Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

They need to clarify with the quickness. Interviews need to be coming. You can't just drop a bombshell like this and not follow up.

Yep, they can't let this dumpster fire of bad news, PR vagueness and and angry fan letters, posts or petitions continue for too long without getting info out.

I know they can't answer all questions but they must state why they are dooing it like this, there intention, adds and maybe how many games etc.

I'm wondering if this was a time and resources situation? There is no sane way to look at this and think it would be a good idea to make it an episodic release and possibly having fans think you have removed the overworld. I'd rather have a 2020 release than have episodes.

I'm not sure. I mean I think we'd all want some huge FF7 level game in one package but with the way game development has changed it just doesn't seem feasible to have the level of graphics they're targeting with the game as well as being faithful to FF7. I actually didn't play FF7 until a few years ago, and I was still impressed at how much is in the game.

Personally I think there's a lot that can be done with episodic games that hasn't been done yet, and I'm hopeful this project can be innovative in that regard.

You're awesome.

I think the problem is that the game isnt financially viable at 60 dollars.

I was wondering how they were going to do this when they announced the game, now i know.

Holy shit, I got chills. Looks amazing!

Trust me when I say I totally buy that this game is way too insane and big in today's climate, if Square truly goes all out on it, for it to all be placed in a single release and sold for $60. If it means they do the game more justice then, by all means, split it into episodes and release them without holding anything back.

nice mods. be salty. stir shit up more. great

i don't think they're being salty, I think they're just having fun.

It's video games, people. Get a grip. Go outside, look at the airplanes fly above you. I love Final Fantasy as well but not enough to freak out over how SE releases a game I've asked ten years for them to make.

Final Fantasy ain't life.

i'm pretty ok with the news but i thought the title change was perfect :D

s-e deserves a bit of cheek for just how they slipped out the news hehehe

One thing that people keep bringing up is the production cost of making a game like FFVII and how much higher it will be to create the same scale at current standards.

While that is, of course, very true it is also important to remember that for every extra barrier or hurdle created with today's graphical standards there is some tool or process that makes things easier than they were in the 90s.

I hope this news turns out to be a non-issue and they have a really solid plan for releasing it in such a way. Cautiously optimistic at this point...

This is one of the reasons I was worried when it became clear they were not just sticking with some sort of ATB battle system as I am sure a lot of the budget is going into making a solid action RPG battle system.
Which probably means that other parts of the development need to be scaled down or in this case, stretched out.

i wouldnt be so worried if they werent so fucking vague
their PR person should be fired for this shitshow
if theres anything i hate more than anything in videogames its lack of details
it freaks me out when i dont know everything

I think they want to make the whole compilation of FFVII with original game. I'm positive so here's my guess:
Episode 1: Original FFVII story
Episode 2: AC + some shits
Episode 3: DoC + some shits
Episode 0: CC + BC

I get being a tad bit upset over it but it's still not that serious. It's not like we need details so so very soon because there's a short amount of time before we can decide if we'll "Day One" it. The game may not be out for at least another year and a half. Details will come out gradually with time.

In the meantime, please live your lives, Christ. I thought the outrage was funny but it's been two hours and y'all need to chill.

ive been lurking as a junior for over a year and I've never been so compelled to step into a conversation on GAF til now

I fear the game will lose any sense of adventure it might have were it to be split into yearly episodes. :(
I was thinking that too but it could go both ways...

One reason I think a lot of us remember FF VII as an 'adventure' was because we played it when we were young and probably spent a lot time playing it... I mean, I know a lot of people that when they played it back at release for the 1st time, they spent a solid month or more playing it. A big part of why it was such an adventure was also because we may be artificially stretched it out over a long period.

In a weird way, I could prefer that Midgar as an experience is going to be stretched out longer, and that we'll have more time (and develop resources, maybe...) for each area... more time spent enjoying each area, artificially being forced to savour each area as we anticipate the next. In that sort of way, almost like how it occurred in the Mass Effect trilogy, the delays could build up the sense of adventure and the attachment to each area..

A lot of us play games differently now... look how many people are already halfway through the PS4 port =p The game can actually be quite the short adventure and over in just a weekend. The game being compressed into 1 remake title could have ended up feeling more brief than we remembered. That same sort of 'adventure' wasn't guaranteed, were the game released as 1 title. In contrast, consider something like Mass Effect trilogy, and how those long breaks between games kinda actually helped increase our attachment and 'sense of adventure' to it.

So in a way, FF VII-R being a 3-4 year thing rather than just 1 power gaming weekend could benefit it. I don't disagree with where you're coming from at all. I do share that concern. I just think there could also be some room for optimism, too. And, that's in addition to if splitting the game into 3-4 games also results in better exploration, bigger maps, etc (a big 'if' of course that could go either way).

Who knows at this point but I think there are just as many reasons to be optimistic as pessimistic. And, I mean, either way at least we're still getting the game. The game is probably getting done the only way it could be done for a company like S-E. So I'm mostly still optimistic because I think there's still a lot of potential benefit to developing it this way and also that we're at least getting it. I mean, a somewhat average FF VII remake is still pretty cool IMO hehe

It would be nice if they simply cut the episodes along the lines of the disc changes but who knows. I have faith they'll do this right. If not oh well. Its literally endgame that this thing even exists.

i don't think they're being salty, I think they're just having fun.

