Final Fantasy 12 - 8990 yen !!

Awesome!

Sure it's expensive but holy crap if they are setting the price that means NO MORE DELAYS! MARCH 16TH = FINAL

Only 3 months and 16 days until the greatest game this gen arrives ^__________^

Yikes. What a rip!

Guess they had to make up for all those months of Matsuno off at the funny farm by jacking up the price a couple thousand yen, eh? :lol

Setting the price doesn't really mean much, IMO. Tons of games have had their prices set before undergoing delays... but yeah, I hope this date remains final!

Is that the "illness" that displaced Matsuno? I figured that the illness line was just a way for him to be removed from the project without suffering any dishonor.

yeah... typical...

I mean, with DQ8 at 9240, it still sold millions. Not surprised they set a similar price for FF12.

Fans of the series will still buy it no doubt. And it is with this thought in mind Square-Enix is setting this price. It worked for DQ8, so why not?

we're not asking why not, we're asking why. The way things are, you'd think squenix had a fucking monopoly going on.

Ouch, turn the knife, there Squenix why doncha. It better debut in the USA for $50, though.

Well duh, this is Japan's prices for Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, not a standard indicator for North American prices, like I said they have always been higher than most.

Not surprising really. I just hope people haven't forgotten this game is coming out.
I remember thinking Star Ocean 3 was expensive when that came out... >_<
Maybe they'll pass 10,000 for FFXIII.

Does anyone know whether Uematsu is going to compose the music for FFXII? I heard he was a long while ago (the development cycle for this one is way too long), but he seems to have fallen off the map. I can't remember any new songs from him since FF10. Did he bother with FF11?

Uematsu did the lead vocal tune for FFXII but I think that's about it. He did a few instrumental songs for FFXI.

The bigger question is how much of Blue Dragon's soundtrack he's doing for Mistwalker. If that's a complete soundtrack it's likely he's had a falling out with Square or their working conditions.

Hitoshi Sakamoto is doing most of the soundtrack for FFXII. Uematsu is freelance now.

Square: We need to charge a lot because we use a lot of FMV and FMV is expensive.

Shinji Mikami: WTF?

Square fanboys: Shut up Mikami! You betrayed us (and by "us" we mean "Sony") so you're not allowed to have an opinion. What do you know about FMV anyways?

Sort of off topic, but I find the term "FMV" to be incredibly stupid and out of date. "Full Motion Video"? Just call it CG!

CG is even worse than FMV. Imagine a game without computer graphics :P

Eh, the connotation to use the term CGI is already given regarding prerendered computer images, so it's not like people are going to get all confused with the technicals of such a term. It's already proper vernacular for movie visuals and the like. Now FMV seems to throw people off nowadays though.

I just find that DQ 8 is even more expensive
8800 yen (tax not included) 9240 yen (tax included)
Square-Enix is crazy~~

I remember that as well. I waited about a month and it came down in price to 6000?. Anything over 5000??is too much unless the game is of exceptional quality. Fortunately the price of games in Japan comes down really quick after launch.

Hopefully the $60 360 titles won't give them any ideas...

I wish that was so. If they are already pushing even games that are obviously cross generation efforts for $60 like Gun, Tony Hawk, and the like....our wallets are going to cry. :|

Kobun: DQ8 and FFX were both 8800. FFX2 was 7800, The Bouncer was 6800.

Fei: Uematsu wrote 11 pieces for FFXI, including the intro movie soundtrack which was arranged/orchestrated by Shiro Hamaguchi. Most of its music (and all of the expansions') were written by Naoshi Mizuta. Uematsu also wrote all the music to Hanjuku Hero vs. 3D and contributed to Hanjuku Hero 4 and FF7: Advent Children.

Zilch: "CG" doesn't really work either if taken literally, since it just means "computer graphics" which describes the real-time game graphics just as well. Why not call it "prerendered video", or PRV if that's too long?

edit: damn, beat to the punch on the FMV/CG/PRV thing.

It's best to just use the connatation of CGI term as is. Nothing to really scrutinize with. We just use "realtime graphics" to state non prerendered images anyway leaving CGI to dictate prerendered images/video.

I'm going to wait for the international version anyway.

Most people should unless English really bothers them. I can't stand this kind of pricing, no matter how good the game.
