Final Fantasy 5 Four Job Fiesta 2014: That Classic Taste [now ending]

Ugh, Purobolos fight was annoying.

Had to whittle them down until I got 3 of 'em to run out of MP and the others Self-Destructed.

Titan and Manticore weren't too bad (hooray Gravity/Slow).

Off to World 2 now!

what is good about it?
This is only my second time playing FFV, and last time I played was like.....I don't even know when

Most Bard songs are super handy. Romeo's Ballad trivializes 95% of random encounters (as well as Omega) and Alluring Air takes care of most of the rest. Mighty March is a party-wide Regen. Requiem (found in World 2) WRECKS undead. The rest of the songs boost stats or level which, over the course of a long fight, makes a huge difference. And all songs are free. Forever. Play all pianos and you're golden.

Most harps are garbage but the legendary weapon Apollo's Harp is pretty fantastic and does absurd damage to dragon enemies (including Shinryu and one of the more dangerous parts of the final boss).

If Chemists couldn't completely break the game Bards would be the best class.

Kientin, I'm so jealous of your party. Mages are the best thing about this game thanks to their versatility and stupid Gilgabot keeps giving me thieves and monks. My next playthrough is going to be random team 750 like I said yesterday to see what kind of crazy overpowered stuff my party can do.

Haha, you know I'd think trade you. I keep getting all this easy stuff like mystic knights on older runs. I kind of want a harder party now.

TIL that Gravity works against Liquid Flame.

One exploded Karnak later, and...

Berserker.

MY LOVE FOR YOU IS LIKE A TRUCK
WOULD YOU LIKE SOME MAKING FUCK

Money in da bank.

Flame Rings were bought, Rods were stocked up, pianos were played.
Shame you have no Ninjas because in the SFC version you can do some sort of glitch with throw to end up with -1 of an item, i.e. 254 of an item which makes money trivial. I guess it is against the spirit of the fiesta in a way (but is using Vampire at all then?) but flame ring farming takes a lot of time.

After sleeping on it, I decided to stick with my White Mage/Time Mage drawings. At least TMs can break rods, after all.

My team 750 run starts with White and Time Mage. Team minimum damage at random battles, assemble!

Now I actually want a Geomancer. It's funny how certain jobs are lifesavers when other times they're very underwhelming.

We can see the Time Mage gang attacking the local fauna. Knifes are surprisingly effective.

Edit: They leveled up and now are dealing less damage. What?

Edit: Third job, Bard. Bye, bye, random battles.

That would have been nice... maybe could have saved an hour and a half of my life. :) Will keep it in mind if I ever roll a Ninja. As long as you stick to your jobs, I don't see any reason not to exploit game-version bugs, right?

Beat Archeoaevis first form with a counter from my monk. Incredibly lucky.

Got Chemist, which is new for me. Kind of wish I could be more active here to ask Beastmaster and Chemist questions since I've never had either.

Monk/berserker/beastmaster/chemist

Beastmasters. Enemies that cast damage=%total are great (capped at 9999 damage things like Blaze, Breath Wing), Unleashing 3 dragons to finish off Neo-Exdeath is great. In world 2 make sure to get the item from capturing a frog in the wolf town. I think that is the higher HP capture one (useful for getting monsters) rather than the more reliable control one.

I think Yellow Dragons are a % damage release so a good way to finish off world 2.

Gravity/Slow = Time Mage? If so, rod breaking could have saved you some serious headache there. I agree, doing that fight without any multi-target attacks sounds decidedly un-fun.

Just got Bard for my fire job, was worried about the FF wiki calling it the worst job until I read the thread. Almost wish I'd get a Berserker just to see what they're like.

Knight, Time Mage, and Bard so far.

*edit*
Aaaaand I just died. Haven't saved since before the fire crystal.

This team and its buffs (Blink, Shell, Haste and +Agility) destroyed Exdeath. Choosing team 750 was definitely a wise decision even if the first world was too slow with that low damage.

