Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

Wow looks like they improved on everything they possibly could.

Now just have a way to save Aeris for shits n giggles and we are set for fun.

While it would be fun to have two entirely different split scenarios based on saving her or letting her die like normal...i don't think they would do that

Why would they remove these things?

They(Square) probably won't, but some people think they should because... yadda yadda, they don't fit in realistic worlds, thus must be cut to maintain a realistic balance in the presentation... yadda yadda... bullshit. I'm glad Square don't subscribe to that way of thinking, because it's dangerously limiting to creativity and the interesting and diverse worlds of the FF series.

Well Lighting is a female Cloud basically.

You mean vice versa right.

Not really.

In terms of animation cues, its the other way around now. Some of his animations are reminiscent of lightning's in FFXIII's first half. There's no way Lightning's could've been based on Cloud's animations because in the PS1 game he looked like this :

latest

Those are some dangerous things you're saying, haha! I agree fully though - but the difference here is that Cloud actually evolves into an actual character during the game while Lightning... uh, yeah. I mean, she becomes sort of a character two sequels later.

Well I disagree :) ,but that's an ancient discussion at this point and not worth rehearsing.

Let's revel in the hype wave!

I just played the FF7 intro again and then watched this trailer. I have to say, this trailer is really boosting my trust in Squareenix, I think its gonna be awesome. The atmosphere, music, its all there. i still Cant believe that a year ago we got trolled so hard and thatnow we actually see some gameplay footage of the remake. I seriously cannot believe it, wtf

It is looking good but I am concerned about the apparent dramatic switch in the combat system to something action based. There was nothing wrong with the original system, and it's dangerous to be meddling with something that wasn't broken.

I'll be optimistic that they won't fuck this up, but I would have been quite satisfied if they had simply kept everything the same as it was. The game was a classic for a reason. The combat system was part of what made the game excellent in the first place.

I look forward to questioning Hojo in his lab coat at the beach at Costa Del Sol with bikini girls tending to him, IN HIGH DEFINITION.

I disagree.

Looks amazing!

I never played the original, so would you guys argue I should anyway since the combat is so different?

Can't wait to get a PS4 next year!

I wonder if they will keep Yuffie and Vincent as optional characters.
Can't see that happening if they're more integrated into the story.

To the haters, are you telling me this scene didn't get you? Click on the Youtube link while looking at the screenshot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lOv3tmcJnQ&index=60&list=PL80A1E9B2848DFAE0

actually this moment in the game got me with the feels more than anything else.

I don't exactly know why, and maybe that's because I'm a sucker for turn-based, but Barret's animation while shooting doesn't look exactly as "real-time motion".
I feel exactly the same way. Need to see the controller layout because this doesn't feel as KH/Versus as people are saying. May be jumping the gun here but I wouldn't be surprised if it is just a evolved semi-action system.

You're saying that a giant Moogle with a talking cat with a megaphone has a place in such an ultra realistic Final Fantasy VII? Cait should be retconned if they're going to be doing a reimagining, and Reeve should be his replacement. You can easily do a "betrays the party" storyline with just Reeve.

So as someone with no clue what Versus' combat was going to be like, was it going to be free range action RPG, something like Tales of Vesperia with a battle stage, or a mostly-static field with some key movement like Chrono Trigger?

I ask because, despite my old man-status, I find myself preferring any of those to the old-school ATB from the original.

Is it going to be ultra-realistic? Why does everyone have effects shooting off of them everywhere? Why can Cloud carry a gigantic sword? Magic genetics? How come Barrett's assault gun arm can shoot fireballs? Summons, magic, etc.?

FFXIII-2 had this lady, remember:

I think it can be realistic while having silly shit at the same time. I mean, the original FF7 was serious in parts while being ridiculous as well.

It's a great game as it is originally. The advantage of playing the original before the remake is that you'll be able to appreciate all the changes, so yeah, I would recommend it.

Besides, it'll make the wait until 2017 a little easier.

Well Im excited. Hope its able to hit the whimsical tones past Midgar, I have doubts about that considering its tone is a heightened dark midgar at the moment (always felt like cartoon blade runner, not just blade runner), but no problems with the battle system at all.

There's no set schedule sadly.
That's a shame :( If you remember, would you kindly send me a PM or give me the link on Steam whenever it gets uploaded? I might not be able to frequently update myself after today ._.

To the guy who felt that the backgrounds aren't 'busy' enough during a cutscene, here's an example of when Biggs and Jessie are running in the background (on their way to the core) while Barret is in focus (Also, LITERALLY a remake folks :D)

The battle system seems a good hybrid of the original in a modern game.

Whats far more interesting to me is exploring all the great locations in much greater detail. Wall market, Junon, North Coral, The Gold Saucer.... ahhh I cant wait!

Since SE are dead pressed are on reimagining FFVII, these are story changes I want:

1. When Cloud kills Sephiroth in the flashback, Cloud kills Sephiroth in the flashback. This means Sephiroth doesn't come back. Ever. Sephiroth is a terrible villain. All you're doing in disc 1 is chasing him. Instead...

2. Make Shinra the main villains. They were far better villains than Sephiroth and were tossed aside as soon as they started getting interesting. Instead of chasing Sephiroth, make the disc 1 portion of the remake about trying to do damage to Shinra outside of Midgar by going to key Shinra hotspots and raising havok: Gold Saucer, Corel, Rocket Town, Gongaga, Nibelheim. Visit every reactor and try to blow it up. Make Shinra the main villains and you'll have a much better story. It's no coincidence FFVII's story goes to shit the second you leave Midgar. That's because Shinra raised the stakes constantly as antagonists.

3. Retcon Cait Sith. Cait Sith has no place in such a realistic, gritty environment. If they actually bring Cait Sith into this game, they're completely incompetent. Reeve should be Cait's replacement.

4. The final boss should be Rufus inside the Northern Crater.

Let's see if those people saying "lol nostalgia creeps" will be able to deal with *this*. If you're going to reimagine FFVII, do it right. Sephiroth sucks. Shinra owns.

Faithfulness to the original confirmed.

You're comparing the Chocobo lady to Cait Sith, a party member? Also, the Chocobo lady is pretty dumb. Another caveat, FFVII takes place in a pretty bleak world. Bad comparison.

Yeah no.

I'm not reading all 57 pages of this thread to find out if I'm alone or not, but the combat doesn't look especially great to me, which was basically what I expected when they said they were going to change it.

I suppose this is what Final Fantasy combat is going to be going forward, so whatever. I'll still buy it, but I'm not in love with it.

Edit: 58 now woo
