It really irks me when I see bad tanks. I beat myself up on PLD when I do something absolutely silly and wipe a raid. Last night I got turned around in Binding Coil and pulled a large aoe into the raid and wiped us. ; ; Felt like total shit.

Then I queue up on BLM and see what a really bad tank is.

To be fair, this is the game that puts the most pressure and responsibility on tanks. Being the healer is stressful at all times and now I really want to see dps get some more involvement in strategies other then "attack x now" and "red bad mkay?" stuff...

My first impulse was to give them more crowd control and stuns but then the chaining of skills for dps is so tight that the design of those hardly allows for stuff in between.

Needs another pass class design/synergy wise in terms of important battles.

Tanked Qarn with a PUG last night.. first time I've felt helpless in a dungeon, heh. We wiped to the first boss 5-6 times because the DPS just couldn't kill the bees fast enough, and it seemed like everyone else thought we were dying to doom. It wasn't doom, it was the 1k+ damage from final sting. Promise.
After we struggled past that boss and made our way to the temple guardian, we consistently died when he starts ignoring enmity and attacking whoever he wants. I'm not sure how you guys got this far in the game without learning that the big, obvious red marking on the ground is the place you need to move out of. I can't stun his attacks, I'm still way at the top of the enmity list and the blind from flash isn't enough to make it okay for you to wait until you finish casting to move out of the range of his attack.

I guess this is something people run into earlier with tanks not doing their job? But as an at the very least competent tank (judging from the horror stories on here), things haven't been too rough up until now. Ugh.

Was just in an AK run which used an interesting tactic on the first boss.

When you run into the first bosses area the healer cuts right and jumps up onto the tree branch. Once you have the priest down you ignore the golems and concentrate on dpsing Psycheflayer. The healers healing aggro will pull the golems to beneath the branch where they cant actually damage him so theyll stay there doing nothing (well the white one still does his AOE). Then you just burn Psycheflayer down while dodging the giant golems AOE as normal.

Don't get banned

Well, about to log in for the night, but I figured I'd share the video of my fight against Story Garuda first. Yeah, I realize there are dozens if not hundreds of video's like this out there, this is mainly for posterity.

http://youtu.be/wd_7bR24_fQ

Anyhow, beat Darkhold and Garuda last night, and I'm just a hair below 47, by the time I gather enough Seals for the GC axe I want I should level up.

Oh hey, that's me (Elliott). :x I didn't even realize you were recording. lol I should have jumped more. Good thing you didn't post the one where I noobed up and she got me with slipstream or whatever.

I swear that tanking the lvl 50 dungeon with the gargoyles is going to make me cry one of these days. Gunna spoiler tag the boss just in case:

The wall boss, why is it that every single DPS i tank the dungeon for cant move out of the purple goop on the floor. WHY, WHYYYYYYYYYY ;_;

Ye gods people

In all fairness a lot of fights have a ton of movement and quite a few of them have silly numbers of adds that are entirely the responsibility of the DPS to deal with. If anything, there's a little too much of that, because MNK and DRG tend to suffer for it.

Just hit 50. What should be my utmost priority now after finishing story??

Finish Story to unlock Ifrit
Get Ifrit Weapon
Start buying DL gear (you should have enough for a belt or accessory)
Start running lvl 50 dungeons and AK (if you are a healer you get away with AF and Ifrit weapon, if you're dps you need DL gear since AK has some major DPS checks).
Start Relic Reborn Quest (from Vesper Bay NPC)

That fight is easy enough to not have to resort to cheat crap that gets you most likely banned.

Eh. Eventually you only have to kill one golem. Doesn't really save time.

Qarn is he first dungeon where the difficulty really ramps up. People have issues, especially if they are new. Can see how it would be frustrating though is if you are running it for the exp and drops. When I was I was watching my wife go through it the first time we were lucky to have a forgiving GAF party (including Elliott up there :D).

patch notes

added dullahans to the top of the tree in psycheflayer's boss room

Anyone got a HM Titan kill on Dooty Finder yet?

I've seen some of the worst people ever here, and I wonder how they ever got this far. My record is a party with 2 full AF Monks and a PLD with 3k HP, after waiting over 30 minutes for that party we didn't even bother to start ... tons of fun!

Considering I'm also a marauder: by what dungeon should I switch over to Warrior?

After you unlock the Job for your class, there's really no reason to ever use the base class again. Or very few reasons. The stats/abilities you get for your job are better than the base class. It's kind of a weird system, but eh.

------

@People talking about the storyline and underused villains:

Completely agreed. I enjoyed the story, but it felt like I barely knew any of the villains.

FFXIII syndrome.

That's a very weird order. Basically, should be in reverse. xD

isn't using DF handicapping you even further since you get 2 tanks when you only need 1?

Some people say Brayflox is the first "hard" dungeon, and I point to Quarn every time. Outside of a few choice boss fights I have yet to see anything that filled me with more dread than those Quarn bees. The first time one of those one-shotted my (good!) tank while i was healing I did a massive jawdrop/double-take and thought I had lagged or something til my party explained what was up. Then i saw the first boss summon some and knew sh*t was getting real. Last boss is no joke either.

I'm sort of unsure about this game right now. I've been having a ton of fun with it and just beat the story yesterday. However, even though the primals were amazing to fight and I would like to see more of those I really don't want to grind AK and CM for tomes. I really hate this kind of progression.

Also, renewal time is soon here and I don't know if it's worth it to pay more money just to grind.

Doesn't Warrior sacrifice Strength for Vitality? So for solo play I'd assume you'd want to switch?

And get banned by SE for using a tactic that wasn't "the expected way to play". Not worth it, at all.

How much HP on a tank is preferred for HM Titan?

So I'm a WAR skipping Darklight heavy armor body because I hate it so so so much. I refuse to get it. I have standards.

Have my AF+1 head and saving up for the body which will take a few weeks due to myth caps.

Darklight hands and legs, all darklight accessories and a hoplite ring. Hoplite body. Think I'm OK for Titan?

Just a heads up you lose access to your PS3 version when you upgrade.

idunno qarn is more about knowing the mechanics and rules beforehand

brayflox is pretty intensive at that level even without special mechanics

The number I see minimum for Titan is 3.3k hp. I assume he want as much as possible above that.

Started it eralier today and for some reason I'm enjoying it a lot more than previously on the beta. I don't understand.
Especially since I'm doing the exact same thing. Conjurer, Gridania, spam button 1.

Not to place the responsibility squarely on you, but you aren't helpless either. Final Sting can be stunned.

Was just in an AK run which used an interesting tactic on the first boss.

That's less "interesting tactic" and more "exploit".

I need to start marking those bees, I usually don't think it's worth it because it's quicker for the dps to choose and I can just jump on the one he's killing, but there's a time when the 2 dps are killing different bees and they both uses final sting on me :lol

While novel, this is actually harder on the healer than the normal way because they have to waste so much MP to draw aggro. And they can't AoE heal the group after the AoE damage.
At any rate, SE is apparently banning people for doing anything they don't intend, so I'd watch out.

Also, who has trouble on the first boss ???
If a group can't kill the first boss in 3 or 4 tries good luck on demon wall lol.