I know. It's just kind of getting annoying when they keep changing titles to be funny or witty and they can't just let something be. Like there was no reason to make that title change.

I shouldn't care lol my bad. I can't wait for more info anyway!

Yeah, you can just be vague with something like this specially since we know FF7.

Making it into a multi game series raises alot of questions:
Whats in one episode?
How much will be covered?
How many episodes?
Open world or linear?
Will the entire remake stretch beyond the original game like have advent children playable?
Will parts from the other media like before and or crisis core be playable withen the remake?

Its not good.

It was probably a stupid, untimely leak.

Release as
Final Fantasy VII Remake: Disc 1
Final Fantasy VII Remake: Disc 2
Final Fantasy VII Remake: Disc 3

with the disc change splash screens as the box art and all will be forgiven.

Also, I'm not really mad. Still think it will be rad to see FF7 reimagined in a modern game engine with current game design sensibilities.

Some people got too much rose tint on them glasses

My only hopes are that I can still explore the world with the highwind. I can still breed chocobos to get their special abilities on the world. I can still find secret areas that are completely optional. I can still revisit previous towns and cities just to hang out and talk to people meaninglessly.

I already know the story, everything. All I want from this remake is not to experience the story all over again, but to explore the world in HD remake.

I'm so sorry everyone. I had to bail on this thread for obvious reasons.

I'm going to bed to try and calm down. Good night.

I'd get in trouble, sadly.

Personal opinion though is that you guys are overreacting. *shrug*

Would have taken a "You have nothing to really worry about." This still seems like a thing that could just differ on importance among groups of people. Episodic probably won't cut it for the audience this was intended for.

Just want to say that the Aerith's theme that plays for the theme you get for purchasing the PC port released yesterday is amazing.

Wasn't disk 3 mostly there because of the FMVs? Wouldn't be a great way to split the games up length wise.

That's what I've been telling people for hours, lol.

In fact I should probably lay off, since I've been repeating the same message ad nauseum. But for whatever reason it really irritates me.

Lol

My guess is that the game won't be open world at all now.

Probably like FFX and FFXIII

They probably don't want to have to deal with the scaling issues of giant characters next to small cities. Ah well it would have been glorious to have an old school RPG in state of the art graphics.

Thanks anyway, do you work at Sony, Square or just know people in Japan if you don't mind me asking?

I just remember you talking about TLG happening and info about FFXV

Hopefully the info Kagari said is coming will help alleviate worries.

This may have already been said but,
There are two ways this could end up:

1) 3 parts like 3 discs. Overworld and progression wouldn't be affected. Just like you could do everything by disc 3 in the original release, you can do the same here. Pretty faithful remake, not much is left out, etc.

2) The game becomes "Highlights of FF7". We get an on-rails, stripped-down experience where only the main stuff happens. E.g. you finish Midgar, and it shows a cutscene of the "world map" and then you're taken to the next place.
And Genesis is added.
FUCK Genesis

PLZ be option 1

Could someone link me (or PM) the direct feed trailer? Tried finding it but I'm having to wade through alot of hyperbolic overreactions...

EDIT: nvm found it.

if according to the insiders we really are overreacting then it cant be Option 2

alright everyone(including me) calm down

taken from the other thread

Quick stuff from interviews

-they made multi-release since they would have to cut stuff out if they made it in one game. The detail of the game will be so dense, and you will be able to go to various locations within Midgar that you couldn't go before.
-there will be some stuff that has to be cut, but there will be lots of stuff added. overall volume will be big
-They are working with various companies outside, including CC2
-The battle system is real-time, action feel. The degree of action will be "Dissidia > Kingdom Hearts> FF7 remake" It will be more tactical.
-Although it's action style, it has ATB as well.
-You can control other party members, but you can keep control one if you want
-3 party members at a time like the original

I won't until they can confirm my concerns.

heres more i stole

Nomura: VII in one work would turn into a digest. We judged that the remake must be full volume, so we decided to make [VII] multi-part.

Nomura: A subtitle for the VII remake would give the impression of a spin-off or sequel, so they avoided using one.

Nomura: If we make the characters reall, they'll look like real people and no one will recognize them, so we're aiming to balance.

Nomura: Advent Children models are too old, so they've been refining the graphics and balancing reality and deformation.

Aside from the CG shown at the beginning of the trailer, everything is in real-time. You can alter the camera angle during the train scene.

Cloud's appearance has to partially to do with the lighting and his pale skin. Nojima had said Cloud's sickly appearance is brilliant.

Cross-dressing scene will be included. Nomura has yet to work on the design, however.

NMR: VIIR is completely different from Crisis Core's battle system. Not as actiony as Dissidia Arcade or KH but closer to that style.

NMR: VIIR has ATB, but it's not the type where you wait for the gauge to fill up and then attack. It is connected with the action system.

NMR: 3-member parties, all interchangeable and playable. You don't have to change characters if you don't want.

NMR: The battle speed they're aiming for is Dissidia Arcade's. The battles we saw in the trailer are kind of like a standard to aim for.

Nomura went over the trailer so many times and doubted if it'd be all right to show, but the reaction he received has relieved him.

also in interviews(info is somewhere on last pages of other thread) they confirmed they want to add new stuff and surprises so its not the same experience to even surprise us old school fans

Have they confirmed a PC release or not yet?

I wonder if they'll have mods. Maybe someone can hack together a traditional combat mode. Probably too much work, but maybe someone would if possible.
