Question time!

During the original game launch, I bought the Collector's Edition, but I never activated the game-key as the backlash of the game was quite literally, devastating. So, I just put the game to my bookshelf in its pretty box.

Now, I have been searching for answer to this question, but never quite managed to make it clear. So, can I use the unused 1.0 CE key to get the Realm Reborn version? Also, do I get any Collector's Edition goods, or is the old 1.0 CE only good for getting a ARR account. And lastly if, for some reason, I get some Collector's Edition goods with the 1.0 CE account creation, do those items etc transfer to the PS3 client, if I decide to buy that one?

Well, did you get your level 15 one from a dungeon? Dungeon drops last a long time before they get beat out by quest/merchant gear.

Don't even remember where I got it from, but it's a two slotter so guess that's why the comparisons are making it better than any other gear I earn. I'm just sick of the look and want to look different!

I don't think I am understanding GC gear. The early level 30 stuff seems to require a higher rank. I looked up online what the rank requires and it is 11k seals earned to unlock the rank. I am level 31 now with 6.7k seals and I have been doing a lot of fates. It seems like I would outlevel the gear before getting enough rank to buy it ?

The interwebs don't have reliable GC promotion costs yet. Don't trust anything you've read.

I'm level capped at Storm Sergeant 1st Class (Lvl.42) right now and my last promotion cost was only 6K in seals.

If you run dungeons at all, pretty much all the GC gear is useless except for the Lvl.50 weapon. Just save all your seals for promotions.

I've bought 4 pieces of GC gear on my way up -- chasing the 2-piece bonus stats -- and it always ends in frustration. I'll spend 2K on a chestpiece, only to have something better drop 20 minutes later during a dungeon run.

Skip the armour stuff, promote yourself and save 7.5k for the Lvl.50 weapon. Thank me later :D.

I got no clue about bards but I love them to death in my groups - can you have multiple songs running? Do you need to weave the songs and refresh? How do they work?

Songs drain the bard's mana pretty rapidly. Only one can be going at a time. They are generally area based, about 20 yalms. So if everyone in your group is spread out, the bard would want to be in a middle area for the song to hit everyone.

One song per bard, and the length of the song is tied to the bard's MP. Multiple bards means multiple songs, but they don't stack.

One song per Bard. I can have Mage's up and another Bard can have Peon's or Foe's up at the same time. I don't think they stack though.

The only thing I don't like is that songs are the only skill I have to stand still for :P

EDIT: Berordn said it better :(

It's not that rapid, actually. The most common song I use is Mage's Ballad which seems to give me the mana buff as well. I can keep it up for around 6 minutes with zero points in Piety. I've yet to run out of mana before it became redundant. The 20% DPS de-buff sucks though.

Weekend update!

We ran Ifrit HM 10-11 times last weekend with a full FC group. Ifrit dropped a lot of useless stuff for the group that no one could use, including several BLM weapons, SCH books, and SMN books. Three people managed to get their Ifrit weapon and we also got a MNK weapon right after the MNK (Pit Bull) left our group. lol..

Illyasviel Einzbern (Unknown Soldier) - WAR/Axe
Scything Moon (EndcatOmega) - DRG/Lance
Strawberry Shortcake (androidcandy) - WHM/Cane

Huge thanks to Monteblanc Pagliacci (Rhadamanthus) and Safflower Amariyo (Paprikka) for helping us through all those runs, despite already having their weapons!

Some people from our group, including myself, managed to get our Ifrit weapons the following day in PUG groups. I suffered solo through two encounters and was lucky enough to get one on my second attempt of the day. Ryder Croyles (Croyles) and Pit Bull (Pit Bull) queued through the pit of despair for several hours and eventually got theirs as well.

I capped off the weekend by running Aurum Vale with a FC group. After we finished, we ran the beginning of the dungeon 3 more times so everyone could get their Malboro Seedling minion. It was pretty fun training all the mobs to the boss room for quick access to the chest.

I'm looking forward to running Wanderer's Palace and Amdapor Keep next. I'm not too excited about the speed run method of clearing the dungeon that is happening right now though. I might try to complete and farm Wanderer's Palace first. Don't most people recommend that you gear up from Wanderer's Palace first anyway? Either way, I would like to complete Amdapor Keep legitimately the first time that I run it before I start doing any speed runs.

swimsuits made me realize... you can't not have a weapon equipped.

Hide your weapon from the character menu.

i loved bards early on but after enhanced shroud i'd rather bards keep up the dps and turn off ballad

I'm thinking the gear check will be softer on DDs versus tanks, so I think I'll stick with Dragoon being my real job rather than Warrior.

So how should a Bard play in the late game stuff?

As I said some pages ago , I had a lvl 50 Archer on 1.0, but left the game before jobs were introduced.

Now I dont really know how I should play BRD. Should I just try to play like an Archer (meaning just DPSing) and only sing for mages when they're out of MP?
Are the other songs worth?

Still banned after being hacked by a gold farmer...no way to check on the status of the ticket, apparently? It's been like 5 days. Every time I call the phone number, it is immediately busy.

You shoud file a complaint with www.ic3.gov against the offending website.

