Just saw this on the beta forums

Please make it so you can obtain rare items and better rewards. | No Plans to Address | Fundamentally the rewards for FATE will be experience points and seals. This is content where adventurers can meet and adventure together quickly, and we have no intention of making them camp for rewards. However, we are looking into having other kinds of rewards for high-level, high difficulty FATEs.

Looks like the lightning FATE might be one of a kind in terms of drops.

Honestly, that's fine. Grand company seals are a good stand in for drops, since they can be used for equipment with unique traits at the Grand Companies.

During the beta for example, I was able to buy an item that significantly sped up Spiritbound, which of course would've made converting items into materia much easier.

Course, that equipment usually couldn't be dyed, and at least the stuff I bought didn't have Materia Slots. So, it wasn't the best possible equipment, but still a nice reward for doing fated.

Besides, there's no dashing for a treasure chest this way.

The Roegadyn women are too damn thin.

This has nothing to do with the conversation up to this point. I just wanted to say it.

This is pretty cool. Only 6 days left until the character creator demo!

So, I think the Windows Theme may be busted for some people due to what I presume where Japanese characters in a wav file. I went ahead and pulled out the assets and re-created a new themepack file that actually works.

Not sure the best service for hosting the file, but if anyone wants to point me to it (or if you can take care of it and just want me to email it to you ya'can PM me) I'll share it.

DPS? Paaaaass.

I know, kinda disappointing right.

BRD can equip some Conjurer (healer) skills, but I don't know how effective they can supplement healing. The best thing they can pull from CNJ is Stoneskin, I've been told, which can support party longevity apparently well.

Been trying to triangulate BRD's efficacy as support role for awhile now, but I'm waiting till Phase 4 to actually begin play myself. Think I'll just be jumping in with CNJ to get some of its levels out of the way, then make the final decision whether to run with Archer -> Bard or not.

Otherwise I'll just run around, look at pretty things, and craft/gather :3

Shit you're right! EXCITE

So, I recall crafting being pretty epically useful in 11, any new or thoughts on that in 14? It was probably my favorite aspect of the gameplay. WIll being a maxed out armorsmith be akin to a blacksmith in 11? At a profit/prestige level?

It's still useful and more fun than crafting in XI was. It's minigame driven, not just dice rolls like in XI.

Nope, not even close!

Aw, that's a little disappointing. Still, if there's profit in it I'll probably jump on board anyway. Most recently for me, GW2's crafting system left a lot to be desired.

Sure, there will be profit, but since leveling crafts is easier in XIV than in XI there will be more crafters thus more competition for market space. Still, at "worst" you profit by saving yourself money by making, repairing, and melding your own gear. The thing about crafting in ARR is that "non-consumable goods" like gear are actually.... consumable goods because the materia system. If 1.x (and what we've seen of beta) is anything to go by there will be a constant demand for crafted gear in general (at level cap).

I have a question regarding the account system:

If I have an unused collectors edition of the original release, can i use it to create an account for ARR? Will i get the legacy status or whatever it was given to those who had the old version?

Yes you can create an account. No to legacy status as that was awarded for paying for 3 months of gametime during the legacy promotion.

Right now, since we haven't seen what the new crafting recipes are, and going by tests of the best 1.x crafted gear and Materia melding, it has been concluded that as of beta phase 3, gear crafting is basically worthless.

However, there's still hope that a sizeable amount of recipes for better gear than the one crafted in 1.x will be added. and make crafting relevant.

I'm of the believe that HQ items with 4-5 Materias should rival and best any blue dungeon gear, and just be below the 24-man raids gear.

If that's not the case, then the only profitable crafts will be Alchemy and Cooking for consumables, and after the 2.1 update, Woodworking and whatever makes housing items.

You will be able to use the unused old 1.0 game account keys to create an ARR account and enable your PC service option which will mean you will get the new ARR PC client as a free download and don't need to buy a new copy of the PC version.

However, you will not get legacy status because you had to have a paid subscription active last year during a certain period of time to get that perk.

I see. Thanks.

DPS? Paaaaass.

It's not entirely DPS. If you played FFXI, it seems to be closer to COR. You offer support to the party, but you also DPS alongside that support. BRD was one of my favorite jobs in FFXI, so I'm a little disappointed with how it works in FFXIV, but I also played COR to 75 (the cap when I stopped playing XI), so as long as we eventually get a straight support class I'm okay with it.

Hey now. Knowing that playing the game without a keyboard and mouse will always be inferior doesn't make you an elitist. It makes you honest. Choosing to play the inferior way for comfort is fine, but I would hope that all end game free companies will screen people out that do so.

It wasn't just that. He made some comments before that which were bordering on elitist.

Been trying to triangulate BRD's efficacy as support role for awhile now, but I'm waiting till Phase 4 to actually begin play myself. Think I'll just be jumping in with CNJ to get some of its levels out of the way, then make the final decision whether to run with Archer -> Bard or not.

A lot of people have been talking about figuring out which job they want to level. You can level every single class and job right? SE didn't change that at some point over the course of the beta?

I just don't understand why people are debating when you can do everything and essentially change on the fly at any point.

You mean there will be a constant need for crafters, or a constant supply of materia? From my brief play time with the beta, it seemed as though crafting wasn't as important or lucrative as it was in FFXI or even 1.0.

I meant demand, thanks for the catch.