So my teams for the rest runs are set:

Natrual: Knight, Berserker, Red Mage, Berserker. My first run with more than one Berserker and I still get a pretty decent team out of it.

Regular: White Mage, Berserker, Beastmaster....Dancer! Ooh la la! I was totally expecting another Berserker. There's some fantastic synergy here. Catch if I need that, White if I need healing, Equip Axes to strength the dancer, Equip Whips for the Berserker, Equip Ribbons for the final boss. Nothing mind blowing or game breaking but really nice!

If it isn't Rapid Fire/Spellsword/Dual Wield, then the FFWiki doesn't have a strat for it.

Oh right I remember going on and on about that last year.

Bard is very likely the third worst SOLO job in the game. It's incredible in a party though and the only thing really holding it back is HP. You get a bard enough HP to take certain hits and it becomes unstoppable with enough prep time.

Someone on reddit put together a much better guide aimed specifically at the FJF, compiled from a variety of FAQs and wiki sources. Really useful.

I'm reading through that now, and I noticed that they missed something. If you have Dancing Dagger equipped, you actually CAN attack twice with Dual Wield if you have it in the bottom hand. Sword Dance becomes even better when it hits twice!

Well up to the Interdimensional Rift with my Knight/Summoner/Berserker x2 team.
I accidentally forgot to get Catoblepas in World 2, so now I won't be able to Break that one part of NeoExdeath... Guess I'll need to grind or something.

I'm stuck at Archeoaevis - the final form, at least.

My classes so far are Black Mage / Summoner / Geomancer. I can take out the first four forms by breaking rods with no issues, but I have no way to damage the last form. Geomancy does no damage, my characters are too weak to do physical damage (and I don't even have any daggers for them)... is there anything I can do apart from leaving the dungeon, buying daggers, and level grinding? I don't have any healers so the boss tends to do about 1/4 to 1/2 of a character's total HP with each hit.

Wow, yeah, that sucks. Can you get enough damage out of Summon Chocobo spam?

It does a whopping zero damage. One of the FF5FJF guides also suggested using it, so I wonder if this was somehow "fixed" in the iOS version, which I'm playing.

Oh well... I'm just going to have to head out, get daggers, grind a little (mostly for HP) and try again later.

Well, you can fix the "no healing" issue with some Fire Rings, thanks to your Black Mages. Gathering up some gil and buying some Fire Rings and daggers might be your best option.

First time I'll look at the chests in the fire castle to make sure I get what I need. Glad I can flee from every battle if I need to...

But that is yet to come. Still need to beat the fire ship.

I'm having a few issues with world 2 exdeath, got a reflect ring on my mystic knight and that does buy me some time with wasted dispels. My white Mage has shell on the two berserker which usually doesn't get dispelled and keeps up healing while I use Drain Blade with the Mystic Knight, it's just that vacuum wave can hit pretty hard and can ohko my MK
Plus zombie breath just demolishes my party

Vacuum Wave is a physical attack, so keep up either Protect or Blink (and I guess just try to keep your Mystic Knight alive if you insist on a Reflect Ring).

I think it works pretty good between dispel and his last rounds of elemental magic. I'm open to suggestions though.

Edit: phew managed to do it by sticking to the strategy, he did have me to my berserkers though but managed to pull it off.

I think Gilgabot will cry if you use blessed kiss to skip neo-exdeath.

Another SFC underflow bug I recalled. Beserker with the right equipment can make magic go below 0 which makes for a more powerful quake spell from the hammers which cast it. It isn't game breaking massive but interesting to see.

Didn't know about the goblin punch full power brave blade trick. Though two handed is way better a lot of the time.

I've never been able to break that part (not even break blade as that requires you to roll mystick knight) but I think missed summons* can be found in the rift somewhere but are like specific areas and 1% encounter chances.

*-At the very least Golem and Ramuh.

