Fighting Games Weekly | June 1-7 | QAisTopTier

Interesting that Jack-O' has a bunch of special Dust attacks.
Well it seems more like all of her attacks are on D while the rest of the buttons are for manipulating minions/creeps.

Seems like an interesting character, hope it ends up being something more than just rush down press buttons in someone's face like Elphelt did.

Dustloop please :/

You should be so lucky. BB had great stuff.
BlazBlue has some great gameplay...except for the last iteration or two. A lot of these new characters are snooze tier. The designs are almost universally awful. Puberty Rachel would be an insta-main for me, and maybe rival Dormammu as one of my all-time favorite characters.

Is PS4 Ultra worth getting yet?

Input lag is less, but still more than 360. I'd really only say try it out if you only play on PC/PS3 since the lag is closer to those versions.

Netcode is also still worse than 360/PC. Then again it may be because the matches I played were against Blackules streaming ass.

Should hopefully be getting some footage on Friday.

I think that's when the loketest is.

I got that cheap Skullgirls. Gonna try and learn Cerebella.
Feel free to PM for a sparring session if you want some tips and training. I'm not some pro player, but I use her against pretty strong people. Ironically she is probably my strongest character despite Parasoul being my main.

Easily one of the greatest grapplers in the genre and definitely the best grappler since Pot.
I picked up SG too. Game and all DLC for just under $7. So good.

Picking up Beowulf and big band. Might use double as a third.

Forgot how much I loved this game.

Speak for yourself, that shit is hard.
Shit yes

SF4's netcode combined with links made it the bane of my online warrior existence.
Ryu still 5'9", but he bulked up from his "150lb" days

also, hitstop like a mothafucka
Ryu's weight is 37 pounds heavier than what it's normally listed at.

Confirmed: Ryu has been lifting lately.
I hope Capcom takes this chance to fix any discrepancies for returning fighters. Zangief looking the way he does at only 250lbs is crazy considering his height.

This will only end one of two ways. She'll either be terrible or the greatest thing ever. Any chance of buying a PS4 this year will definitely influenced by that fact even if only a little.

The cast isn't ready for the verbal assault from a teenage Rachel. I'd say to wait for a Xrd styled sequel, but almost everyone would probably be dead in the time it takes her to age a year lol.

Leave Rachel as she is. Outside of those fan service shots by ASW, I don't think her design is as bad/offensive as other characters for people.

Wow you can hit every link and never miss? Turns out your execution is better than than literally every pro ever.

I still drop things sometimes, but it's pretty consistent :v

I just find the execution to be really simple since link timing virtually never changes and you can drill it into muscle memory no problem. Humans drop things cause humans, but a lot of people are super consistent.

Yeah Rachel is fine outside of promotional material, Plat is pretty much the same way.

Thanks, I'll probably take you up on that. I haven't left the lab yet, still trying to get the hang of combos. Do you know any easy-ish bnbs?

It isn't Platinum bad, but I just don't want to main a 10,000 year old child. Worst trope.

PC lag is equal or less than 360 lag.

I need to play more people in skullgirls, I'm liking the game with the new characters now and I've been makeshifting some tech with beowulf that seems to be working consistently. It's hard to figure what you're doing wrong in that game. I faced against ducktator in casuals at combo breaker and was getting bodied, but even he was falling for some of my beowulf shit.

j.mp, st/cr.mp, cr.HP, j.mk, j.hk, cr/st.lk, cr.mk, j.mp, j.hk (delayed timing is important for the restand here), st.mp, cr.HP, j.lp (mash),st.lp, st/cr.mp, st.hk, qcf.lp/hp, diamond dynamo/diamonds are forever

She has a lot of ways to combo and you can figure out a really high damage BnB that most of the cast has to work for within 5 minutes. Take Sloth's advice on the threads because I can't teach if it isn't hands on in a match.

The Berserker is probably my least favorite trope. Azrael is cringe central to me. At least Rachel doesn't come off as trying too hard.
Everyone dead sounds great to me.
But I wouldn't be able to play Bang . :I

I hardly play gaffers in anything these days. I'd probably have an easier time setting up matches with Rotanibor or Duck lmao.
Anybody wanna do a GAF allplay lobby on Skullgirls tonight
Been waiting forever for someone to say this. Hopefully we're talking PC so that people can use Beowulf and Robo Fortune. We also need to test the new character voice packs (Salty Parasoul, Valley Girl Painwheel, Anime Peacock and Politician Double).

