Not for Ryu, he can't V Trigger cancel from specials. They did that because they didn't want players doing random DP > V Trigger to make it safe like players do with FADC in SF4. Momochi did do F+HP, cr. HP, V Trigger, DP, Denjin Hadoken. So like FADC, V Trigger can be used to extend combos. I don't expect to see any long Tatsu or Axe kick loops though like the ones Sakura and Evil Ryu has.

Didn't know that Ryu can't V-trigger cancel specials, yikes. Considering that every character has an "anti-ryu-tech" ,as Daigo would call it, his fireball zoning game outside of V-trigger might be quite weaker than in sfiv and at first glance his cr.mk doesn't look too hot either in terms of range.

In the Ultrachen google doc it says this about combo extension via V-Trigger:

Can you still link stuff after Solar Plexus Strike?
For sure, players have done extended combos with standing MP and crouching HP, e.g. f.HP -> MP -> MP HP HK and f.HP -> cr.HP xx V-Trigger -> more nastiness

I saw you were kidding but it reminds me of just how under utilized she was. Her pressure was legit and her lightning leg assist can setup stuff for the right team. I know her damage output was low but with the amount of hits she got and her terrific air dash pressure and crumple options you'd think someone would have experimented harder with maximizing a team setup for her to use seriously. Not like her combos were too rough or like DHC stuff wasn't a big thing for folks already.

Chun Li was under used in Marvel. She was fun and definitely usable out there. I used to enjoy the dirty stuff her and Rocket Raccoon got together with lightning legs and dig.

what?
she's pretty trash and almost unusable in a competitive environment dawg
the only dudes really doing work with her switch away from her when they actually want to win for a reason

also her damage is really high off a grounded hit, even with assist starters cuz she works with most good assists to get ex birdkick extensions that add a massive chunk to her stuff, but those are actually involved and thus very droppable..
like, the amount of hits she gets on any good character is going effectively be zero because she does nothing to convert positive situations into strong guessy offense or control the screen to even start those situations in the first place
lightning legs kinda sucks ass as an assist too due to it's inability to be used in neutral- it's strictly a pressure tool and nothing else unlike almost every other pressure assist

I feel like I'm the only one in here who still likes SF4 after this week lol. I'm pretty excited about SEA Major and am looking forward to high level play again. The pros tournament in SFV just didn't do it for me. Nobody knows what they're doing yet. Birdie players and Justin got away with so much because nobody knows how to deal with the new characters/moves. Daigo basically handicapped himself by playing Ryu and had to fight off old habits while everybody was trying to play SFV since they chose a character they don't play in SF4.

I'm still really excited about SFV and i'm pumped to try the beta. But the game won't look that great to watch for me until all the top guys have at least one month with the game. I think SFV at EVO 2016 will be pretty amazing. For now, back to DP, FADC, Ultra hype :p

Although I'm ready for a new Street Fighter, I'm not exactly on the SFV hype train just yet.

I disagree.
SFV Frame Rate Test On PS4.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oRaau8hzZE

Eurogamer recently attended a press event where Capcom showcased the upcoming Street Fighter 5, coming to PlayStation 4 and PC. Direct feed capture was available, and we've culled a selection of clips from their raw video in order to produce this work-in-progress performance analysis.

As you can see, aside from some minor drops from the target frame-rate mostly in the intro sequences (which will have zero impact on gameplay), performance is highly fluid overall with time remaining to iron out any kinks.

Capcom has transitioned from its own tech with Street Fighter 4 towards Unreal Engine 4 for the new game. It'll be interesting to test input latencies but for now, it certainly looks as though the change in engine has made no impact on performance.

One element that did stand out a touch was a reduced refresh on background characters - in the b-roll Capcom released, they updated at 60Hz, in line with the rest of the game. Here, we see them update at half-rate during the fighting.

Edit: removed my poor attempts at "humour" previous page. Also, for the ban the testers satire. It clear it just serves to derail this thread and no one finds it funny.

Good for you, man. I like seeing people standing by the fighters they play no matter what I personally think of said game(s). I'm only going to get a bit annoyed at all the people pretending they'd never given SF4 the time of day (or that it is garbage all of a sudden) when most non anime or kof fans gobbled the game up like everything else was a dead game. Part of me hopes MK9 and Injustice also have fans still keeping hope alive for years to come too.

There was a cool runaway Chun at SCR:p Most interesting Chun I've seen in a while.

Some minor hope for UMvC3 on X1, Phil Spencer was on Giant Bomb and he says that the 360 emulation is pretty low level and they emulate the OS and everything to get "frame by frame" performance. This is good to hear, because the concern with fighting games is not really that they run but they perform really well. Not a confirmation of things either way but it gives hope that it'll be actually playable.

Looks like Game DVR and all the X1 OS features will be able to be used too. Also no publisher-side work is required.

the fireballs seem more suited to footsies/mid-range pressure in this game than long range zoning. they look decently fast based on the gameplay this week--if you're spacing correctly, the opponent will need a read rather than a reaction to land a jump in or punish you hard, and a lot of V-skills might be riskier and less reliable as fireball counters when you're up close. definitely not the ex versions, which are really fucking fast. the range I'm talking about is the one daigo usually abuses in his own fireball game to great effect. I'm sure he'll be the one demonstrate how good Ryu's fireball is.

I hate kara techniques. Why not just give the character that range on their special or throw
Because kara attacks have increased start up for increased range
Random Fighting Game Question:

Why do you guys think 3d fighters didn't take over the genre as much as other 3d game did other genres?

Look at the diversity of playstyles and appearances in 2D vs 3D. 3D characters seem to always be up close styles, nothing like runaway, keepaway or zoning.

yea Ryu will be fine. even with everyone getting "anti-ryu tech" (as Daigo would call it) his fireballs seem to manly be used for mid range footsies with the different speeds to throw of the opponent. He's far from worst of than 3rd strike too.

This means fuck all. People aren't going to sell their 360 setups and buy new sticks and a x1 to play marvel. Mental if people think this means a damn thing.

I can't put my finger on it, but this sounds really familiar. Almost eerily so, but I don't know what it reminds me of. D: Or maybe that's just how generic it is. -_-

What sort of system was used for this test?

IF they can get a bit more optimization down, and this wasn't tested on some $5000 rig, good sign PC version should work well.
They were testing the PS4 version (they have some hardware that basically measures framerate based on the video output). I don't think the PC version will really be seen until the beta test in the fall.

Sf and wailing electric guitar are not things I associate with each other generally... I gues sf2's soundtrack woulda been hella j rockish if it was played by live instruments.

SF IV had some of the wackiest music ever that would just get on your nerves after a while. It fit but like anything if you play the game long enough you get sick of. I'll keep the music in SF V playing for like a couple days and then I'll just play my own through my PS4. SF to hip-hop beats is always better and gets me way more in the groove.

Slayer of Combofiends
FGW | Jiggling Ice Cream Cone

i think the character themes in sf4 are largely amazing.

Aris' sentiment regarding Tekken 7 mirrors my own. SF5 seems at least somewhat ambitious. Tekken 7 makes it seem like Namco doesn't have confidence in the future of the franchise, and they're just reaping what they can from their remaining base of fans.

SFV's current music sounds like it could be the climax of some post-rock album.

Someone could link me the a cut of the char select theme and tell me it was a snippet of a new Explosions in the Sky album and I'd have to second guess myself for a second.
