Imagine the furious amounts of salt if the Road to EVO had tournaments with vastly different formats. Like one of each for Marvel:

- First to 5 long sets.
- 3 of 5
- 1 and done (single elim.)
- Standardized teams.

Then have EVO be the default 3 of 5, custom team selection.
This also brings up another interesting point in that the FGC standard tournament format is biased against the types of players that perform poorly in quick sets but do well in long sets after they get the opportunity to download the opponent.

Imagine if grand finals were in a grueling game/set/match format like tennis where like forty or more matches of Marvel could get played before a winner was determined! Obviously impossible logistics wise in a two day multi-game tournament rather than the two weeks the French Open gets to run through the entire bracket for one game.

I don't think Aksys Games does E3. If the game is coming out in America, it's likely Aksys will be the ones publishing.

You missed this topic.

They're always at E3, as are other smaller publishers.
But since they're smaller publishers, the titles they announce don't typically get that much coverage.
For instance, Natsume announces stuff at E3 all the time, I think Atlus announced Trauma Team there, and so on.

I agree with that as well. I think teams should provide as best as possible. I really think if they can't get a full on living wage from their team, they should at least focus on winning and work on promoting themselves through streaming or video content. Even though, I'm getting awfully tired of hearing it, they should be going for that CPM money on the side.

I think FG pros are late to this thing. eSports has been on this for a while. Pretty much every EG SC2 player is streaming on Twitch and running commercials. FChamp has caught onto this, I think ChrisG should get on this, because he's winning all the time, and that could be used to his advantage, not just AGE's.

exactly, like what does ChrisG do besides go to tournaments that benifits the community? He had a short stint with Finger Cramp and then thats it. And hes complaining that the FGC does not have money? Help BRING money in the FGC by making a brands by like you said, creating content with streams or videos.

E3 Hopes:

JoJo's All-Star Battle localization announcement
GGXrd
Killer Instinct 3

Realistic Predictions:

Nothing, the fighting game genre is dead
Maybe an Injustice DLC character
Blazeblue

I forgot about ALl-Star Battle actually (I don't even know how I did), I'll have to add that to my post of what I want.

Darkstalkers isnt happening. After the Sales with Darkstalers Rebirth I dont think Capcom is willing to risk redoing that series. I do hope Capcom announces a new fighting game. Like a Mvc-Style Capcom-All-Stars Game.

I am sure Xrd would probably be one of the Arkyss games as an offical US annoucement and maybe BBCP. I could care less about BBCP now since they've announced Xrd... Never enjopyed Blazblue series....

There we go.

I wonder how long they'll wait to pull the trigger on a new Street Fighter. Maybe we'll see it next year, and release in Japanese arcades in Summer 2015?

0.000000000001% chance of a SFV announcement at E3 mostly because they are still pushing AE and the new patch.

You have a better chance of seeing a Marvel patch announcement at E3/EVO.

exactly, it would be dumb to announce a SF5, in fact, them doing a patch is just to buy time for a next installment.

To be fair, twitch ads kind of pay like ass unless you have thousands upon thousands of viewers. Producing evergreen video content and getting a decent partner deal on Youtube is a much better deal.

Even if FChamp's CPM is ass, he's giving his sponsors a lot of exposure with his stream. That makes him more valuable.

They know that SFV needs to be last in order to give the other IPs a better chance. Plus, SFIV is still going strong.

Yeah, it doesn't have to be one or the other. Stream on Twitch. Move highlights or unique content to Youtube. Along with winning, he only builds up his own profile and community around himself.

It's weird that to see how much distrust players held back from tournament organizers in regards to finances. Transparency is important but at some point players need to start doing their own math and adding up all the costs of doing a major. For instance, how many players do I need to attend to cover the cost of the venue I'm going to rent? Which sponsors can assist in prizes? And how much of my own money can I afford to spend. It's almost shameful that TO's have to come out in a public setting to clear the misunderstanding, which is that no one is getting rich from running a tournament.

These types of exchanges have been eye-opening over the past week or so. I mean, I knew the education level was relatively low in the FGC, but this has all been really bizarre. Guess I'll just ignore player drama...it's not even fun to laugh at at this point, just sad, and I feel bad for the people who are trying to grow this thing.

I'm going to call it. E3 2014, Street Fighter 5 will be a MOBA.

Capcom has to basically do what they did in this generation. Start off with some early new generation IPs like Lost Planet and Dead Rising to optimize the next gen engine then develop the top tier IPs of Capcom like RE5 and DMC4.

So my guess is that Capcom is going to hype up Deep Down plus some other new IP then follow it up with RE7, SFV and DMC5 (berieve). Although I guess Deep Down isn't really a new IP if its Dragon's Dogma 2 but that is the type of game that could make a huge splash for next gen.

