I've met a lot of these lv50s who don't even realize that their Job quests continue after 30...so that might explain the lack of AF. It's only the easiest gear to aquire ever.

The game is downright terrible with letting you know about available quests. You have to be in the same zone in order for the "!" to appear. If they don't know to go back for more quests, the game isn't going to remind them.

Can you tell your fairy to heal a certain member of the party with the sic command? or will they just follow your lead?

You can assign keystrokes to the pet bar. After that it's just a matter of picking the target and hitting a button.

there definitely needs more incentive to run dungeons again. Hard enough to nag some gaffers to help me out :(

Needs to be more incentive to run them period. I get much more experience just questing and doing FATEs compared to running dungeons... There's not enough reason to do the optional(non-story) dungeons and that kind of sucks.

I know. Pretty much everyone got it, except the healer. I mean, I understand that if you're in the middle of the heal, you'll want to try to get it off before moving. But after 10+ wipes, they should have figured out to just move immediately

That's a shame. I'm sure it's tough for a new healer because they were learning all this time to stay as far away from the enemy as possible and they're used to AOEs popping up around the boss, and not around the arena where they're probably standing. They should be able to get the hand of it after a few tries though, definitely after 10. :(

Playing a little bit further today. The PS3 controls are still fairly awkward, but I'm getting used to this (when I think about it, I think this is my first MMO ever).

I have been rolling THM, but it seems so... weird on solo. Like, I'm getting so many bad habits considering I have not had to worry about spacing and such so far. Also, I have been playing on Leviathan, and there is literally no one I know here (whether on GAF, IRL, or even other forums). I'm tempted to just start a new character and class on Sarg (and wait it out until Ultros opens up) and call it a day.

I'm so confused. I have a question about agro here. I just logged on my legacy PGL. Ran outside Ul'dah to kill some random things. Basically what is happening is I attack one non-hostile mob, and everything that is close gets linked to it... I don't understand. Its the starting zone, mobs are way lower level than me and normally they don't link at all. Everything is non-hostile until you attack it. Can someone explain to me what is going on?

For me, how I get xp is more important than the rate that I get it. Fate farming is boring, whereas dungeons are fun. That's my motivating reason. The level cap can wait. Plus, I know how to group more effectively doing it this way.

If the game imposed a minimum then the community would take it upon themselves to up that minimum.

Ive seen more than a few suggest that you must have full Darklight gear to do AK speed runs.

Im a tank and Ive yet to do AK because of the heavy elitism surrounding it.

Why the fuck you need lvl 70 gear for a dungeon that drops lvl 60 gear?

This game's landscape will be quite different after the free time is up.

Hopefully for the better because I wonder if only the elites will be left standing.

Man, I felt so bad for this healer the other day, had a FF character name or something, was really happy they got into an AK run with geared people. The DPS I was with was flipping out at them the whole time, like screaming at her to use DOTs and shit to kill stuff faster.

At the end of the dungeon, the DPS guy said something like, "can't wait for these kind of people to leave". Damn, it was lame :/

Haha, because patience is not a virtue in AK speed runs unfortunately. Well, look at it this way, we don't speed AK for the gear, we speed for the tomes. Some players are huge assholes about it and it's making it hard for people that have to finish AK for their GC questline.

You know, I kinda hope so, all those people that feel they need to "finish" the game before free time needs to go.

Even if it means less "life" in the world, the community will be much better without some of these people.

The dungeon itself is not that hard, I did it on a non-speed run party and we managed quite fine. Unless you really need that extra DPS so you can kill bosses 1 min sooner....

Square should re-evaluate experience gain in that case, and make the more fun and worthwhile things also the most exp-lucrative... They obviously spent more time making dungeons than they did FATEs so why not make the incentive to play them that much more prominent?

How are other WHMs getting good credit for FATEs? By the time I cast Stone, mobs are dead. Do we get credit for healing our party? I just joined a FATE party for the first time, and nobody was even getting damaged. I'm level 39, btw. It didn't seem this bad early on in the game.

I'm so excited! I got a hold of a physical copy from Best Buy as they happened to just get a shipment in. With only 5 mins till work I have all day to think about what class I should start with. Any suggestions for having the most fun while still being useful?

Yeah, I think it will be interesting to see who sticks around after the first 30 days. Who will go back to FFXI full-time, who will move onto something else. I could see the end of the free time for 1.0 players and the GTAV launch putting a somewhat reasonable dent in the player base at least in the short term. Then again after the 30 days expire for everyone who bought it cheap. After all, this game was widely available for $22-$30 on PC. Most people will take a chance on an MMO at that price.

some hunting logs and quests are gonna suck when worlds are empty.

Those ones in the middle of aggro enemy zones where you need some smuck to hide behind ;)

Tag as many enemies with Aero as you can.

Damn that's nice. Usually what happens when people get into it with Duty Finder is they say that they're new or they're not wearing DL, and people start bailing. Do enough AK in Duty Finder and you'll see that happen a bit.

Yes, there should of been alot higher gear gates in early dungeons. I didn't have to grind my whole cav set, I could of easily kept going and been fine with pickups from quests.

Switch from target to target and cast only Aero. There's no point in casting anything else unless it is a boss-type FATE with one target that has high HP. The rush of dps will finish off FATE mobs in less time that you can cast spells that require time.

If you're farming in Coethas, assuming your party does decent damage and you Aero at least 10 mobs in a FATE, you'll get at least silver if not gold.

Won't be able to play tonight.
Snagged some bikinis earlier though, which look ridiculous on my flat-chested Elezen female lol

Will be having a stab at Halitali tomorrow though \o/

Yes, a welcoming nice non-speed run party on my first AK?

