody can agree Viola is definitely up there in terms of "is this character bannable".

I don't know much about kokonoe but she sounds really stupid. I mean if a 2 week old character can beat top japanese BB players, it says something. Definitely an eye opener, thats for sure.

Yeah I think it's starting to grow on me a bit. These later songs are a bit better than the first two IMO.

Also I know it's still a month away, but it's absurd how nervous I am already for Winter Brawl. Hopefully i can get it under control because it's only gonna get worse the closer WB gets. I didn't even get this nervous for football games back in the day, and you should have seen how nervous I would get before those, it was ridiculous.

Well agree to disagree, but I'm glad we are having some BB talk (which of course was one of my points ;))

I will just say that one other factor is Kokonoe is fun as hell to play as. I know we had the discussion about variations of moves versus different moves, but having pretty much everything in one character is enjoyable.

They should just ban Peyton Manning Kokonoe before it's too late, because nobody will care once Xrd releases.

But, then again, if nobody will care, it's probably just a waste of time. Let it roll.

I think the character is great, and has a fun tool set. A trap like character shouldn't have everything though. What's the point of her shock meter and fireball meter when she can pretty much use it whenever needed? Why can she play keep away and rush you down, and do the most damage meterless, and put you into an unblockable set up that leads to her traps, and her big damage output? Id like to see the character, but the current version of her is harmful to the game, and Arcsys future games.

Valk's damage got nerfed in cs (he used to hit like a truck), and you have to manage his wolf meter. Taokaka isn't easy to play and takes a specialist to be really good with her. Kokonoe is derp easy to play, and if you put the time into her you are rewarded with a character that does a lot of damage for very little effort. If this character was in line with the rest of the cast I wouldn't complain at all.

Learning to Project M with Wiimote+Nunchuk controls because my Wii can't read my Brawl disc anymore and Wii U's all I got left.

Someone make a video on how to do simple wave dashes with this setup please. :lol