I think Capcom is set up better than any japanese third party right now. Their engine scales extremely well and their PC ports are basically what I expect next generation games to look like.

I expect Capcom to reboot SF next-gen. They put just about everyone in the game this gen, so I think they may try the SF3 route of fewer chars+ more gameplay changes.

They have SF4 where they put everyone in (I think they might release a next-gen SF4 down the road as a downloadable)

And I just got my ass kicked by Sim in Kadey's room. I needed angry black man knee but it's in the wrong game. ^_^

Bah, why can't there be more Guilty Gear coverage.
Pretty much the only things we're getting have only been from Mikado, and several weeks old.

Wonder if they will be aiming for the current gen or next gen with SFV.

They can milk it more if they make it next gen but this gen's userbase is pretty substantial and other companies like Arcsys (new Guilty Gear), SNK (hiring 25 employees to make new KOF and SamSho on PS360) etc. are sticking to current gen.

I wish I could understand footsies/spacing in high-mobility games. I've never understood it in KOF13, BB, P4A, Marvel, MB, etc.
Any time you see a Magneto doing super jump up air dash down j.H or placing a Magnetic Blast that is "footsies" or space control in Marvel. Or Sentinel doing fly j.M unfly j.M while landing that is another type of aerial footsies.

In Marvel you are doing footsies and zoning from full screen away because moves have huge hit boxes and characters have godlike mobility. Even then you can still be clipped by something full screen (Zero says hi). Traditional footsies which include just walking back and forward throwing out normals would get you destroyed in this game mostly because A) staying on the ground for too long is extremely dangerous and B) walking around is generally inferior to dashing/air dashing around. That's why you going to see Dante do IAD j.M/j.H while throwing out Air Guitars rather than just walking back and forth throwing out st.L/st.M for footsies. This is why the APM in a standard Marvel match is quite high.

That said there are some characters in Marvel that can play pure ground footsies with some extra tools and godlike wave dash. Vergil, Taskmaster, Nova (with the Slides), Wesker, Iron Fist, Ryu, Dante, Hawkeye are among the best ground footsie characters in the game. You really appreciate that when you watch someone like DJHoushen play Taskmaster... those footsies are so freakin real.

This Gen is the walking dead. It's why Injustice immediately Bomba'd - they have only a few more months to move significant numbers of copies.

All I'm saying is that streaming for ad money is a waste of time. you can monetize your audience and personal exposure that comes from streaming in other ways even without the ads.

Predictions:
HD SF Alpha Series (my dream is they use existing sprites but tweak frames and hit/hurt box)
DiveKick : NetFlix of fighting games. It will be on everything. Constantly updating/adding/removing new characters.
Playable Smash Bros

It's pretty much the same idea things are just happening at a higher rate.
Maybe I just have a very shallow idea of spacing in general because I only play SF4 (really poorly too). I'm not used to being concerned with how to space myself to prevent people from air dashing/short hopping all over me (which is one of the reasons why I was bad at KOF13, I think). I'm interested in picking up BBCP, so hopefully I can figure out what's going on with a little experience.

Thanks. I'll try seeing if I can tell when characters stay full-screen and when they decide to close the gap. Things happen so fast in Marvel and there are so many things to keep track of because of assists that it gets overwhelming trying to think of all of the space being covered.

Also people are space controlling/playing footsies with Assists as well. This was more apparent in MVC2 though where one person would call assist and he would counter that by calling his own assist (the classical CapCom counter call).

This is a good match. You can watch some aerial footsies starting at around 1:00 when Justin's Storm tries to get in against Nova who is spacing her out. Justin Wong actually plays real footsies with Wolverine too.

It's a matter of building a wall and outside of SF there are so many other ways to do it that people can feel overwhelmed.

This weekend is a Smash Bros. national featuring SSBM, SSB64, and Project M (a Smash mod of Brawl). It's ran by the same staff who held Apex 2013. It doesn't start until tomorrow afternoon but I'll be more than likely to post when the streams are live. This is also an EVO qualifier for Melee! So EVO points are on the line.

Zenith 2013

Streams:

Main stream - http://www.twitch.tv/clashtournaments
Secondary stream - http://www.twitch.tv/vgbootcamp

All of your favorites will be there: M2K, Mango, Scar, Unknown522, Hax, JMan, DaShizWhiz, Hungrybox, and much more!
Will add to OP when I get home.

That was Sven's communication being taken out of context. Eventhubs screwed up. Capcom doesn't even have the Marvel license right now, so there's zero chance of a MvC4 being announced at E3. Zero.
Well, they don't have the MvC license anymore. They could easily have the Marvel license for a Marvel-only fighter or something. It's just that the license/contract for MvC releases is up. They could've drafted a new one that's separate.

But that's unlikely too, and is 99% not happening.
