You need to read and stop trying to be right. Choose whatever you like, just don't think because its your choice it's the best, its only the one you prefer. Performance wise the PS3 version is more than competent, I've yet to experience any performance problems.

So you are saying the PC version of ARR is not the best?

lmwzg9u.jpg

So "more than competent" is your way to say "best"?

Someone asked what was better the PC or the PS3 version, or if there was any disadvantage on the PS3 version over the PC version. I just stated the obvious differences and you are calling me out for giving what is an objective answer?

Why don't you stop putting my opinion down instead, as if it was some sort of lie that the PC version is a superior in many ways to the PS3, a console build from 2006, I mean seriously?

I'm not belittling anyone from playing on PS3, but if people which is better between the two there is only one answer, so stop being delusional please.

Wow. /ignorelist

Best is subjective. Image Quality and FPS and stuff is not everything. For some people, comfort and convenience are more important and so those being greater on PS3 for them makes that the "best" for them.

If Image Quality and FPS is more important to you, then PC one is "best".

In almost all cases, when someone says "best", it really just means what they prefer.

No need to get snippy at each other over preferences.

FATE? That wasn't what I expected. I hope this means we will see more FATE events with loot.

All of the people crying last week about this, thinking Lightning was going to take over the game or something need their heads examined. It' like saying because Hatsune Miku was singing on the ships in PSO2 they can be considered Project Diva games. :P

The need to wait for the animation to be over before being able to do another action with an animation seems perfectly fine to me. Now calling them instant is probably wrong, they probably should put two things for each skill : the cast time, and the animation/action time.

You mean you want animation lock back ?.. bahh no thanks.

I don't see a lot of talk on the delay in combat actions the game has. The "instant" abilities are typically not instant at all. Most need 0.5-1 second before they activate. Whether they prioritize animations, like SWTOR did, I'm not sure. I just know that abilities they clearly have labeled as "instant' are not.

This is because the action doesn't take effect until the animation has played out, which is what we were talking about a few pages back and is a bizarre choice, of course in terms of reality it makes sense but I guess its what we/you are used to.

I like the idea, particularly in the case of cures, I'm rather indiferent in most other cases at least for now, since we don't know how it will play it high end content.

Yup get back to us when you get healed see the sparkly animation and die before it finishes :P

Neg. With all things equal and and removed from variable conditions then the PC version is objectively the better version. The fact every part of the experience that is on the PS3 (playing it on a TV from your couch with a controller with the same settings that a PS3 would run) is obtainable on the PC, as well as more options on top of that is part of what makes it that way..

Have said this several times, but being objectively better does not make it the correct choice for everyone since there are outside conditions that can change what is more ideal for an individual person. Also noting that it is objectively better does not mean you are being an elitist, or snippy. I'm moving on now since I have just been repeating the same statement in different ways hoping it would stick. I guess that statement can be seen as snippy, sorry for that.

Neg, this is all I thought it was going to be all along, but my response still is:

Lightning, pls go

nice find! goddamn dat art

edit: hmm they're not wallpaper size though... oh well
They are wallpaper size originally, just open the theme file, it's really just a rar file and all the wallpapers are there at 1924x1200, you don't really need anyone "extracting" them ;P

I am one of the few people who loved FFXIII (even considering it one of the top games this generation) and really like Lightning.

Still, I hate that she is in FFXIV and I hate that there will be people in Lightning's and Snow's outfits running around Eorzea.

I do understand what you are saying. But in real world situations, not all things are equal for all people. And so "best" here is subjective.

We can sit here and yell at people that PC version looks better, runs better, and if you really wanted, you could play it with the same comfort as you would on a PS3 but we wouldn't be considering the circumstances of other people. It may simply not be possible for them. And so "best" means nothing to that person.

It just reminds me of arguments about handheld vs home console versions. I just think it's impossible to say one is "best" in real world situations. If you remove all variables then sure, but that's not a realistic or useful assessment of anything.

PC version is definitely my preference. But I also completely understand people who choose the PS3 version. Telling each other that the version we choose is more "best" than the other version really has no value and just caused unnecessary tension.

Is 6369 people a decent sample size considering 14 beta population thus far?

I look forward to our Miqo'te overlords:

Could have sworn I saw a higher percentage of Lalafells while playing than the current survey results though.

The value exists in answering someone who asks what is the better version. There is an objective answer, and that is all I have tried to provide, along with an explanation of why. I am not telling people that they are wrong for whatever version they decide to play on, and have constantly mentioned how it being the best doesn't make it the ideal option for everyone. This isn't me looking down on that other option, or arguing with people that plan on playing on the ps3.

Moving onto the bad part of your post...