At least this way, it helps put an end to the source of the problem instead of people blacklisting/yelling at accounts stolen and used by bots.

Yeah I don't have it yet :)
But I also notice that with me having learned to deal with the MP situations I have a easier time even without bards. Still loving to not have to be super conservative with MP, though.

Thanks for the bard info :) How are you managing MP as a bard?

I am level 47 and have never had to use Mage's Ballad to help a group with mana. Foe Requiem (reduces target's elemental defense) seems to be the only useful song so far. Later on Army's Paeon (TP refresh at the cost of 20% dmg) seems like it might be useful for marathon fights.

Did temple of Qarn last night with a group of friends for the first time. Went 1/1 and was a blast! Dungeons really demand more and more of your attention as you move along, especially if you're the tank. The last boss is my favorite by far. Place is just filled with mobs from FFXII too lol.

Are all of the withered/cracked equipment we got used for synthesis or something?

Later dungeons are so much fun with a group of friends and yes, pretty much for crafting

It was an epic fight. Our group is PLD (me), WHM, WAR, and MNK, and on the last boss our WHM and MNK bite the dust at 10%. So it's me and the WAR trying to burn down the boss all while dodging the blue aoe. I popped the limit when I had around 300 HP, and we ended up killing the boss when I got down to 93 HP lol. So much cheering on vent, it was glorious.

How are you managing MP as a bard?

Pots and ballad triage :P

My regen songs go on at around 40% MP/TP during bosses and 20% during large trash pulls if we're having trouble healing through. I try to get them off as soon as the drop levels out. If I'm running with a BLM, it gets complicated because I try to have Foe's up for the entire fight. If Piety:Mana ratio wasn't so stupid, I might actually spend some attribute points in there.

I use the regen songs much more than Foe's. I've mostly been PUG'ing so maybe you just run with a much more efficient tank/healer combo?

Foe's Requiem has been kind of useless to me so far. In my experience, Black Mages burn through mana so fast that the mana regen is probably more beneficial to their overall DPS. With casters in my party, I try to have it up as often as I can but my mana is usually better spent on the regen stuff for tanks/healers.

i'm still not seeing any real use of the mp regen skill of paladins, unless i'm playing them wrong and i should be spamming flash way more, or switching oaths alot... idk.

You don't need to worry about BLM's mana usage, since regenerating it and burning it quickly is the class's mechanic.

Cheers, mate. I'll keep that in mind.

It always scares the sh*t out of me when I see my BLM dump 25% mana in 2 seconds.

I should probably roll one for a bit so I know what I'm dealing with.

Tonight if I can't get into Sastasha after an hour of waiting with my dps then I'm just going to carry on with the healer. I don't have the time to just sit there waiting and knowing my luck it will go terribly with people leaving and all sorts of nonsense.

I'm on now if you want to try your luck at Satasha =p Invite Lea Monde if you're on and want to do it.

Hey guys, do you know if each class gets it's own Relic Weapon quest? Or must I finish my first Lv50 Job's Relic Weapon quest to begin another Job's Relic Weapon quest?

AK is going to be really tough if all you have is AF gear. Getting a couple pieces from Wanderers + GC stuff (if you are high enough) combined with Ifrit weapons should help out. Will likely still be a bit rocky until you start getting drops from AK though but its a fun and challenging instance. Especially the second boss.

If you need a WAR for these let me know (Rock Volnutt). I just got my Ifrit Axe last night and I really don't want to speedrun either of these dungeons at least for my first time through them.

I didn't even know the swimsuit thing was happening until right before I logged out last night. Guess I haven't been spending much time in Ul'dah for a while.

Yeah IMO, AK is a bit too hardcore for that damn GC requirement - it should simply be finishing the main story quest so that people are able to buy their GC Top Rank weapons and accessories in order to get them somewhat prepared for Ifrit and AK.

Speaking of AK - I did about 5 speeds yesterday with some serious douchebags. We were DOMINATING the place, like 20 minute runs, but these guys were still griefing. Complaining about the gear drops, killing the first succubus after the second boss, somebody not getting the second chest, etc, smh.

This just reminds me that I need to actually start running Ifrit HM and work on getting Darklight gear for my WHM to progress more into end game stuff. I've kind of gotten into doing my own thing for a bit after a few more dicey groups for the last dungeons of the game.

How much are the other pieces you can pick up with the lower level tomes? I have some already and want to spend them on gear if I can now before diving back in for more.

Edit: I'd also be down for an AK run if needed and would like to run it normally at least once before speed runs begin.

I got banned on the official forums for saying the following. Holy crap, I'm done posting there.

High level gathering is useless

"There is just no market for any of this stuff. I originally leveled mining to fund mats for goldsmithing, because the mats were expensive. In less than a week the value of all the materials has hit rock bottom. There is nothing you can gather that is worth ANYTHING. The most valuable item that can be gathered is shards...which can be done at level one. There is still some value in the unspoiled nodes, but another 2-3 days and they will be worthless too. This has to be the only game I've played where the gathering profession couldnt make money selling their gathers"

Wow but there is so much truth to what you say
