I swear he won both of those at Evo at some point? Or was it side tournaments

He did win Injustice in 2014 but he wasn't the favorite going in. Theo was unquestionably the favorite heading into EVO 2014. Sonic Fox was a contender, he had won CEO and Final Round, but Theo was winning everything he entered at that time. Sonic Fox didn't pull ahead in Injustice until after EVO 2014.

I remember finding it pretty easy to figure out. The problem was doing it all consistently without fucking up. I've still not fully completed Evasion-2 and 4 on FS' tutorial.

And yeah, there aren't any more lessons in that. 4 EVO's tutorial is way more robust by comparison.

Once I learned to use the game's generous buffer I found it easy to do consistently.

It wasn't hard to figure out, it's just that once I realized what the underlying mechanics at work were, It felt more satisfying, because I learned more about the game in general. It's knowledge I can apply elsewhere.

It's the difference between knowing the physics and knowing the math behind the physics.

ah so that's what you mean.

The biggest tragedy in competetive gaming.

Ok how often does this happen? Because I need some examples.

Pretty much every competitive game had groups of hold outs that refused to move on when a new version was released.

It's not like the transitions are smooth either, in a lot of cases the developer/publisher ends up being involved prodding the player base via monetary incentives or ongoing support.

I am sure most of the transition happens as new players come into the franchise and start with the latest entry. Which defines their experience and expectations. Or as some people would put here 09ers.

I mean, moving on is important if you want developer support. If the community doesn't care for it, then keep playing. However, the community has to know it's a risk if the developer keeps making games for the series as your game could become too old to last.

You don't have to move on from Melee any more than you have to move on from Chess or Go. Play the game as long as you enjoy it.

I really like how they're sharing each character's individual stats. They should put that in the character select screen or somewhere else in the game so newcomers and just players in general can have a feel of what each characters strengths and weaknesses are.

Sounds like an idea they might have.

There's definitely an petty inferiority complex among people that are playing the newer game.

"Smash 4 is SO good you'd know it you weren't so old and stuck in your ways. Like my Grandpa."

People should stop posting this like it means anything.

It was there in the SFxT version. It's just a random artist easter egg.

occupation: martial artist

how does ryu make money again? i know the sf world has tournaments but has it ever been canon that he won a tournament?

He may not show up for trophy ceremonies, but he assuredly pockets the cash.

Like a true tournament player back in the day.

isn't it bison that throws the tournaments though? the org is destroyed once he is defeated so who is going to pay him?

Money from tournaments. Forgot where I read it, but he has a bunch of money and he chooses not to spend it. More specifically, he prefers to not buy shoes and go barefoot.

Yep. Its fun to hide easter eggs. Can't do as much as you used to when I first started. I used to put my co-workers faces in upper windows or hide their faces on certain sections of a map. I put my daughter's birthdate on some mechanical pieces I made. A lot of it got rezed down to be indistinguishable so the text would be down to nothing especially during the ps2/xbox age. Even the ps3/360 age spec and normal maps would be mitmapped you couldn't see anything.

You do try to hide easter eggs of past games in hopes that people might notice (and some do!) but it mostly means nothing.

I am Ryu, confirmed.
I used to sleep on the lecture hallway floors between classes when I had time between classes.

My father is amazing at being able to take a nap anywhere. One time he just fell asleep mid-conversation :D

Helps a bunch in a traveling job like he has, though.

50k pot bonus for MKX at EVO and 100k for ESL finals. A lot of money to be made playing MK for Sonic Fox(maybe).

The favorite going in to EVO has never won in NRS games. Will be very interesting.

You're not feeling hungry for the dough?

It's pretty common in competitive gaming to abandon older games for newer ones, even if the older game is really good.

Sadly. So many older games I've found to be better than the newer iterations. Sometimes so much they should've lived on and let the sequel rot.

I'm very happy AoE2 players are keeping their game alive, and that BW seems to be growing in the RTS space at least.

People should move from Chess to Go Keepo

The hit stop in SFV is crazy. I'm assuming it's to make the combo system much easier. I suspect it will be somewhere between SF x T chain combos and SF4.

Ryu probably mops up at locals and regionals

Some Photoshop wizard can change this to "The Fight Money is all."

I suppose they want a happy medium between "check out these 1 frame links for BnBs" and "chain combos/auto-combo mashing yo what"
