The advice to set the three main cities as favoured destinations, then setting HP near your levelling location was really good, so thanks whoever gave that one out a few pages back. Saved a lot on other travel fees thanks to cheaper teleports.

But investing in crafting means spending a lot of gil, and without a retainer, you can't sell anything, so you're just going to be bleeding money (trust me, I have 3 crafts at level 20, I've been pretty much broke the whole time lol)
I'm close to the retainer quest, so I think my fortunes will reverse soon enough!

Aleport to Gridania was about 650 gil, ridiculous o.o
I favorite main areas

I've yet to be kicked from a dungeon. Maybe I'm lucky though.
Maybe it works for leveling up one craft then, but juggling three crafts and one gathering class, there wasn't enough leve allowances to really benefit monetary wise. The money I got from those went back into ingredients/gear for each craft. The HQ leves give a shit load of exp though, that's true.

Dear God no.

Juggling that many tradecrafts at the same time is nothing but insane that early in the game. I didn't even start gathering til I hate level 20 in leatherworking first.

Also, the level 10-15 crafting levequests will always give you more than market value for your items.

Too bad these moments are few and far between because most tanks are retards who can't hold aggro for shit.

While I wouldn't put them down that much, the primary reason why I play a tank is because I can't stand to see other people do it, and be forced to sit and watch as a DPS as the team wipes due to an easily solved problem.

It gets to the point where I end up trying to do the tanks job for them and inevitably almost dying as I realize the DPS' HP pools and defense just isn't enough.

Edit: Booted with 90000 error.

3102 returns.

Bunch of people are having the same issues. Instance servers are broken again I'd wager.

Which probably means more maintenance and then reverting to more login restrictions.

>Personal anecdote

Welp, maintenance is coming because me and a bunch of people are having problems, this is obviously fact based on my anecdotal evidence. Yup.

Is anyone having duty finder issues. I got booted from Halati with a 90k error

Is the server that does the actual duty finding function the same one that manages the instances themselves? If you 90k'd out of an instance you were already on that may not indicate a problem with the duty finder itself if that's the case.

;p It was mainly because I was waiting for the server to stop derping before doing the dungeon quests, the first of which I did tonight. I got all 7 Ul'dah craft/classes to 20 before going to Sastasha. Good exp progression, but yeah, pretty much flat broke all the time lol

Err, what? This has happened before. It's a instance server issue.

Happened the first few days of early access and resulted in a few maintenances to go along with it. Then when they couldn't fix it they put in the login restrictions.

Not just me either. Already a 9 page thread on the official forums of people having the issue.

Or maybe you are just a retard that can't DPS the correct target.

Agreed. I'm really beginning to wonder how many of these tanks are really as awful as people claim. I've seen enough shitty dps who don't know how to assist, who don't know what the aggro meter is, who keep attacking a mob after they get aggro, who run around like little bitches if they get attacked, etc, etc. to know that many of these "all tanks suck" posts are probably quite the opposite.

I've been in very few groups where the tank was as bad as people keep talking about. On the flip side, just about every dungeon run has one moron dps who doesn't know wtf he/she is doing. Of course they never figure out they suck because the tank/healer/other dps carry their dumb ass through the zone. So when they finally get into a group that can't carry them, they blame the tank.

This is your chance, GAF! She's on Ultros.

Something that can go great distances to help your party is marking targets. As a tank, I'm always certain to do it since it makes managing aggro easier and gives the DPS a target to focus fire on so I'm not being hit by several mobs for the majority of the time.

If the tank isn't marking targets, sometimes it's a good idea to ask if you can instead. I know in a party when I was playing MNK, things were going poorly yet after I started marking targets, almost everything got better quickly.

There are some tanks beyond repair, though, like Marauders that just spam overpower in front of a group of enemies and if one happens to break off, they don't pursue it at all, although I haven't seen any in a while since I leveled out of the teens and early 20s.

Common sense, if there aren't marks, is to just attack the first mob the tank does. Hasn't failed me yet.

If a tank is attacking a target and a dps is attacking the same target and the dps has aggro? Then yes, something is wrong with the tank.

Actually not always since it can also mean the DPS isnt paying attention to what they are doing with their skills. One of the easiest to fuck up aggro with is the archer due to their damage output capabilities.

maybe if you go pop off everything at the start of the battle, but during drawn out fights the tank should have enough enmity. aside from that, on most trash i'd say it's fairly negligible. i mean, as a dragoon i'll just use elusive jump to drop enmity, but i'll just tank it if it's a half dead trash mob and the tank can't pull it off.

In theory, yes, but with the visual effects in this game, in can sometimes be hard to determine what target your tank is actually attacking outside of highlighting him and "target of my target".

Additionally, while you may be smart enough to do this, I know from experience that a lot of people won't. You can't really get more obvious than a large number stating what order something should be killed in.

Also, as a tank, I may use my ranged attack to pull the closest enemy knowing that the rest will aggro, then I can run in for a quick flash and switch to my primary target to set-up a situation.

This so much.

Although I made the mistake of not acquiring shield oath asap for one of the later dungeons, the bard was easily pulling enemies away from me, even with enmity combo/flash spam.

So my 1.0 char is 19 Archer and I'm doing tutorial quests. Should I be in a dungeon or something?

I didn't do much with my 1.0 character, but IIRC, you just start out with the levels. You still have to do all the other content to "catch up".

Oh, I also had my money.

Did the maintenance help with login issues? I'm downloading the update, but I probably can't play until tomorrow or Friday.

I have yet to see a tank in a duty finder group mark targets, but I've only just completed Toto-Rak and it hasn't really been necessary yet. I have seen aggro issues in some of the df groups I've been in, but I've found if you just talk to them and get coordinated most of the time your issues will be solved.

It seems to have fixed most of the issues. Apparently the problems with the duty finder and instances have popped up again. I don't know how widespread it is though, I didn't have any issues tonight.

Anecdotal, but I just tried logging in after the update download and I got into Ultros first try. It's better than it was this weekend anyway, but I'll try a dungeon tomorrow

Instances are really screwed up right now. 90000 error and 10102 errors everywhere. When instances do go through, someone in the group is inevitably DC and we can't replace anyone.

Wut.

Shoot, I'm a tank and mark all primary mobs. And I've noticed that a lot of the players who are silent seem to be pretty new to the MMO scene so I don't really mind when they don't know what to do when in a dungeon.
