Anyone else rocking face paint (that isn't "makeup")?

If I was confident there was going to be a way to remove, and/or change it later in the game, I would. Since there hasn't been any word about that sort of thing, I'm inclined to stick towards subtler features, that I'm less likely to actually tire of.

I'll still play around with it but this is probably what I'll be using for release. Converting my 1.0 Elezen to Miqo'te.

I really don't like Hume Highlander hairstyles. I think I am going to join the cat overlords or go back to my 1.0 midlander.

Messing around with the character creator reminded me of the biggest issue I have with the game's graphics: the gear clipping.

My male Roe's hands/arms clip through just about every piece of gear. I hope it gets fixed with the Dx11 update but I think it has more to do with gear not being modeled individually for each race. Its probably a memory limitation, so this may be another one of those PS3 sacrifices we have to live with.

...Is anyone making male characters?

Ayep, rocking the male Miqo'te. Might make a few more little alternations before the next phase though, I'm not sure I've exhausted every little setting.

You do touch on an excellent point though. There's a reason why I'm never going to walk up to another character and say, "Hey babeh!," in an MMO.

I mean a reason beyond the sheer tackiness of the phrase.

Hmm I could volunteer for the phase 4 beta thread if we want to make it now. I can post like a hundred avatars with it too if people wanted that.

My worry as well, but I think it might be one of the few features that'll make you stand out.

Pretty fond of the more rugged Manthra face. The sad part is i kind of settled with it.

None of Midlander faces look like me,
None of the Highlander hair looks good on a higlander
Elves are way too skinny
Galka also don't look like me.

So Lion-o it is :/

Another small concern there, is that Sunseekers are "supposed," to shun face paint, since thats a Mooncat thing. Presumably facial tattoos are different, though I saw so many Miqo'te with tiger stripe facial tattoo's, that it may be more distinctive not to have them.

Face paint is supposed to be a beauty salon thing, I'm pretty sure there's been a word on it on the Beta Forums. Tattoos on the other hand might be permanent though, as they're 'embedded' in your character model if that makes sense.

Edit: here's the official word on tattoos:

I just conquered my first FATE, and I'm looking for something permanent to remember it by! But...not too permanent...

Ok we all know that there will be a Barber shop, and I think its awesome to be able to change the hair style and color going forward, and for them to impliment different styles in the future.
What about a Tattoo parlor!? Wouldn't it also be good to change those facial tattoos as well? And maybe even add body tattoos and other options in the future?

Along with the salon/barber shop concept, the team is looking into making it possible to change tattoos around Beta Phase 4.

Hmm, might experiment with that later. Though I'd prefer to just add some more facial scarring. I actually bothered to add that to the mind-canon of my characters back-story, so more would make sense.

Max settings at 1080p, but with AO turned off - avg fps: 155

I'm still torn on which race to pick, i used to be a Taru in FFXI and played one in 1.0...

Though, annoyingly they still haven't fixed the terrible nose texture for the hellsguard.

So that's why every Roe I make looks like shit! Bleh.

Thank you for mentioning that.

---

I'm prolly rolling Hyur Midlander because they have the best hairstyle selection, and the inevitable barbershop stuff.

Lalafell is tempting but they're so tiny....

Roe is ultra-unique since nobody else will pick them.

What race are you playing as (or plan to play as) in FFXIV ARR?
Selection Votes
Elezen 13% 24
Hyur (mid) 22% 41
Hyur (high) 16% 30
Lalafell 15% 28
Miqo'te 29% 54
Roegadyn 6% 11

188 total

Poll results from a month back.

Pretty satisfied with the actual result. Can't wait to try again with my new rig.
Is it me or they lowered down the textures, I remember when you zoomed ingame (beta) they weren't hirez textures, wondering if they are doing that for the DX11 update. Don't get me wrong it's beautiful, but just surprised by the change.

Will fool around with the character creation this weekend^^

Not that big of a difference. Either way they've really optimized this game by the looks of it. Which makes it that much more exciting for DX11 when they get that out. I do wonder if we'll get a 64bit client out of it as well.

Now for some creation time!

Are you all using fraps to post your toons? I made both a sexy male and a sexy female Hells Ro, i'll probably be going with the male though.

Customized high settings got me ~7700, I'll live with that, comp's going on 3 years old and I paid less than a grand for it. If the framerate is bad on high it should be smooth on medium settings at least.
