I'd love to help with any of the first three dungeons and Ifrit (that's as far as I've gotten lol) I like helping others because with these games you get out what you put in. I won't be on until later this evening (I'm at work right now) but I'll gladly come along for any dungeon runs. I'm a 25 MRD and I've never played a tank before in an MMORPG so any extra practice is great in my book.

As a guy who never played a MMORPG, how accessible is this game ? The PS3/PS4 cross-buy plus all the good feedback I've been hearing for a while are making me interested in the game.

Super accessible. Easy to learn. hard to master kind of deal. If you're a FF fan, the OST, the story and the world design will enchant you. Just think of it as FFXII, except with 7800 people running around too.
 
Did 13 Ifrit Runs Lat night, was a blast for 3 hours

If I buy a retail PC copy of the game, am I still able to set up an account and create a character? Or is there a block on those things at this time? I know they currently aren't selling digital copies to keep numbers manageable.
 
I want to play the game, but I'm just feeling meh about progression. WoW's LFR has spoiled me in that despite me having a really erratic schedule which generally prevents me from traditional raiding, I still have an avenue for progression for my character. I just don't see what there is for me in XIV besides slowly grinding out AF+1 and leveling crafting classes... Which is fun but yeah... :(

If you find a retail copy, it works. If you find a retail 1.0 copy, it also works.
 
not sure if anybody has an answer. The question has come up before and i've looked through the this thread/reddit/bluegrtrs/etc... and I just can't figure it out.

I've never downloaded the beta. I've deleted every file multiple times and redownloaded everything. I've turned off firewall. I've used CClean and cleaned up registry, I've changed the folders to non read... you name it, i've done everything you can find on the internet.

It's frustrating. I just want to dl on my crappy laptop so I can basically mine/chop trees at the lowest possible settings/etc.

Help needed.

I'm trying to get the game to play on my ps3. so far, I have managed to link my psn account with square's account and after that the game tells me that it's going to update the game client. Which straightly boots up this message:

"The server is not responding." With an error code of [11070][-2140073976]

Is there something wrong with my connection as I can't seem to find answer to this error code anywhere.

Huh? There is a PS3 / PS4 cross-buy promotion for FFXIV?
I knew you could access character data between platforms but will I be able to play FFXIV on the PS4 without having to rebuy the game again? I just ordered the disc version of ARR for the PS3 so this would be awesome!

Turn off your virus scanner and firewall?
 
Well, definetly I'm one of those affected by lag spikes and 90k since maintenance. I thought it might be that my router was fucked up or that opening the ports would help, but it didn't. I can get a couple of hours, with luck, in which is goes fine then it goes to shit with massive lag spikes and 90k everywhere. I could barely do any instanced dungeon in the last day.

No one even bothers talking to you. I have started as a WHM (same as I started with in XI) and in XI people used to be so thankful for a quick heal as you passed them by, or a raise if they were lying there dead.

So far I've healed a few folk to save them from what looked like certain death, and raised a couple of players, and no one has even uttered a quick "ty". It feels so unfriendly.

Trouble is, a lot of the people I played XI with started this theday it was re-released, and I couldn't start it then sadly. And the worse thing....which I know a lot probably won't miss. No real time air ships and ferries. I used to love the down time sat just having a chat with friends while traveling or waiting for the next ferry to arrive.

I know I should be treating it as its own game, but it just doesn't feel anything like I imagined it would. I miss those big open fields and being scared of starting off not wanting to travel any further than a few yards from the gates of Windurst.

Still, only been playing 3 days so perhaps once I get a involved with a party and do a dungeon or something, I'll start to fall in love with it.

Got to say I'm finding targeting NPC's and non-party members with a gamepad to be a pain in the arse though!

I have met very thankful and chatty people so far, so I guess you really had bad luck there!

I really got intrigued when I read the real time travel part, I kind of hoped something like that would be in the game. I'm glad that there at least is a departure and arrival scene but I'd love see the airship actually fly from A to B like the chocobo rides. I'm guilty of using teleport pretty often, get's you around instantly.

I haven't played FF XI but it seems it's quite a different game. FF XIV ARR is quite story driven with a pretty forward path like in previous Final Fantasy games. It's really like single player FF but you can chat and battle together with other people. I like it a lot, but I can see how veterans of FF XI or MMO's in general are disappointed yet I hope you get to enjoy the game!

Joined a farm group today for the first time, got her 1/1 lol!


