Low level gear didn't matter in XI either except for a few rare pieces that had exceptional stats and could be used for a long time like O-Kotes. The same design can be done for XIV easily by providing unique pieces of gear that can be used for a long time.

BCNMs were much more focused on high-level players as the game went on with a huge number of the battles being at the cap and then later iterations of the seals being largely for cap players as well. There were very few worthwhile rewards in the lower level BCs other than a few specific items like Utsusemi: Ni or the Peacock Charm.

Both of these elements can easily be mimicked in XIV though it'd break the basic design style they've chosen for gear currently. It wouldn't be a bad idea for them to though.

The way I see it is that low level gear was useful for a very long time, real earth time, as your character progresses. While in this game those items become useless in 2 days or a week, depending on play time, only to be disposed as a grade 1 or 2 materia that sells for 50gil anyway. At least you were able to sell a good amount of gear in the low levels to fund your gear for the higher levels.

Another problem is when you level a second job, you might as well wear gimped shit until 50, because in fates it doesn't matter how ill-equipped you are as long as you get in 10 rotations for that Gold medal.

No matter how you want to spin it, this game is less rewarding to the harder working players.

BCNM40 dropped the charms too no? I've only done a few, but BCNMs were also challenging and if you lose, oh boy did it hurt lol. The amount of preparation required was high, and I think that made the game so much better. I dont think much preparation is needed in this game. It's all about gear level. Simplistic and lame.

This place in Coerthas is supposed to look like this, right?

As war 50 with full DL and alot of experience in end game scene i can tell you that as war with best gear you can get you will still have a difficulty tanking anything beyond ifirt hard, i saw healers drop out of duty when they sees that war is main tanking, not because they are aholes or "lolnoobs"...they just know how it's going to end...one of you is going to die sooner or latter, my best advice to any war that want to be useful at the end of game..level pld...it's just like this right now..until SE find way to fix the job...

You have difficulty tanking Garuda and Titan HM in full DL?

Sorry, but another random question: I'm on my free-trial period for the game on the PS3. I wanna stick to the most basic subscription once my trial runs out. How many characters can I create with this? Is it just one, and an extra free for each additional character or does it include a few even for the basic model?

What the hell crafting can actually be fun

I think it's one for the basic subscription and 8 for the tier above.
Btw theoritically can a single character max out every class?

yay, my LS finally came together on AK. Now to grind the shit out of it.

yes. in fact, it's faster and easier to do it that way than with multiple.
extra characters is cosmetic/for people who want to belong to two guilds at once/+450 item storage.

I haven't done any end-game PvE in over a week now. Just been working on Mining, Botany, and Armorsmith. I eventually gave up on gathering my own stuff because the raw mats are so cheap, and I should have more than enough shards to get to 50 if I don't run out of leve cards first.

Pretty bummed. Asked for about 30 mins with no avail for any GAF-ers to run Praetorium with me, so I just solo queued. Ended up getting locked out of two fights (including the final battle) because I was watching cutscenes and one of the tanks was an asshole going "lolnopegottaspeedrunit"

At least the cutscenes were awesome, but still =/

How do you change a hotbar from horizontal to vertical? Or am I forced to use the premade vertical ones?

Go into the layout option from the systems menu. Some bars are vertical some are horizontal. To my knowledge there is no way to flip them. Hide the bars you don't want, and keep the ones you do want.

Yep. 1-6 are horizontal, 7-10 are vertical.

The basic (Entry) is one character per server, up to 8 characters for 12.99

I haven't progressed the story in a couple of weeks.

...Mining and harvesting are too addictive, as is crafting.

Plus, I keep dying during my ARC Lv 30 quest and the story quest.=/

ARC 30 quest is a bit of a pain. Get all the mages down first, and hopefully fast enough that the other girl doesn't die.

Okay thanks. I will adjust properly. Poor Cure 3, what is the problem with it?

Cure 3 costs more MP than cure 2, and has less cure potency. The special thing about it is that it has an AoE attached to it, but it is insanely small - 4 yalms. It's not completely useless, though. There are rare cases where the DPS are close enough for it to be useful, especially during Garuda HM. It's just not something you use commonly.

Fastest Garuda kill group you guys are bad ass.

and now on to Titan for Relic.

yay for losing roll twice for Garuda's Van. Staff > Cudgel

Is there a way to customize the map so that the story mode quests have priority? I have trouble finding the markers due to the other quests overlapping the story mode quests.

Not the girl I worry about. It's me once the second wave of physical fighters arrive. I get smashed to bits. =/

Just did that quest and got my summoner on the first try at lvl 30. Are you using your topaz pet? I had that thing just tank for me and right before it was about to die, I'd just resummon. Use Obey to control its AOE and have it hold aggro as you burn down 1 mob with your dots and heal yourself and the NPC when you get the chance.

Wanted to say thanks to GAF FC for making today way more enjoyable for end game stuff (AK runs, Ifrit HM, Relic Quest). Can't wait to get a full set of AF gear.

Hey, could I have some advice? I'm playing this with a friend and am kind of interested in playing Scholar. Thing is, I've never healed before (actually, I'm fairly new to MMOs in general). I played a Lancer to 31 and unlocked Dragoon on another character, and it was pretty fun, but I want something different. My other option is Black Mage because they're super cool (especially as a Lalafell).

So, would going Scholar be a good idea? I am worried that because I'll have to qeue as DPS Arcanist for the early dungeons, I'll have no idea what to do when I unlock the job and start playing it in the more challenging instances, especially since I'm new to healing.

if you don't like it you can always switch to summoner instead without having to level up another class

We did it insanely fast tonight too, in a different group. I'm still shocked. I've never seen Garuda go down on the first try, and never so quickly. Sadly we then wiped on Titan repeatedly. We just didn't have the DPS needed.
