Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT| Y'all Need to Calm Down

Sooooo, I haven't played since getting the Alexander gear when it was top tier. Got some friends that want to get on an MMO and I suggested FF14 since I still have character data. How many hours of gameplay am I from the current top tier?

Also, is the FC still active? I know my room in the old house has to be dead by now.

I made it to level 50 last night. Not done with ARR story yet, but getting there. Unlocked Samurai, man the moves are flashy af.

Also coming from Paladin which I JUST got a second AOE skill, having a whole AOE skill LINE feels weird.

Yeah, was another reason I was itching to come back. Loved the story in heavensward. How good is it in Stormblood?

I've got so much monk rotation retraining to do. I had just gotten all the side skills to finally pull my weight as dps right before I quit last.
 
Still have a lot to inside, but my outside is pretty much set. I can't believe I was able to get one of these plots. With the new swimming area right in front, it's just an amazing spot.

Was a pain in the ass gathering the mats for Moogle house. I had a Carby house on my small and that wasn't that bad. But the Carby Pillars just take up way too much space in a medium lawn. Wish I had thought of that earlier and transformed before relocation.

That's how Savage works. You can only queue for the floor you've "made it to" that week. So you go in order (also prevents you from queueing out-of-order and missing loot for a week.)

If you really want to skip to a later floor, you can join a party where the leader is on the floor you want to skip to, and once they take you in to the later floor you'll be able to go back later on your own. Doing this does make you ineligible for loot from the floors you skip.

So if you want loot from O1S every week, you need to do O1S first every week. If you want to skip to O2S, join an O2S PF and once you've zoned in, you're "on" O2S until you kill it that week, which moves you to O3S.
 
Decided to bite the bullet and save $18 by just playing through the 2.0 patch content.
Blasted through Moggle Mog, Levi, Ramuh, then Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan Hard.
8 man trials are super fun!
 
4.1's MSQ duty fight was actually really well done. A lot of the 4.0 duties just had you whittle away at a health sponge for like 5 minutes, this had tons of stuff going on and the boss's health didn't feel too inflated. More of these, please.

Oh yeah duh. I forgot about that. I’m still surprised I couldn’t find a party for Omega. Everyone on that Rabanastre.
 
Just started to play this game this week after a 10+ years gaming break.

I tried guild wars 2 but I didnt like it, then back to wow, meh and now this.

I like it so far but I was hoping more of a Everquest feel to it with more grouping and a stronger social side. Maybe because I'm only lvl 15, will it get any better? A guild would also help.

Did you try searching for the floor you wanted? I'm not sure how PF sorts, but stuff will get crowded off the first page of results and you may find a party or two that you didn't see in the main listing by going into search and picking the floor you want from the instance list.

Shinryu EX is going to soak up a lot of attention right now, but people should still be doing resets. Just getting crowded out of view by other stuff maybe.

Not sure why they felt the need to add bullshit jumping logs back. No one asked for that. That stuff was awful in ARR and flying made the logs more fun and closer to Assassin Creed style landmark collectibles, but then SB brings back a bunch of bad platforming ones ><

shinryu barding looks dope from the patch note picture, in tonberry it's being sold for 3 million last i checked
will probably farm shinryu for the scale and then ask some crafter to make it for me

Could be worst, at least there's no time/weather requirement. Except for two entries in 4.1 where one is at dawn and the other at night.

I'll say the Kugane one where this time you gotta do a running jump off the top of the hostelry to land on some lamp is a bit sadistic but thankfully it didn't take me long.

You are about 2levels away from doing your first dungeon with other people.

You can go and apply for the GAF guild if you are on Ultros server.
 
3 and a half months later and I'm finally here, the start of Stormblood. Skipped over a ton of the post MSQ content but man, it still doesn't detract from Heavensward being such a magnificent ride, and one of the best RPG experiences I've had.

Most importantly, No more sprout mark, hah! I've ascended from my casual status!
 
I got up to the
heads
in Shinryu Ex a couple times tonight. That's a little progress today. I keep having trouble surviving Akh Morn. I'm not good at cooldowns.

How good your group's DPS is will determine how many Akh Morn's you actually see, but if you're in a group that's keeping it together in P1 you hopefully only see 3. If you're a PLD, you can Hallowed one, have the other tank provoke and use an invuln skill on another (double PLD would be awesome here, but Holmgang or Living Dead work too) so you don't have to eat it, and then throw cool downs at the third one and have the tanks stack to soak.

My personal preference when healing is to have tanks CD the first, which is the shortest/least damage (Akh Morn adds 1 hit every time it happens) and happens when nothing much is going on, then invuln two and three. If things go horribly, horribly wrong and you see the fourth, you should have a mess of CDs back up to stack and soak.