Just started and got white Mage as my first job. I'm expecting a slow beginning, but looking forward to see how it's going

Looking around, it appears that Shoat can only be gotten in World 2. Then again, it doesn't look like the encounter tables have been data mined, so it could just be poor luck.

Finally got past the pyramid and got the first tablet and got the only weapons I can use, Rune Axe, assasins dagger and the staff. Got 2 Gaia hammers as well,

So I'm wondering what's the best choice of weapons, should the white Mage use a Gaia hammer the rune axe or the staff? Mystic Knight gets the dagger until I get an Enchancer I guess.

Just realized that I have been doing the Fiesta wrong. ARGH.

I somehow did not get that once all the crystals are unlocked, we are required to have one team member as each job ALWAYS. I did several battles beyond that point with multiple Knights, thinking that we had free reign within the realm of the four jobs we were assigned.

From this point on I will start swapping out to have one team member as each class at all times. I just don't have it in me to start over.

Gah, I feel dumb. It only became clear when I clicked on the "Examples" link on the FF5FJF2014 Help page.

Hooray for Death Potion! Boo on Berserker getting everybody else killed!

Yeah, Chemist makes this a breeze.

Team black mages, tearing it up.

Siren threw me a bit, before I remembered she has the phase change thing.
Looking forward to finally playing my Berserker, just gotta get to that next crystal.

Any missables I need to keep an eye out for, this early in the game?

Phew, got through Fork Tower which at least with auto mode on iOS I didn't have to mash A with the mystic knight.

Got through Istory Falls as well and got the Enchancer and the Titan Axe, and teared through Leviathan.

Is there anything worth it in the Trench for my party? Got a white Mage and 2 zerkers. I should probably get a second Hermes Sandals as well, don't have any of the other flame angel or coral rings, don't think I need them either right?

Nothing I can think of other that the Frost Rod in Carwen.

Thanks again for this, it's been a big help.

Still a ways from the Earth Crystal but I'm hoping for either White Mage or Berserker (because why not?). Regen kind of sucks for a healing spell m, or at least it seems to. Slow and Haste are godlike though.

Omniscient was a gigantic pain in the ass for my party. Ended up berserking him, blinding him, then burning through a ton of dragon fangs.

Same, but with free healing (Dragon Power should make Healing Staff useful for the Chemist, I hope).

Let's do this.

And done!

White Hole was incredibly annoying, as usual. I did keep Krile stoned until everybody else was buffed up, though.

Liquid Flame battle was quite silly. Had to wait it out a while for its mp to deplete and even then Blaze was annoying to deal with. Wish I could have cracked the ice rod. Oh well we get to ramp up from here after we escape this burning castle. Skipped most of the unimportant items as using the digital stick on the mobile version is bit hard to use for this timed escape (kept running into things). Iron claw was absolutely nothing to speak of. Just focus punched past him.

Ninja is the Fire Crystal job we get. Awesome. Dual wielding is a nice addition to the team and helps out my Berserker eventually. After my 2012 run it's nice to have my Berserker use more than Barehanded. Throw will also be nice to dish out damage and for the elemental scrolls for things that physical aren't great against. Did a u-turn to take care of Shiva even though we can't use her anyway.

Missed the ending shot with Byblos but it was a slog. I wish I had more than one Fire Scroll for this one. Had to throw that + 2 shurikens and the ashura from Tycoon just to finish this fight. My Berserker didn't get to do much this fight after being level halved and downed. Monks and Ninja using Focus after throwing all our good stuff.

Solune sleeping on the job on the Byblos and Sand Worm fights. It was an easy one just waiting to Focus it down. Got a bit low on health but no real difficulties.

Lenna has defeated Exdeath, with a little help from her zombie friends.

20140620_231122_small.jpg

Okay, a lot of help. ZomButz was randomly attacking her with his Cure Staff for healz, while KrileCorpse took the brunt of Exdeath's frustrated -ga spells and Vacuum Waves.

Reached the next world, and it's time for bed. I'll deal with my undead buddies later.