I have to say, there is simply an immense difference between doing Garuda with random ppl on the DF and doing her with ppl on your server got by shout. Most DF parties struggle to get to the second phase, while we managed to beat her even when one of our WHM died, with our SCH healing alone half fight.

yup

i don't really have any interest in coils so i don't see the need to grind gear

ended up leveling a pally but i don't know what i'll do after i hit 50 on that too

I really wish you could do class quests while being grouped or in the duty finder. Feels really weird to have to drop group, withdraw from DF and/or dismiss your Chocobo if you want to do one of those class quest battles.
 
how are healers getting smacked around by titan? you have one attack to avoid, ONE! tired of having to make up ridiculous excuses to be away from the game so one of my teammates quit and i don't have to wait 15 minute.


"oh crap, i didn't know my show was on, you guys can take care of titan without a tank right? later"
 
Well... That was a dismal experience in Halatali. I don't know if this was my fault or not, but I was one of two DPS's, and there was a tank and a healer. For some reason, one or two mobs always stopped attacking the tank and always made a beeline to the healer. Often I would try to attack whoever attacked the healer (as an archer, I'm squishy, but it would be better for an enemy to go after me with second wind than killing the healer). Healer often got wiped in a couple of hits. This repeated for a few times before the healer quit out, and we couldn't really make much progress without one.

Man, 30 minutes waiting for duty finder down the drain... Looks like I may need GAF assistance sooner than I thought (especially with Ifrit around the corner).

This is totally not your fault. The reason is healing kind of counts as an AOE attack regarding emnity. So the tank needs to generate enough emnity on all the mobs and the healer has to ease up on the healing if he starts building emnity. If the healer does get mobs on him it's his job to run up to the tank to get it off and the tank's job to actually get it off.

At low levels this is a fine (especially for inexperienced players) line as the healer doesn't have tools to reduce hate and the tank may have no AOE emnity attacks. But as a DPS you don't have to worry about that.

not your fault, but, in the future you can usually get a handle on trash mobs doing this by using shadowbind when they're out of range of everyone.

if it's a regular wipe issue either the tank or the healer is trash and you just would've wiped on first boss anyway, so don't worry about not knowing this. just something you can do when you've got the occasional runaway.
 
I don't quite understand the jobs descriptions I've read...

If go with white mage, can I alternatively also level the respective classes for a Dragoon which are unrelated to the white mage? Also, can I pursue Paladin as well which requires a conjurer as a subclass?

You can level any and all classes in this game. The same goes for the crafting/gathering ones.

Do not worry about picking the "right" one. If you have the time [and the patience], you can do it all.

But sadly, I need 780 more Tomes to get my relic now lol. At least I'll be able to get my relic +1 next week if I deem it more of an upgrade then potentially two pieces of AF+1
 
I've grabbed this for PS3 made a Conjurer and having a lot of fun leveling up.

Only real concern is I can only play very late at night/early am (UK) and I'm worried I can't solo to 50 and the story.

I've always been a decent attentive aware healer in MMO's so I'm hoping WHM will help me find a 1am group.

Should I swap to Archer or Lancer for my solo heavy gameplay?

The story forces you to do dungeons so playing a healer will let you find parties faster :P

Yep. It works like the traditional job-based FFs: there are events, items, and skills that are gated off UNTIL you hit a particular level in something, but at no point do you have to make a permanent decision about what you want to be, and you can swap back and forth at any time that you're out of combat. The endgame of playing long enough is "mastering all jobs", or level cap in everything.
 
Hey dudes... I was going to wait for PS4, but I'm probably going to pick this up today or tomorrow on PS3.

One question: is there a big download/update when you first start the game?
 
So just to clarify, there's no quests for the Moonfaire Event, right? It's just go out to the zones where theres the Return of the King FATE, do the fate, get bomb ash, spend bomb ash on skimpy bathing suits, and that's all? That's all the event is, right?

It's very possible that it's lag, especially if those healers are from Europe.
The healer is out of titan's ability and he shows as still charging it up on his/her end, but on the server's end, he/she's still in it, so he/she gets hit by it and thrown to his/her death (or simply takes a ton of damage if he/she doesn't fall down).
The only way for me to manage to dodge Titan's ability was to move before he started casting it on me, just as I thought "here, he's turning around to cast it on me, I'm feeling it!".
 
Has anyone actually cleared the Return of the King fate? It's been failed every time I've done it.

Then again, there's only one other person at the fate with me, so that might be why.
