I mean, I couldn't even get the config screen to pull up on my Vita. I booted up FFVII and waited til I could control Cloud, then held the touchscreen and it doesn't seem to pull it up. I could be doing it wrong since I've never tried it before, but I copied what the Youtube vid I watched did and it seemed to be the right way.
I agree, OP. The game is just as fun today as it's always been.
But I'm in the strange camp that believes "once a good game, always a good game".
Hold on! DooM isn't supposed to look pretty, and it does looks good, for my eyes, that is.![]()
Poor comparison don'tcha think? Regardless of what side of the fence you sit under on visual preferences those are full FF7 environments at their native resolution, while the FF6 shots are in-game and blown up. I was looking for a place to fetch some FF7 shots to blow up in a similar fashion but the only quality ones I could find had terrible colour banding, so that wouldn't do either. 7 has some great environmental design though so I wouldn't take that away from it.
Did Squeenix ever fix the atrocious english translation?
I know it was fixed in the disc-based PC release way back in the day because I happen to have that, but I don't know if that was Square or Eidos who did so.
Aged really well = Final Fantasy has not development much in years
FFXII really showed the way forward so for me the older games really do feel like old games.
The gameplay is exactly why I think this game is terrible. The gameplay is still solid. The backgrounds still look good, enough detail to paint a very vivid world. The models are the sore spot but I can overlook them, you typically don't see them up close too much.
God damnit. His arms look like paint brushes.
The PC version has a fixed translation?! Huh I might actually buy it then.
Press and hold the PS button : )
Because that matters in a game where the only control you have over your characters is command prompts. It's still one of the quickest battle systems in the series.

Graphics have undoubtedly not aged well, but everything is still definitely as solid as can be.
Just to temper your expectations, we're really only talking about the more egregious grammar errors ("You're a turks," "This guy are sick," etc.). The translation was never redone, as far as I know.
Got progressively better as the gen progressed, IMO. Absolutely wonderful art directors/background designers.
FFVIII has my favorite pre-rendered backgrounds.

FFIX's were stunning, too.
FFVII's are unique, though. Each town has its own charm and so much went into tiny details. Just a joy to explore and look around.
I wouldn't be opposed to a next gen FF with world-maps and HD pre-rendered backgrounds.I wonder if it would be cheaper than what they have been doing with FFXIII and XV?

God damnit.
It matters because it makes the game nauseating to look at. 15 fps is barely enough to convince your brain that you're looking at a moving image, rather than a collection of still pictures.
It's unfortunate that you have to play the rest of FF8 to experience the great environment BGs. But at least you have analog control in that one.
I see this thread has already turned into a "My FF can beat up your FF" contest.
Wasn't sure given how many people acted like raziel post proved something, but seems like my memory isn't that bad after all. Those pre-rendered backgrounds look nice and all, but those pictures are zoomed out quite a bit. That's not what it will look like when playing the game and you guys know it.
Analog stick not working is yucky
Imagine FF7 with FF12's battle system.
Hyperbole really is NeoGAF's language.
Its not even the best FF game
FFVI is the best in the series
7 on a PS3.I've never played a Final Fantasy game. Starting to get interested in JRPG's after playing some Pokemon and Fire Emblem: Awakening. I downloaded FF VII a while back from PSN. For now I just have a PS3, hooked up to an HDTV. I'd like to play an FF game at some point here. Also I plan to get a Vita sometime in 2014.
Should I:
1) Play VII on my PS3?
2) Play VII on my Vita when I get it?
3) Play a different FF as my first. Maybe the X/X-2 remaster? I also have a 3DS so I could play one of the DS remakes.
When I play the backgrounds don't look that sharp and beautiful by any means. Is it because I'm playing them in full screen?
If it is, holy shit, I have to play them like that.