There are over a million beta accounts so I wouldn't call it a representative sample size just like I wouldn't call anything posted on the beta forums representative of the playerbase at large. However, since miqo'te are clearly the master race it's best you just prepare for your feline overlords regardless of what an unofficial survey says.

Another dev post (by one of the localization team members) about the whole spell naming system in the game:

http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Te...t-not-in-the-EN-version?p=1078029#post1078029

Pretty long post, so I won't quote.

I still disagree with how they are doing it because it doesn't really make it simpler like they think it will. Going from Fire to Fire II (in previous FF games and in other games with a similar numbering system) implies it's the same spell, but an increase in power. But that isn't the case here because the tier II spells in ARR are AOEs and less powerful than the first one. Except for Cure II which is single target and more powerful than Cure I (although less MP efficient).

And I don't think the Materia system would even need to use the -ra, -aga, -ja way of naming. Just numbers would be fine for that.

I'll adapt no matter what, but I do find it odd the different language versions have different spell names. Might lead to some confusion later.

Oh god that artwork is so pretty. ;_; Got the physical limited edition pre-ordered, now I just need to buy a DVD drive for my computer. Hope I can join in on the fun with a few gaffers when the game launches!

Aside from being the lead character in XII, why does Lightning get all the hate she does? I found her design cool with zero personality, but felt she was far from the worst thing about XII.

For me it's not about "because Lightning is in ARR" it's about "because individual established character from a completely unrelated* world/story is in ARR." I'd be reacting the same way if Tifa or Bartz or Terra or Squall showed up in ARR.

*(until now, apparently... surprise lol!
ugh /gag
)

So, in closing, pls go

In that case polls for anything would never be accurate unless everybody participates, which is impossible. That's what a 'sample' is for.

Even if her being the lead character of XII was the only bad point, then that would be enough to not want to see her anymore. It's also the fact that we are/have gotten 2 more games in that series, and she has been propped up by Square as something great. Also, while I am okay with the normal level of fanservice in the game, having direct characters pulled in their original forms from their original game leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I mean even in FFT, the Cloud wasn't the exact Cloud from FF7 pulled from the FF7 world, and part of the canon of that character.

Also I am trying to bring a bit of humor back to the thread

If that is the same thing I read already, then it doesn't help his point that it is only the English version of the game that is doing the naming this way.

Not true. It's all about diversifying your sample.

The sample for this survey is (mainly) the English-speaking beta forum prowlers thus it is unlikely that non-English-speaking players have responded and it is unlikely that people planning to play but who don't closely follow daily conversation about the game (and thus would not see the survey) would be included in the sample, either.

This survey is probably very representative of its sample, sure, but the sample in question does not appear to be inclusive of some rather large demographics.

So do you disagree with what he said, or the way he said it? Just trying to find out what it takes to get on people's ignorelist, and hard enough to be announced.

It only takes to be an elitist that when given the choice prefers the version that performs better and gives such answers to people who ask.

But I'm not going to aboard this topic anymore since saying something that doesn't preaches all the amazing benefits of the PS3, makes me being called anti-consoles and elitist.

It's for those 13 year old, english speakers, that would get confused by two similar words ending on -ga and -ja.

Ahh, I can totally see this, great points guys. I guess I was thinking of her in XIII only. Story wise they'll probably go with dimension rift/amnesia/magic, so it should be fairly painless. For me seeing hundreds of people dressed as lightning will be a more annoying.

Seeing thousands of people dressed as Lightning is no different than thousands of people dressed in the same AF.

I haven't played the beta really or looked up any information, but I want to be a Bard, what class do I go (assuming it's like FFXI and it's a second class)? I'm really trying to go into this blind. I want the MMO magic back.

One was designed with Eorzia in mind, not the other.

I really don't have anything abgainst old ff character appearing in ffxiv, but I would prefer it to be limited to instance content, and limiting gear to gear going well with the rest of the world ( in the ff13/ARR case, i'm not fond of the costume choice they made, but most weapon seems ok to me ).

Looks no worse than some of the races starting looks to me.

I guess we just disagree.

I like Lightning a lot but that outfit doesn't fit in Eorzea. It was designed in a different game with a different setting. The other outfits were specifically designed for Eorzea.

I wasn't trying to change minds, just state my opinion. :) I don't see how her outfit doesn't fit when we have no idea the craziness we'll be wearing. Not to mention future seasonal event wear. =)

There was some talk about voice chat for PS3 users a few pages back. Just FYI, Teamspeak has a smartphone app so that should prove helpful for PS3 users :)

The wallpapers are great, thanks for posting!

I have a question though, if I have an EU copy of the game and a UK Square Enix account that I have used since Phase 3, would I be able to pay for billing in Canada shortly after the game has been released? Or will I have to make a Canadian account to do so?

I've yet to use my digital CE pre-order code from gmg, so I'd like to know before Phase 4 starts.
