Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Beta Phase 3 Impression: Phase 4 August

I made a small review on my teams forums earlier in the week, and I am curious to know what others think of the pros and the cons that I listed.

Pros:
- It has a good way of presenting the story (cut-scenes, etc).
- The combat is varied (keep dots up, use an ability to buff other abilities for x amount of seconds, use other abilities that benefit from the buff ability).
- The graphics look superb!
- Questing with a group does not give you a penalty. You still get good experience by questing with people.

Cons:
- The UI is a pain to setup, and there are not enough options for you to truly customize it to your liking.
- The map is very difficult to navigate. It is a pain to find out where to go next.
- Quests are varied, but the variation is only limited (only reached level 30) to picking up items, using items on objects, and killing x number of monsters.

Overall, I think this game is pretty good. The only problem I have with this game is that I don't know if there will be good end-game content. I have done group dungeon(s), and they were very simple. My recommendation is to hold out until you get feedback from the end-game players.

Alright, I'll just put them here then. Quote to reveal.

I honestly didn't have much issue with the map. Maybe I'm just used to it from playing since the Alpha and 1.0 but, aside from icons overlapping at certain zoom levels and the red objectve ares being a bit too pale to be extremely noticeable, I didn't have any issue finding anything.

I sort of agree about the map. It was kind of a pain initially but when I managed to figure it out I didn't have many problems with it. I guess the main issue is if you choose for a quest to appear on the map, it's almost useless if you're not in that zone / don't know how to get there. They could have a 'waypoint' on the map / compass showing you what exits to take to get from your zone to the next, and when you're in the proper zone place the spot exactly on the map as it does currently.

Be sure to keep on giving actual feedback on the map and UI on the Beta Forums (only during the weekends though ._.). They've specifically mentionned the map as something they'd like reading more feedback and suggestions about.

One thing I'm gonna recommend this weekend is some kind of notification on the map when there are quest objectives in other zones, like a quest indicator by the zone name or something like that. Just anything that would make the questing system a little more streamlined.

EXPing was great on my gamepad last weekend, but whenever I had to grab the mouse to check another zone map or navigate over to my quest list just to see what zone it took place in, it got a little annoying.

The Lodestone beta is up:

http://na.beta.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone

For those new to FFXIV, the Lodestone is the official community site for the game. The Lodestone will feature character profiles, player blogs, social features, guides, forums, etc. They are currently expanding the Lodestone into an official game database where you can lookup gear and items. The new site is coming along nicely and I'm loving how friendly it is to mobile devices. Here are my beta characters:

Kuro Murakami, Male Miqote, Pugilist
http://na.beta.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/1626093

Bubble Gum, Male Lala, Marauder
http://na.beta.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/2275025

I like the male Miqote quite a bit but ended up missing the Taru/Lala too much. I'm going to be a Lala THM/BLM for phase 4/launch that will probably look the same as above but with a different name.

It is almost as if we were playing different games.

- The combat is varied (keep dots up, use an ability to buff other abilities for x amount of seconds, use other abilities that benefit from the buff ability).

Except that every class that I played played like that. Keep up your dot and do your basic combo over and over.

- The map is very difficult to navigate. It is a pain to find out where to go next.

The map gives you god damn glowing red spots for every single objective that shows you eggsactly where to go next. I don't know how they could make it any easier unless they put a giant red arrow above your head that pointed the direction as well.

- The UI is a pain to setup, and there are not enough options for you to truly customize it to your liking.

Can independently move and resize every aspect of the UI.

Is it Friday yet? D:
No joke. This weekend, I'm really ready to roll. Got me one of these puppies for $28 on Amazon...

Beats using the shitty on-screen keyboard or having an actual keyboard in my lap.

If the quest you are on is in a different area than you are in, good luck finding it on the map. Sometimes I even had problems reading the map for areas I was in, and sometimes new quests overlapped current quest objectives, making them hard to see.

So it seems like I am not going to get a ps3 key if one hadn't been sent to me last week? I have already register for the ps3 beta when the signup started, I had an old FFXI account and register the code that came with FFXIII PS3, I assumed they helped with my odds....

Anyone got a spare US PS3 beta key/registration?

Quick question: since I played the Beta originally on the PS3, as per the e-mail I can download the PC client and log in and play it on PC without any issues this friday? If I log into my same account, will my character from the PS3 version show up on PC?

Wanna see how my PC handles the game.

I'm hoping some people will be down for some party stuff. I'm not in the LS yet, were people teaming up last week?

There was some grouping but a lot of people didn't have enough time to reach a level high enough to really get into doing most of the party content that is available. There should be a lot more people reaching the first dungeon and beyond in the test this weekend.

I have one and frankly hated it. The light does not illuminate at night and the buttons are rather small, I have larger hands with somewhat slender fingers.

i always play in a well-lit room and i think my hands are pretty average. i'd like to try it but nobody seems to have it in my area. is it heavy?

Yeah I'm torn over getting one of the PS3 controller keyboards or just a wireless one. I used a USB keyboard all through FFXI and I didn't mind switching to it to type.

I don't get it...

If the quest is on another map, it takes you to the further out view where you just have to click the area that is highlighted, and find the connecting arrows. Also if you click one quest objective it will bring up the map and only show that quest's objective.

And here I wanted to complain about how much hand holding goes on with the maps and quest system, but I guess even that is too little for some.

Just checked my alt-email and I have a second FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Beta Test Reg code (got it last Friday apparently, but I don't check this account often) for US (pretty sure it's for pc).

First person that needs it (post) will be sent a PM later today (when I take my lunch).

He means that Legacy characters won't be able to transfer before 6 months (Q1-Q2 2014). Basically, he wants new servers to 'catch up' with Legacy servers and establish their own economy before allowing transfers.

Welcome. And what I derived from that Nova Crystallis interview question was that Legacy players wouldn't be able to transfer off Legacy servers to Regular servers for at least 6 (Or maybe sooner, as he noted) months.

Hmm so Legacy players get free transfer to any Legacy server at launch, and then ~6 months later can transfer anywhere normally.

Understanding. I think I have it.

Thanks!
