So the answer is to grind up until 45 so I have AF gear to just completely outgear it even with the level scaling?

Brilliant fucking quest design SE.

I was able to beat it as a level 40 monk. The instance is supposed to buff you up so you're stronger and have more health. Also kill the adds really fast when they spawn because they kill off the npcs pretty quick.

Hahaha. That kind of stuff is frowned upon in MMOs, and it can get you banned. Especially so because it was pretty bad in FFXI and people are watching for botters. (didn't stop people from doing it even to this day though) I have no idea how fishing works in FFXIV, however.

No one is going to give a shit. They've basically nuked fishing into being almost entirely about achievements. It's a total bore craft now. Not sure why anyone would actually waste their time with it although SE's social dream of the craft is a nice thought on paper.

Because Shark Oil is super important for other crafts :o

I still remember early crafting and wondering wtf is fish glue, then realizing it was made from all those yellow fish I had sold to the vendor for next to nothing lol

Cant wait till I have to go back to leveling wonderfully random fishing to catch my components for crafting...

Sorry for a silly question, but on PS3, in battle, how do I toggle targets so I can heal an ally and then get back to bashing baddies?

Some screens so far,

Someday I will play this game on MAX 60fps, SOMEDAY!!

Edit: Incidentally, I've been catching little bits and pieces of what the upcoming maintenance is supposed to do. Would anybody care to give a brief rundown of everything we know about so far?

Note to self: learn how to play with mouse and keyboard already. Fates are a huge struggle using a keyboard, since by the time you toggle through all available targets enemies are often already dead.

How much faster is the leveling process if you have a level 50 in any class?

The reason I'm asking is that I currently have a 30-something Monk character and I've done the storyline up to Haukke Manor, but lately I've really been having fun playing around with my Lancer and Marauder classes.

If I want to level those classes up, would it be faster to just get my Pug/Monk to 50 and then concentrate on leveling any other class, or will the exp bonus from a higher class be capped or negated at some point?

Also, after you've exhausted the story quest, will it be really slow to get to 50 with a second class? Since the story quest gives you a ton of exp, and you don't have that option anymore, is it just a big, mindless fate grind to 50?

Er, I've been playing PS3 since Beta and it's left and right to toggle enemy targets, and up and down for Party members.

Don't know what other class(es) to play alongside Bard. Picking alt classes is a serious first world problem.

This is my dilemma

Using logic I've started Thamaturgist. It'll allow me to use my archer levels for black mage, then I can move on to Arcanist since I'll have thamaturge leveled and go summoner and make that the cycle

But part of me wants to stick to disciple of war classes so I can clear out my armory of this gear eventually

I bet the mindless fate grind will be even faster when you're not sitting around doing story stuff.

I don't understand the map on ps3. I bring up the journal, click the map button for the quest and all I see is fucking nonsense. It doesn't tell me which of the many exits to take in the city, I'm just running around blindly.

Btw any of you here own one of these? Logitech G13. Am looking to potentially pick one up for this game. As hate trying to use all the skills from a standard KB.

I've owned this for some years now, since Aion's NA launch whenever that was. It's the only way I can play MMOs, the thought of using fingers to move and do skills is now beyond my ability to comprehend.

My tank tied 4 times on Titan and the healer ended up jetting. Call up some gaffers and 1 shot the boss no problem. You just gotta believe.

that's like the zoomed out region view telling you what region your quest target is

ulda steps of nald i think so zoom into that

How do these work? Thumb on stick for movement?

Yes. Thumb for movement, all fingers free for skills.

In general, some people like these gameboards, other people like the mouse with 12 buttons on it. Both are acceptable options for playing MMOs, it's all a matter of preference. I use a pretty ordinary 2 buttons + wheel mouse with my G13.

Your mistake there was trying DF first and asking GAF second.

Zooming in doesn't bring me to a different layout. Its bonkers. I have to just keep popping the map in and out and eventually its sorta correct

I'm on a PS3, not everyone is on PC

Man, I dunno what they did, but after the maintenance on the JP servers, I logged in with pretty much no problems. Sent me to a queue and BAM, I'm in.

sorry i shouldn't have used the word zoom in since there's an actual +/- zoom.

click the icon to get a um...more detailed map of that area

Hmm.. looks like the armoury bonus is just a flat 50% exp bonus to your other classes if you have a higher class, and doesn't actually get larger if there is a big difference between your "main" and current class :S

Does the extra 20% EXP from the Moogle Hat or Helm of Light stack? (Levels below 10)

Did you mod your stick? Because I just got one cheap but the stick just sucks.

Other than that I use the G13 for all kinds of macros/shortcuts in the game. Got all gearsets and other thing on the keys, makes life so much easier and is much easier than remembering millions of shortcuts.

Hover your target cursor over the mission icon and then press R1. This will take you to the specific location the mission is on the map.

Haven't had this much fun exploring the world of a game since I played XII. Considering the XII vibes this game gives me, I think I'm gonna really like it, especially once they expand it more. Just a shame those Beef Gates are restricting some of my progress.

Joined the Grand Company, The Order of the Twin Adders and finally got enough seals to obtain my Chocobo mount. Still focusing on the main story line quests until I get to at least 25. Got my Archer up to level 29 and once I reach 30, I'm going to work on my Conjurer.