Crafting is not profitable at low levels in ARR. You level so fast and get free gear from quests and dungeons that there's no need to craft or buy crafted gear, until maybe later when you're leveling an alt job that can't wear the gear you have collected.

Crafting at low levels wasn't profitable in 1.x either (you could come out ahead on some recipes, but not enough to be really called "profitable").

Crafting is lucrative when HQ gear and materia start to matter which will be at level cap for most people (or for people making twink gear). Khrno is exaggerating the "worthlesness" of crafted gear, especially for new players who aren't sitting pretty with militia and/or darklight gear and primal/relic weapons and will need gear to kick-start their endgame pursuits (this is where crafted gear with materia come in and supplement your AF/GC gear, etc.).

Alright, so against my better judgment, I may consider trying out ARR.

I know its quite different, but for those who played TERA, what can I expect? And how does the guild system works in this game, because TERA's was crap and B&S is so small in member capacity its basically useless.

Compared to TERA...

More emphasis on story, story is better

Crafting is a lot more interesting and meaningful

Combat is a lot different, more like a hybrid of 1.x and WoW (tab target, not action combat, however does have positioning and some degree of "get out of the red circle" which will feel familiar).

Better class balance, at least as far as PvE goes (beta has not included PvP yet, however it has been confirmed that in ARR there will actually be sets of skills specifically for PvP so as not to disrupt PvE balance and create a constant spiral of buff/nerf misery).

No elins :(

But catgirls!

Monster design is not as interesting as TERA. But world design is very pretty and detailed.

Guild system is Free Company in ARR. They allow 512 members. Ranks can be set to allow members to be able to do things like invite more members, access the guild bank, and so-on. FC logo is customized via in-game options not like in TERA where you can upload an image. When naming your FC you can give it a decently long title but you then have to pick a "tag" which is beside your members' names like <<THIS>> and that tag is limited to 5 characters.

edit: more...

Long-distance travel is much quicker, you can teleport to any aether node you've been to before but it costs you some money proportional to the distance to the destination (basically like the Atlas in TERA, but costs gold to use it)

A full party size is 8 not 5 like in TERA. Most "leveling" content is designed for parties of 4. Endgame content will come in 4, 8, and 24 player flavors.

(btw how is it going in TERA, I have been working on my PS3 backlog like a madman lately and haven't been on lately!)

Anyone know what's going on with the S-E Online Store?

I'm 100% sure I placed a pre-order for the Before Meteor Blu-Ray soundtrack, but I can't find any traces of that purchase in my e-mails.

The online store doesn't seem to have an account system for purchase history either =/.

I quit. RIP Believe in Tempest Reach. The game has grown so stale and boring it wasn't worth it anymore.

3000 hours of playtime in my Priest lol.

I see. Well, I might give it a try then. I do hope it last longer than TERA did in terms of GAF's attention to it.

Game has VoIP or is there something like a mumble for the guild? And I hope there is a GAF guild for launch >.<

The combat is much worse (obviously), but pretty much everything else is much better.

There aren't any delicious Elins, but the catgirls are of a high quality.

The current story goes that voices are selectable in the client, so you can switch between EN and JP without modding the client.

Game will not have built-in VOIP.

Ultros will be where most new players are going. Robokittyzilla and some others are organizing a FC over there. Myself and others, as players of 1.x, will be sticking with our group on the legacy server Sargatanas--similar to how Believe was in TERA, this group took in a lot of non-GAF members and become something that isn't really "the GAF guild" anymore but we will still be open to GAF members who want to play on a legacy server and aren't afraid of legacy cooties. New players are free to create characters on either new or old (legacy) servers so it's up to you.

There were rumblings about an EU GAF FC on one of the "official" EU servers, too, but dunno if anyone is actually organizing that yet or not.

Legacy cooties? lol

Any advantage/disadvantage of playing on the old server vs the new one?

It sounds like you expect everyone to actually do everything in the game. Speaking for myself, I am fairly certain I will not be bringing every class to cap. I'm debating where to start because we know there will be a road from 1-50 for your first class, called the "Main Story". The class I choose to travel with on that road may very well be the only one I bring to cap, and play with endgame.

SO: I want to make sure that whatever I choose will be FUN for me and USEFUL for my friends ad infinitum.

Any advantage/disadvantage of playing on the old server vs the new one?

The advantage of the old servers is the economy, the disadvantage is the economy.
The advantage of the new servers is the economy, the disadvantage is the economy.

I'm being serious here.

Oh boy here we go again :D

Basically it boils down to this... starting on a new server means everyone else starts where you are. There is no supply of high level items. There is no established market. There is no high level player to help you (or grief you). You get that new MMO smell for a few weeks. You get the chance to make some money early on before everyone and their cat catches up on crafting and gathering.

Starting on a legacy world is going to be basically like starting any other MMO a few months after launch. Players will have jobs at level cap, there will be supply of high level items, stuff will be easy to find. There will be lots of established communities looking to recruit members and players knowledgeable about the old version of the game and how it has evolved.

The leveling dungeons actually force level sync caps so legacy players will still be doing the low level content with new players as they work through the main story quests and class quests.

And then month after launch it won't hardly make any difference since new players will be at level cap with at least 1 job by then, so unless the new MMO feel is critical to you then you may want to consider the long term implications of your choice of server over the immediate ones. At least for the 6 months after launch until they allow server transfers.
