Pesmerk here! I've been afraid to tackle Gilgamesh but I'm ready now, but none of my hyper powered friends are built for it. Oh whell.
Going to try this:
Refia: DC
Firion: Wind, Light, + Water Blade
Ling: Nothing
Cecil: Nothing
Rain: Fire, Earth, Lightning
Friend: Ice
People thinking he is getting easier is because they triggered the MAG/ATK debuffs. People thinking he got harder is because they didn't trigger the MAG/ATK debuffs.
Did you clear the fire debuff? That'll probably be the major difference in 1st and 3rd turn.
Tried ELT again, was surviving but dealing almost no damage for about 6/7 turns, then he just OSed 3 units, and he definitely had all debuff + I had all buff applied. (with a Marie's Barfiraga!)
He's bugging and doing double plume or something, that can't be right, and we can't check thing everything go so fast and damage numbers are delayed compared to the animations.
Oh and I'm debuffing with Ramza, too.
What weapon do you have on Rain?
I killed Gilgamesh last night so maybe I can give you some reminders. You probably don't need these notes but hey it's fresh on my mind.
- Don't forget to Dispel when necessary.
- You don't need to seal Lightning until he is at 50%. Also remember that Lightning weapons and Lightning (the unit, her attacks are physical) do not work.
- His water attack is single target, and I find that you can generally tough it out (unless your unit is weak to water), so you don't have to seal it.
- ... because if you seal it 3 times, he wastes a turn doing "Break" (a buff)
I swear some of the debuffs aren't activating even if the icon shows up. It's the only explanation I have at this point. Once my second Flame Mail is done, I'm bringing Rain and spamming debuffs with him and Ling every single turn.
Great pointers actually, I had not read why Lightning would not work until now. I was going to rely on a hammer for that element(rain). Back to the drawing board there.
Water fucked up the Noctis i had with me. Does it also not debuff the targets abilities?
Also i have no idea what you mean by seal it three times
At this point, after trying so many times now, that I wonder if the game is expiring buffs/debuffs between your turn and Ifrit's turn.
On the last run, I was checking full buffs and debuffs on the status screen every single turn. I'm still trying to figure out what expired and caused an immediate wipe.
I have it on first turn and he still wipe me. I have rain and friend Noctis to make sure of it.ATK break is the secret
must be on at all times
you will want MAG reduction but you can slack a bit if you have either focus, barfira or mag break up
his physical attacks are whats the worst. Def buffs and attack breaks must be maintained at all costs
Great.Ok, well.... the Reddit mods are now saying that the seemingly weird buff/debuff behavior is "working as intended".
Per the mods there, player buffs tick down 1 turn at the start of their turn, while enemy debuffs tick down 1 turn at the start of their turn.
This means that a debuff can be shown as "up" on your turn, and then expires at the start of Ifrit's turn, causing a total wipe.
So, pretty much you have to debuff every single turn, even if the debuffs appear over Ifrit, because there's no guarantee (because you can't see how many turns are left on the debuff) that the debuff will be still valid on Ifrit's next turn.
I think I need some Alka Seltzer.

Please do a video. With atk break (better if its ramza's or ling's) and embolden, really ifrit should not be a problem.
Its the vulcan attack that breaks all the pace, and theres times that ifrit does it 3 times the same round.
Im not using batshit insane equip, you know i dont like it during trials, and with all buffs and debuffs on, ifrit only does 1000 damage with vulcan.
Poor White Knight Noel - dude has it rough as my tank, starting out with -50% fire resist.
Good thing I got about 10 Cecils today.
I'm in a weird mood and just spend my remaining 35,000 lapis on this banner.
Got 1 rainbow, and it was a Queen. I'm hating life right now.
Now I'm broke, but I do have loads of TMs which made me want to keep pulling. So,whatever.. fml kinda sorta.

So Bushido freedom just wiped my full health party.About water: Ah, sorry. I ran my setup with two tanks (Cecil + Snow), so the water attack always went to him and I didn't notice the debuff.
After you attack him with water element for the third time, he wastes a turn doing the buff instead of his usual attacks. This only happens once per battle, though, so you may find it valuable to control when this happens.

Am i supposed to see it trigger and block with everyone but the threshold breaker?
Is Minfilia beefier than Cerius, she's the one that dies all the time when Ifrit decides to start spamming vulcan
so what you want to do is
slowly build up to each threshold
If he buffs himself even better since you know he wont take as much damage
Before crossing a threshold have Golem up, Buff up, and guard with any weak units

By golem you mean the esper summon? would a cecil limit break work too? Its level 10+
Is cactaur dunes next weekend?
Making all your units immune to paralysis is very important
