Off topic: seriously WTF Kojima, you were the worst culprit of spoiling MGSV.

Yes. I mean I played the shit out of the game, but it was never mentioned. Tho, might have been due to the german translation, I don't know. I have played the english version a shit ton as well, but I can't remember how it was handled there. At some point, I realized it, but not sure if it was while I was playing the game or somewhere else.

I mean, in the game she just looks like a normal young dude with a bandana:

I blame the detail lacking graphics!

Does German not have female pronouns? What about her crushing on Cloud?

[That which has a legendary quality to it/Something that is legendary] becomes real.

Nothing wrong with the sentence.

That's why I said it's not literally semantically/grammatically incorrect. You could use it as a noun (like is done as a truncation in videogames with loot systems), but that's extremely irregular, thus it sounds strange.

The Legend Becomes Real is just more appropriate.

Would you say Final Fantasy VII is "a Legend" or "a Legendary?" It's just poor use of words.

Conversely if you're talking about context in which "a Legendary" (You opened a Legendary!" or something) is established like in Diablo or Destiny loot, those sentences could be appropriate. But not in a situation where no such context is established.

It would still be more correctly referred to as "a Legendary item", and used as an adjective, rather than re-appropriated for the lexicon in the context of the games, where "a legendary" has become a noun.

We have, but I don't think/remember that she was ever refereed to as "her" at any point. Always by name.
Doesn't Cloud shot her down or something? So I probably thought he was gay and Cloud not or that he was a huge fan. I can't remember.

will this fantasy be, the Final Fantasy... or will the Final Fantasy only be one of the final fantasies of the universe of final fantasies

massive_edge plz

Fine.I'll get off my fanboy soapbox. It is awkward lol

sorry its always been one of my pet peeves, that the title is called that

out of curiosity how did the final fantasy name even gets its name?

From Wikipedia:

The game was originally going to be called Fighting Fantasy, but the name was changed to Final Fantasy when the development team discovered Fighting Fantasy was the title of a series of single-player roleplay gamebooks.

Square believed that the game might be the last title they ever released, as the company was facing bankruptcy.

Anyone else think the final game might cut some content from the original to "streamline" the experience?

I can see that happening. I'm wondering what parts of the game could be sacrificed without me caring too much too.

Town wise I could see them cutting:

-Fort Condor
-Bone VIllage
-Costa Del Sol
-Gongaga (probably not though due to the focus on Zack in post-FFVII productions)

Some dungeons could probably go too or be heavily abridged and I can see them cutting boss fights. There were some sections of the game where the pacing was weird because you were being thrown continuously into boss fights (Temple of the Ancients, I'm looking at you).

I don't think I mind this too much.

Akitoshi Kawazu said that Square had published a series of RPGs called Deep Dungeon, which abreviation was "DD". When they developed their own RPG with Sakaguchi, they decided to choose a title that would also abreviates to two letters. They chose Fighting Fantasy, which abreviates to "FF" (it's also the max value in hexadecimal values by the way). However, "Fighting Fantasy" was already trademarked in the West so they settled on "Final Fantasy" instead.

Square believed that the game might be the last title they ever released, as the company was facing bankruptcy.

Nah, that part is wrong. It's a wide-spread misconception that even Sakaguchi went out of his way to try to correct, but people still make the mistake. Final Fantasy was never meant to be Square's last title; it was only meant to be Sakaguchi's potential last title. If FF were to bomb, Sakaguchi would give up game development and return to university while Square, Tanaka, Aoki, etc. would continue to prosper as a company. At first Square didn't even want to print many copies of FF because they wanted to keep the money for Tanaka's team, lol.

Apart from a "please look forward to it" Famitsu interview (or two) over the next 10 months, I now expect complete silence until either TGS or PSX 2016. Not even a E3 showing.

This has done a great job at exciting the masses on something Final Fantasy again and now it's time to put total spotlight on FFXV, starting in March.

#TeamJapaneseVoiceActing

Lol whose like me and already decided to turn on Japanese voice acting immediately when we get the game?

There are dozens of us. Dozens!

But yeah Square's been really good as of late at giving us the option so I hope the trend continues.

Yep. And that's perfectly fine.

I'd be okay with it being a separate download from the store as I guess it would be kinda huge to put it on the disc. I know they asked that in a poll sometime ago. But yes, Japanese VO so much!

I don't think I mind this too much.

It's easier for them to develop turn based battles for fights like the Weapons than it is to develop an entire set piece fight in a 3D space where they have to basically treat it like a platformer puzzle, unless you can kill it by swinging at its feet. And those were optional fights!

Going by the trailer and I could be wrong here the battle segments seem to take place in hubs instead of the entire map.

kinda like XIII but more spaced out combine that with the speculated battle system I think a lot of the important fights can be done well.

Yup, i'm expecting something like this
-FFXV = main spotlights for the company, massive presence from March till TGS with the release in Sept/Oct/Nov
-KHIII = small E3 trailer with 2017 confirmation, then a trailer with release date (may '17) at D23 Expo Japan
-FFVIIR = radio silence until PSX '16, trailer reveals 2017 release date; Opening section demo bundled with either DQXI or KHIII

Yep. And that's perfectly fine.

Yup, there's no use drip feeding information and slowly diluting the buzz every month or two. They should now be able to clearly see how they've messed up XV's image with that and how well this approach has worked with VII.
Tabata am cry

A massive trailer at PSX 2016, showing more characters, world, "2017" and people will lose their shit again.

Curious about the Tifa and Scarlet slapping match in this version. I don't see it lasting as long like in the original.

It'll be weird to carry that over with the change in visual presentation - I could see them dropping the minigame aspects and just have her punch Scarlet off the cannon in a cutscene.