MasterMilk suggested that I draft up a Kickstarter writeup for the FG tutorial project, so I went ahead and did that. Very rough draft, and I have no experience in asking others for money - this is way out of my comfort zone:

This Kickstarter is to teach people how to play fighting games. While every genre has a set of traits that distinguishes it from others (stats and leveling in RPGs, dual analog movement in shooters, etc.), the universal traits that bind all fighting games together are largely unknown to the public. Recently, a NeoGAF thread highlighted this issue: (various pics)

Not only does the average game fan not understand fighting games, but there are limited resources available for those who want to learn. I want to provide a set of videos that anyone, from any knowledge base, can use to get started in fighting games. This video series will teach a player everything from the most basic underlying mechanics present in every fighter to the essentials for intermediate play.

Below is a full set of currently planned topics:

(Post from Google doc)

You can comment on the topic list at the Google Doc link below - feedback is welcome:

(Post Doc link)

I have been passionate about for several years, but only just now feel capable of. This is not my first foray into fighting game education. As a passionate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 player, I have written two articles on the game, I am the author of The Dormammu Guide on Shoryuken.com, and I am the primary writer for over 100 pages of reflection on the state of Marvel's balance:

(links)

So, why do I need your help? This year, I bought a fantastic Elgato60HD capture card, but my computer is too old to run it. I used my wife's laptop to record and upload some gameplay at (YT Link), but she just suffered a Hard Drive Failure last night, and her computer already struggles to do the work I need it to do.

I need a new computer.

Also, I need some tools for video editing, sound, and overlay. I am not a wealthy man, especially since I have a baby on the way (yay!). Below is what my budget looks like:

Laptop -

Microphone -

Video Software -

I am not asking to get paid to make the videos - I would do them without a Kickstarter if I could. Any additional money beyond the minimum goal will be set aside for a "fighting game fund" to purchase new fighting games as they come out. I try to play every fighter out there, but I don't get to buy them often. Concurrently with making this series, I plan to upload various recorded matches of my gameplay for others to learn from, and I will continue to make tutorials on various fighting game notions moving forward. This is a long-term investment for me and the community.

While the video series will use a variety of games to demonstrate fighting game fundamentals, backers can have the option of choosing a particular game to be featured if they so choose.

Backer Rewards:

$10 - name in YT description for credits.

$20 - pick a specific moment in FG history to demonstrate a concept in a tutorial of your choice

$50 - choose what game I use to demonstrate a concept in a tutorial of your  choice

$75 - your own gameplay in a tutorial of your choice (video quality must be high; I am glad to help you record online if that is a possibility)

$100 - ???

They will replace him with a clone version, don't worry!

I love Berserkers. :p

Skullgirls question since I picked it up through the sale: Whats the most played team size? Three? Fun game, though I have no idea what I'm doing in it yet.

Also is it E3 yet? Really want to see SFV in peoples hands.

Skills: Is a Hobo

LOL

I gotta say with Blue Jade, Eternal Wanderer, etc. a lot of them feel like Stand names. Maybe I'm too deep in the Jojo vortex.

(I'm still salty I can't buy the Part 3 fighting game anymore :/)

It's pretty common in competitive gaming to abandon older games for newer ones, even if the older game is really good.

Pretty Much. The fact that Melee has actually grown over time is an anomaly in the competitive world and its not surprising that it can confuse people. I'm sure that colors the conversation in a manner you don't see with other fighting game series.

There's definitely an petty inferiority complex among people that are playing the newer game.

*cue whiney white kid voice*

"Smash 4 is SO good you'd know it you weren't so old and stuck in your ways. Like my Grandpa."

Sure but lets not pretend it doesn't go both ways. Overall though, I don't think most of the larger Smash community cares one way or the other.

Teams of two seem to be the most popular. There's a debate on whether teams of 2 or 3 are better, but right now I see teams of 2 more.

Melee fan: "These damn kids will play anything. Smash games aren't what they used to be. Why, back in my day, we only picked 5 characters in competitive play, and we liked it that way! Patches? Those are for jeans, not game balance! If I had it my way, there would still be no online play! Face to face matches on a standard definition TV is still the purest form of gaming, I say."

It goes both ways. :)

If you do that to Tutorial then you better use supersmash brothers 4 as your example for neutral game and footsies.

Good sir, I believe you just trashed Izayoi and Kagura. Shame on you.

Edit2: Oh right, Displaylag doesn't use TE2s to test theirs. They use a mechanical keyboard and converter which is why the numbers are greater on theirs.

This would have been nice to know. I've never seen any mention of it. Tests for peripherals that work natively with the PS4 would be a nice addition.

They're adding throw tech to Xrd. There is a god.

Wonder what the requirements are.

GG XrD Sign just came out in Europe so I picked it up, wanting to support fighters and all that. My problem is, my stick doesn't work. It's PC/PS3/360 capable and I use it for USF4 on PS4 but for some reason it's not working on GG. Have I missed something? Is there some option I need to hit or are PS3 sticks not catered for in this game? In which case I've just spunked 36 quid up the wall.

Xrd only supports ps4 sticks

That's a superiority complex. I'll take that any day over the alternative ;)
