Wow so Paladin could actually use a decent balance of STR,DEX,VIT,MND, and PIE? I mean of course i'd want more of one stat than another, but it seems like i'd get good use out of those as a paladin.

VIT "should" be your main focus as a PLD. Buuuuut suppose we'll see what happens. With the stances, I'm curious if two PLD can do an instance where one is more dps and the other is tanky. We should test this ;)

Oh well yeah, of course VIT will be my main, but if STR helps to lessen damage received from blocking, i'd think I should throw some in too. Or at least get it to where you start seeing lower returns. Of course then DEX boosts chance to block as well...just a miniscule amount of MND to help when self healing/back up healing maybe?

At least with Warrior and Monk I know i'd just have to worry about STR, DEX, and a bit of VIT (if Warrior moves still depend on parry).

Just a reminder that a 20mb update for the game is now available.

I'd probably recommend downloading it now in case the patch servers screw up when the server launches.

Owning the 1.0 CE means you get the ARR CE items for free. The physical copy CE item codes can only be used with a new account. I'll try and find the link. Here it is:

Yeah just as I thought so I would still get the items via Mog letter and the other pre-order items such as the Mog hat and Cait Sith would be a code or auto add to the account.

Kind of silly they make blocking so complicated, yet attacking is simplified like crazy.

You can equip single WSs and Abilities from other classes.

So effective... the same thing, mostly. The whole idea of subjobs rarely worked like advertised. Mostly it wasn't only one or two abilities that were fairly critical to the whole thing.

Any word on if we will have to download a new client after the beta is over? Would be nice to be able to tweak the HUD to are likening now and not have to worry about having to do it again.

In 1.x I went 1/2 STR 1/2 MND. Paladin held hate by doing damage and healing, so I raised those stats for stronger WS and healing output. Yes, as a tank PLD kinda got hosed more than other jobs because all stats were good for PLD more so than anyone else, so a balance will be good.

I haven't done much testing with GLD/PLD in ARR; it's part of my plan for the weekend. I know SE has said they're redoing the stat system to not work with stat caps like it did before, but I still think STR and MND will be PLD's best stats unless I missed a memo about which stats their WS mods are in ARR.

So would they automatically have higher VIT via normal level up boosts? I havent really paid attention to my stats minus bonus attribute points in my ARR beta time either.

? You mean higher VIT than, like, a THM of the same level? I think so, but I didn't level more than one class in any phase of ARR testing, so I haven't checked. I'll find out as soon as I can get my 1.x character back in beta.

Actually, a quick trip to new lodestone and I looked at my new char (21PGL) and a random 20GLD.

My VIT is 70 but 10 of that is from gear, so 60 base. The GLD's VIT is 71 and she's not wearing any gear. Our INT and MND are pretty close, actually, but there is a large difference in our PIE stat without either of us wearing any gear to give it a notable boost.

Didn't they used to have tooltips saying what the stats did in the earlier betas?

I can't remember what they do after they changed anything.

Argh! Why does the server schedule have to end up being at 5 in the morning for me!? I want to be among the first peeps to jump back in so I can get to that quest before the line forms, but I'm not going to stay up that late/wake up that early.

I'm pretty sure they fixed that quest so you can do it without having to wait in line.

I just noticed on the character select screen that my connection is now "Excellent". Pretty sure last week it always said "Good"~, which makes me think they've changed the values involved to make me feel better.

EDIT: "LAGACY", please tell me that was a deliberate joke and they didn't type that incorrectly for the new server names.

Looking forward to trying this out over the weekend the client is updating VERY SLOWLY on the PS3, not sure if it's my connection but lemme tell you, it's slow as molasses.

lol i just found out about cracked materia. kinda funny. i had all sorts of funky useless triple/quad melds made for 2.0 just in case they became useful in a fantasy scenario. good to see those will probably be worth just as much as the 80M melds were.

which eu server are people playing on?

I've asked that question randomly before, sort of, because I was asking how many people in the GAF guild(?) were from EU.

Just so you know there is no EU servers in this game if you're concerned about performance, the datacentre is in Montreal, Canada. The EU tag on the names is just.. a tag.

Don't think you can take it off.

Out of curiosity, at launch, the NA servers are actually going to be located in NA, right?

..right?

The international servers are in Montreal, Canada.

Even during the betas? I swear they said they're in Japan for these.

I think they were for the earlier alpha/betas, but I doubt they are now because of the amount of people judging quality. I could swear I remember it being way more laggy before than it is now. It's a good question.

I don't even think the earlier tests had the servers labelled as Japan or international yet.

Is the only way to get beta access being picked? I still have my FFIV game disk that I never actually played at the time because my pc couldn't run it well (I was in the original beta). I was planning to upgrade but never did until recently.

Can I play the beta with the product key from the original game?

Is there an option to turn off the helm if you don't want it showing? Upgraded my wizard hat to this ugly helmet and want to hide it.

No. You have to signup and then get picked.

Yes. System -> Character configuration -> Character tab -> Hide head slot (or something).

Oh God, the new Gridania music is thematically patterned after the Hobbiton theme from The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. I am in love with this game's soundtrack.

How am I supposed to evade ranged attacks? I try kiting them (I'm an archer) and they all just hit me anyways. I guess I'm just used to GW2's combat so I'm a bit confused.

man oh man, this must be beautiful on a good pc. probably going to double-dip on the ps4 version.

It's actually pretty damn good looking with all settings maxed at a high resolution. There are places where texture resolution is clearly lacking, probably due to PS3 limitations. But the lighting and shadowing engine is state of the art and post-processing effects like light shafts through the trees and Bokeh (DoF) are all very high quality.

It looks like AA is working now. The game uses FXAA as it has a deferred rendering engine for post-processing and so cannot use traditional MSAA.