Basically talk it out with your healers and tank to find out which one you should cheese.

I resent this trend largely because the fight seems tailor-made for "Skip Soar or disband" to make a resurgence; I watched a few streams today and am kind of blown away by how long the P1 rotation is. Our PF fill-in yesterday informed us all that there's a second Tidal Wave, so I was curious to see how much stuff he can do post-Aerial Blast. Turns out, quite a bit.
 
Yeah, haha. I joined a PF today after and I was shocked. I didn't even know about Aerial Blast or anything that followed.

Fight would have been better if he went through all those mechanics regardless and then you repeat the final phase until enrage/clear, I think. The last bit while kinda cool, isn't nearly as long as it should be IMO.
 
Hey GAF, was wondering if there is room for a casual FFXIV player in the GAF Free Company? I'm casual being I'm working and doing nursing studies but I do try to get in some play whenever I have free time.

Sadly I am on adamantoise. Wish I had started on ultros now, can I switch servers? :(

Playing a gladiator so far, going for a paladin. Was it a good choice?

Also my fc option is unavailable for the moment, is that normal?

You can transfer your character to a different server, but you'd have to spend some money for it. Considering you're only level 15, you're just better off making a new character on Ultros.

I don't have much experience with GLA/PLD, but they're a very solid tanking class. If you find that it doesn't suit you, you're free to pick up any of the other classes without any penalties once you reach level 10.

As for not being able to join an FC, they're unlocked once you are able to join one of the 3 grand companies. I forget at what point in the MSQ it happens but I think it's shortly after you finish the questline in your starting city.

I would highly recommend playing on Ultros to be part of the GAF server. GAF are super helpful and friendly. If you're only lvl 15 then it would be better to just start again. It will suck to redo the story stuff but at least now you can just skip the cutscenes. You can transfer but it costs real money and it's quick enough to get back to lvl15, the only issue is Ultros server isn't always open for character creation.

Gladiator/Paladin is a good choice for a tank. They are in a fantastic place this expansion with great mitigation and utility and they get the sickest looking move in the game right now at lvl70 (you know, not including Limit Breaks or boss attacks).

You can always just change you characters class to any other once you unlock them after you've reached level 10. Just do the starter quest to get the weapon and equip it. One of the best things about the FF MMOs is that a single character can do everything in the game so you don't need to worry about making a new character and going through the entire story again just because you want to give healing a try.

Believe it or not, people asked for it. I know a few in this thread who said that making it to the top of Kugane Castle was the best part of the expansion for them. I don't understand it either! But, I just ignore the sightseeing log.
 
I think I will create another character today and see if ultros is open.

I am not so sure about the tank build though. It feels pretty boring so far in most of the fights. Is there a useful long ranged class in the game?

I wanted to maybe try a healer but then again not so sure if it would be fun in the long run.

All the classes are useful.
If you want a long ranged DPS try Archer/Bard. If you want a more magic route then Thaumaturge/Black Mage is fun if you want big numbers and Arcanist can become both Summoner for DPS or Scholar for healing so you can have two high level classes with half the work.

Rogue/Ninja or Pugilist/Monk are probably the fastest classes to play and involve a lot of positional attacks so you're always on the move.

Ultros was open. I started a character there named And Dhre. I started an archer to become a bard. Will give it a try

It's a bit of a loss, yeah, but exp gain is still fast. I took a Rogue up to level 30 in like 10 hours last week.
Have you used a referral code yet? Using one will give you a headpiece that grants a bonus 3% exp until level 25.

Hey thanks, nice of you. Yeah I'm lvl 8 already it's not that bad. I will look on how to use that referral code and keep on playing after lunch.

I made two changes and it improved my gameplay experience a lot. Changed to a mouse/kb instead of controller and the ranged class is much more fun to me so far.

Oh yeah, with Gladiator/Paladin it is really boring till later. It's pretty much 1 combo till the approach to 60. DPS classes are fun but the issue is group times are a lot higher than Tanks or Healers (there are more DPS classes, people would rather DPS than Tank/Heal etc).

But while waiting for a group you can do other things? Kind of like WoW?

Also just figured out I can't join a guild, use a referral code or do some simple things like a /tell since I'm on the trial version.

I will get to level 35 at the end of the trial and then upgrade to the game.

Yeah, while waiting you can continue on quests or crafting or whatever else.

You should be able to use the referral code. In fact, you CAN'T use it once you've started paying for a subscription so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to on the trial.
 
think i've earned over 2 million just from spending like 6+ hours total from running uznair lost and hidden canals between yesterday and today
easy money, especially for someone who's still at level 0 dol and doh
furthest i've been is 3rd floor of hidden canals so far, 33.3% to progress is so much harder
