I need to lvl up FAST. My character does not look good in this puglist armor, I'm not a fan of bright colors.

What the fuck is wrong with their login system ?

Received a code, registered it...but now I can't access my account, says invalid password.

I think I have similar problem.

Tried to log into account management and it keeps telling me my ID/password is invalid. But I'm 99% sure both the ID and the password are correct. I mean I logged into the account just a few weeks ago.

So I just wanted to reset my password and guess what? I can't remember the answer to my security question. Lucky me.

I'm still having login issues. I tried logging in a moment ago and I just got the cursor and the loading music over a black screen. I waited for about 5 minutes and nothing happened.

I played for about 20 mins and that is all I will be able to handle. Yikes. Modern MMO's like Neverwinter and Guild Wars 2 throw you into the action right away, you are fighting, getting XP and new weapons/skills within minutes, this starts with several very slow paced cutscenes with no voice over, and then the first quest is to walk forward and talk to the next quest giver like its still 2004.

I knew before it even began that they didn't learn enough from XI when I had to enter two separate redemption codes, then I accidentally clicked Create new account, but when i realized my email was already tied to an ancient account, there was no way to go back to the other option, I had to reboot.

It's a story focused MMORPG, and the way the starting quests act as a tutorial is done very well. If you don't like having a story in a game then why are you even trying this for?

Main story quests do have voiced cutscenes, but not for the beta tho.

Alright, here we go. I basically tried to re-create my FFXI character, even in name, ah.

Feels... very different from XI. A lot of tutorials, quest with directions and icons. FFXI was basically the DS of the mmorpg in that sense, eh.

dang zero luck so far on a NA ps3 beta code seems to be pretty rare lol.

Still not sure how I got my ps3 Beta code. I didn't have a FF13 Voucher at all. Just filled out the website form over a week ago, and even skipped the survey afterward.

I also downloaded that video, but that was tied to another email account.

While you might consider that a negative, I actually found the story-oriented introduction nice because it was distinct from the rest of the pack. There is very little care to be had for story in MMOs precisely because everyone seems to be in a huge rush to kill the next thing. ARR seems to put more weight on its story, and the 'old JRPG' style of the characters talking with dialogue boxes to go through engages more than the huge blocks of text from other MMOs.

The need for instant satisfaction is a negative in my opinion.

I'd say it's all about execution. If you ask me, ARR takes far too long to actually get into the game. I really don't need an excessive amount of fetch quests to show me the world. Just point me in the general direction of stuff.

That said, on the other end, only Guild Wars 2 handles the "Jump in and play" aspect well. Neverwinter I feel doesn't. :\

Just to make sure: the PS3 key still works even if I use the PC key, right?

As far as I know, accounts are identical. That additional key for PS3 users is just so you can download the client.

Ahah, yeah.

It had its charm and i had fun times, but I'm glad this XIV is different, I would have dropped it faster than an hot potato if it was another XI.

For the most part, I agree. However, I think they should have brought over a few really cool things like... skill chains and magic bursts. As far as I know, there aren't any in the game, and those made FFXI so fun in a party. Limit Breaks are a nice idea, but from what I've seen, they take too long to build up and then only one character really gets to do anything, anyways.

Got in the beta. Much improved from the original beta which was bloody awful.
Very pretty and gameplay is decent, but doesn't grab me in anyway.

i guess I have been playing on PC for too long because I got into the PS3 beta today just to see how it holds up and damn that is a tough pill to swallow.

Was looking through my screenshots from earlier... Man, I really love the lighting in this game:

So good.

It's amazing to witness the global dynamic lighting system in action. If you stand still in town, you can watch the shadows of buildings and other players slowly move and rotate with the sun as it rises, travels across the sky, and sets. I've never seen an MMO engine capable of doing that before.

Don't that's a terrible forum.

lol. Used to be so much drama on there. :P

Oh yeah, totally. I often just stop to look at all the beautiful lighting effects going on when playing.

I mean, I was patient enough to play XI, so I don't feel this at all. Also, I think there's less tutorializing in this than most single player FF games.

That said, I've seen this sentiment enough now that I just wrote an e-mail to Square Enix with a possible way to rejigger the opening to make it more engaging that, hopefully, won't be too much work for them this late in the game. Also streamline it a bit so you get out of town faster, and stop the L5 gear check hiccup that I thought was kind of annoying.

There's a npc that sells them in each city. The one in Gridania is close to the big crystal in town.

If you are just starting, they are really expensive, though. Like 2400 gil.

Does it grow so you can ride it?

Rapid questions.

How can I get a axe? Do I need to travel to another city? How do I do that? Do I have to hoof it? Any lancers? What is the receptionist and the guy that gives quest wearing?

Okay, this is beyond stupid. Since earlier today I can't even launch the game.

I just get the intro music playing, the mouse cursor and the loading thing in the upper right corner.

I don't know what to do anymore at this point.

It's just a little minion/pet that follows you around - it doesn't grow up or anything.

You need to level up your current class to 15 (I think) to change classes and fly in an airship. At level 10, you can ride a chocobo, though. I think Axe is the Marauder class which is in Limsa. If you want to switch to that class and you haven't done much on your current one, you can always just create a new character as a Marauder (they use axes iirc). Not sure about your other questions.

So you buy a damn PS4! I dunno, that's lame.

ffxi PS2 has screen shot feature, and PS3 has a OS level screen shot and video capture option. At least SS should be in the beta, but it is a beta so it was probably left out.

I would share my PC account if it was allowable. I'll give this another shot on phase 4. Just found out that to unlock black mage I need level 30, and nearly collapsed at the thought of doing the same thing for 15 more levels.

How about Uninstall, re-install, update? If the game doesn't work at all, you might as well do that and hope it'll be fine after that.