It was almost a miracle, it was the first time I missed the possibility of adding friends on instances...

I'm on Hyperion and Siren if any of GAF wants to link up for some dungeons. PM for the handles.

Why the hell are people doing duty finder for story required dungeons EXPECTING speed runs. Get a static group and run with them, FFS.

The problem for me was not standing inside the circle, that was easy enough to figure out, but in the second half of the fight where he sends out those pillar attacks that knock you off with very little advance warning. The second time I felt like I had moved in time but it still got me. Luckily I'm only a DPS and he was down far enough that the rest of the party could finish the job.

Cross server friendlists are awesome, this game needs that feature!

Man, as for my first AK - it was a speed run. Dudes were like, "Go. Speed. Just go." Fortunately, I watched a tutorial on youtube prior to queuing up so I knew my shit. We oneshotted everything in there and I got a piece of hoplite gear. Good times but damn were those guys assholes.

Sadly won't work for me. I set up my Square Enix account years ago, for reasons I cannot recall, and unfortunately I cannot recall the answer to my security question, which is neccesary for setting these things up.

Also, Square's methodology for correcting these situations, seems to be busted. They were supposed to contact me with instructions for resetting or changing my security question, but, so far there's been no contact.

fuck

Sounds good, thank you :)

Perhaps you should reconsider the MMO genre.

Maybe the people who make MMOs should reconsider the MMO genre.

However, I think you misunderstand my point. I'll put up with crap if the content is interesting and I feel an attachment to the people I'm going to run it with. A lot of the content sounds troubling (harsh gear checks, HNMs = public FATEs, sac-pull speed run stuff back in business, endgame seemingly based on getting tokens wherever you can get it rather than FC-based milestones) and I don't really feel much of an attached to the current iteration of Red Dot (the game as a whole feels more impersonal, yet noisier). So no incentive to deal with a grind.

EDIT: It is weird, but my favorite thing about this game is helping people do story stuff. Nothing else feels like decent human interaction and I get no satisfaction from that aspect of it.

Kinda wishing I wasn't a tank so I could run into this asshole and give him a piece of my mind (borrowed from the official forums):

[3:56 p.m.](Shu Ouma) i charge 7000 gil 4 me 2 be a good tank
[3:57 p.m.](Shu Ouma) u cant progress without me
[3:57 p.m.](Shu Ouma) so blow me poppycock
[3:58 p.m.]Action canceled. You are under attack.
[3:58 p.m.](Okabe Rintarou) quarn
[3:58 p.m.](Shu Ouma) die mr healer
[3:58 p.m.](Shu Ouma) die
[3:59 p.m.](Okabe Rintarou) so why do you ask for payment?
[3:59 p.m.](Okabe Rintarou) doesnt make much sense
[3:59 p.m.](Okabe Rintarou) this guy refuses to tank so you might as well leave
[3:59 p.m.](Shu Ouma) 2 make some gil
[3:59 p.m.](Okabe Rintarou) wasting my que
[3:59 p.m.](Okabe Rintarou) anyone who pays you is an idiot
[4:00 p.m.](Shu Ouma) isnt dps que fun
[4:00 p.m.](Pain Train) what's the deal?

It is my experience that the people pugging in the final set of instances in this game are the worst fucking people playing the game. Not talking about being bad players, just terrible people. Healers who never get out of cleric stance and start pulling the full instance when people aren't moving fast enough/other healer doesn't heal them so they can get someone else to leave first so they don't have to wait the 15 minutes to requeue. Tanks trying to charge gil to not suck. DPS starting bossfights when others are watching cut scenes. Everyone only out for number 1. All while using the normal ethug typing style. Hope you like being called a noob, and have it pointed out that they have their relic weapon so they must know what they are doing.

Just saying, this is something you are going to have to get use to.

Perhaps you should reconsider the MMO genre.

Why? Not everyone is interested in endgame loot grinds. It's why alts exist.

This game is even better for that since you can do it all on one character. There are 19 classes available that you can level to 50 or until an expansion comes out that increases the level cap making current endgame dungeons more manageable for people that are less than hardcore.

I help people out with Ifrit HM every now and then but otherwise, I've switched over to leveling my primary crafting and gathering classes. Afterwards, I'll probably try leveling a tank class.

There's more to do in this game than just repeating the same dungeons over and over again to get the absolute best loot...just so you can continue doing the same dungeons over and over again, but faster. That doesn't sound especially fun to me and the amount of elitism going on with that content just doesn't make it worth it to me and I'm sure many others.

curious about whos gonna be around in 2 months. I tend to be 100% for a mmo for about 1.5 months until i reach cap. do some end game stuff, and then quit.

nothing about leveling other stuff or crafting appeals to me. pvp seems like a second thought and will probably be unbalanced like all mmos.

gta online! weee

Jesus christ the amount of rage. I'm 49 now and have started to run into trolls but you have got to be kidding me at that exchange. Red Dot don't let me down and ever turn into anything like this ever.

I agree, I've played tons of MMOs and rarely do a lot of end game stuff, but his point was that the end game didn't look interesting because it was just grinding for gear. I was half-jokingly saying that pretty much every single MMO is just a grind for gear at end game.

Isn't 4chan.org on Ultros? I seem to remember that being mentioned quite a few times in the Beta 4 and EA threads. I'm wondering of that's where a lot of these severe troll players are coming from. I haven't seen anything remotely like this on Faerie. Everyone is helpful and the odd bit of douchebaggery in shout gets dealt with rather swiftly by the community there.

I'm in the same boat. Sent a support ticket (which doesn't seem to exist anymore) for that and nothing yet. I guess it's because the insane amount of people trying to contact them. I hope they get to it soon, I want to protect my account :(
