Race switching is in phase 4 or release version only?
Early access or release, they're not sure yet. Definitely not phase 4, though.

Edit: found Hvinire's post regarding appearance change.

Hvinire said:
Sorry for the confusion, the latest information on Lodestone is the more accurate. Character data can be transferred over from Beta Phase 4 to launch, and on launch a character edit flag will be activated for 1.0 players giving them a chance to change their character's appearance once.

We're still deciding whether this will take place during early access or on August 27th, and will update you once we know more.

I just preordered the game from Amazon, going completely blind into this game. Never played XI or the original XIV, but I get tingly at the prospect of playing an MMO that's polished at launch, so I want to give this a full shot.

If I am interested in playing a tank whenever possible (with a preference toward multi-add tanking, if that makes any difference), which class should I look to be?

Marauder.

Gladiator is focused on single target tanking.

Either Marauder (Axe wielder) or Gladiator (Sword+Shield wielder).

Edit: beaten.

If you're going to do this, don't bother taking launch day off unless you enjoy doing nothing while they are in emergency maintenance most of the day because of how crashed the servers are.

Are we really expecting the game to do that well sales wise ? (a second time round ?)

I'm sure if the servers are ok in phase 4 they should be ok on launch day, especially with early access.

Of course the first couple hours is still going to be hard to log in.

Maybe since Final Fantasy is now dead, people will leave it the fuck alone, not say stupid shit anymore and let fans enjoy it. Nah, too much to ask for.

Alright guys. Pack it up. Final Fantasy is dead. Time to move to something else. http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/07/final-fantasy-is-dead/

I'm surprised to read that—especially from Chris Kohler, who I always thought was a pretty reasonable guy.

I mean, I hadn't been particularly hopeful for the future of the series myself I guess—until recently. ARR feels like the sun's cresting the hillside—and after the impressive (even yet clearly alpha) gameplay reveal of FFXV, I look forward to basking in the warm glow of Final Fantasy yet again.

If Final Fantasy is already dead and ARR is still coming out, does that mean it's undead? I, for one, welcome our new zombie overlords.

Well it is REBORN!

lol this was perfect

Yup, I took days off during Early access and after Launch, so hopefully they are ready :)

Days? No no no, I need money way too badly to be taking time off right now.

lol, you don't you get paid when you take a day(s) off ahead of time?

Yeah, I learned not to do that for a MMO, usually launch has a few hiccups which will be really frustrating when you are using vacation days for it.

Agreed, as a longtime FFXI player, I'm well aware of update type days, and all the 'fun' they bring.

I'm paid hourly, so, no.

I'm paid hourly. I also have this amazing thing called vacation time which I accumulate when I work. I've got something like 150 hours saved up in my PTO (Paid Time Off) bank at the moment, but I'm still not going to waste it on an MMO launch.

Well, maybe I'll take a day off during launch week. Just one though.

I don't get anything like that :(

Anyone else take some days off work to play ARR when it launches?

Yeah, I booked off the week of the release, although I will be working most time during the beta and early access, but I still wanted some 10 days of doing nothing but playing right during launch.

Time......passing...........so.......

.............slowly..........

...................Lord...................Saddler...............

I resubbed to SWTOR just to play SOMETHING while waiting for FF14. It led me to a question. I really liked Biochem in SWTOR. Anyone tried potion crafting?

Eh, I'm just passing the time by working, going on long relaxing bicycle rides, playing Dust: An Elysian Tail, (I am a Furry after all,) and maybe Fez afterward.

I wouldn't dream of starting into another MMO, JUST to take up a weeks worth of time. I'd sooner take up, DOTA. *shudder.*

I've been missing the game more than I'd thought I would since P3 concluded, so I think I will. Also, I'm still above my maximum for paid leave this year, so I won't be able to accrue any further unless I burn some. Work is incredibly slow this time of year and the workplace is nearly empty, so I can't think of a better time. I suppose if there are any server issues I'll go work in the yard.

I was thinking of doing this with XI, but they don't pro rate the month, so if you resub on the 30th, you have to pay for the whole month...
