Fighting Games Weekly | June 18-24

HDR hate is way overblown. Sirlin made a few mistakes, but it's an overall more solid game than ST- problem is that isn't what people wanted.
When ressurecting old games like this, you have to leave the balance alone, because people will not be willing to re-learn the game now that its "retired."

That is the lesson of Sirlin's folly.

This might have been talked about already, but did anyone see this bullshit from Kotaku(surprise surprise):
http://kotaku.com/5824084/well-thats-one-way-to-combat-misogyny-in-gaming
"Nothing ruins a good LAN party like uncomfortable guests or lots of tension, both of which can result from mixing immature, misogynistic male-gamers with female counterparts," the organizers originally wrote in an event FAQ. "Though we've done our best to avoid these situations in years past, we've certainly had our share of problems. As a result, we no longer allow women to attend this event.

So, where's all the drama and articles calling out the competitive FPS community? Where's all the faux outrage? Why is it only the FGC getting singled out? If the TO of a major pulled some shit like this there would be a tsunami of bullshit on the website.

Sorry for shitting this thread up with yet more Kotaku bitching, but this shit just really grinds my gears.

This happened almost a year ago, and if I remember correctly there was a pretty big shit storm and a lot of faux outrage. I agree that these kind of things can be blown out of proportion, but I don't think there's any special persecution of the FGC.

So there's no official stream for MWC period? Really? I was wondering why Saturday Night Snapback was the only big SF/Marvel stream I saw on Twitch yesterday.

Did a streamer back out at the last minute or something? The last EVO major I remember that was barely streamed was Texas Showdown, which by all accounts was a mess.

As backwards and asinine as it is, it's still a private event, so they are well within their rights to do that.

Good luck getting away with it without any scorn, though. Morons.

Woops. I'm still a bit drunk from yesterday (well, this morning I guess). I even check the date before posting but it didn't register as off for me at all 'till I read your post. Sorry about that.

I honestly don't see the problem with having a LAN event that bars women from attending. If women wanted to make a LAN event that bars men, I'm completely fine with that. It's one thing if it's a public event, but if a private group wants it to be a certain way, why not?

Because the female populace isn't big enough in that area to be able to do that. Imagine not being able to go to the event because of that, but at t he same time not having enough of your own sex to organize your own. It's fucking stupid.

Banning women is wrong. Banning people not actually participating in the games might of been better.

I go to a LAN once a month and we've had no problems with females attending, it's kind of silly to say they can't come but whatever.

There are plenty of things, things beyond the hobby world, that target only women. I don't see how the two are different. If a bunch of guys want to have an event where only guys are there, I think it's ridiculous to shame them into allowing women to attend as well.

I took a day off from everything to make myself feel good. What did I miss?

I went to EVO's setting early and checked it out. The place is going to be intense.

Believe it or not Evilore has a warm heart beneath his ban wielding armor.

Spooky and KOF together at last!
