Is Niinou still the quest director of XIV in HW and SB? Since he directed DQB maybe he stepped aside?
Hildibrand is a treasure.Truly.
You assume correctly; Niinou is credited as an assistant director in ARR but is out of the credits in HW.
I can check when I get home but yes. It improved a lot in Heavensward.Do you know who took over? Has the quest design improved since then? Lol.

Looks like the person who took over is Mitsutoshi Gondai. I have no idea who he is or what his previous work was on. But yes, the quest design in Heavensward is a noticeable improvement over A Realm Reborn. Filler quests are almost entirely excised from the main storyline and the complexity of quests and uniqueness of individual quest goals and instanced duties is increased.
Edit: OK, looks like Gondai was Lead Battle System Designer on ARR and moved up to Assistant Director after Niinou's departure on Heavensward.

Well, no one else can seem to do anything without your help so...He really looks rather young in that 1.0 screen. Eorzea is a rough place.
Have fun. Some of the best writing in FF, period.Good job SE, bought the PS4 version :s
Now i have to go through all 3.1-3.4 content

Ok, guys, 3 quick general questions:
1. Is this game soloable?
2. Is there a lot of grind?
3. Is the story interesting?
1) Yes. There are mandatory dungeons and boss fights that require you to party with other people, but the Duty Finder lets you run those pretty easily.Ok, guys, 3 quick general questions:

So we Kung Fu Chocobo now?
Also why did they redesign / remove original protagonist boy?
Is it even the same person?
Worse than Stellagate IMHO. There was such resolve and strength in the eyes of the original design. He is too humble now. #Yoshida'sVision
But yeah same dude. That 1.0 version of him is 15 years younger you know.

Because I don't just think of things from how they effect me personally.
If I would want to solo the game (and do the required team dungeons), but only stick on to the main story, how much play time until the end of Heavenswards so I would be up to date with this expansion?
Raising specs/dropping legacy support is not a good thing in my eyes when it comes to MMOs. MMOs should be about longterm community building and over time should allow a variety of different specs to play the game, not updates to make things prettier/flashier.
Well you can always use the Trial. There are some limitations as to what you can do but you get 2 weeks free. You can buy the PS3 version for incredibly cheap. It's £2~ in the UK and will probably be similar wherever you are.
Now this isn't to play on PS3, but more because you get a free month of playtime for every device you register the Base game for. So that's 30 days plus the 2 weeks from the trial. You can probably even get the PC version of the game for incredibly cheap as well. I got a free code of it at Christmas time last year since they were basically handed out by Square. That's another 30 days
That's more than enough time to clear all of ARR up to the Heavensward expansion. It seems you have more free time than me as well so it should definitely be possible and that's all without paying any sub fee. If you decide you like it then you can even get the PS4 version for yet another extra 30 days and get Heavensward for that as well.
So yeah a total of 90 + 2 weeks can be gotten without paying any sub fee. The PC and PS3 versions will practically be free if you look around so the only thing you'll pay for really is the PS4 version and the Heavensward expansion on your platform of choice. That's enough time to see if you enjoy the game, and pretty much complete the entire scenario including the expansion (well up to 3.0 at least).
As for the other comparison to the other MMO's I can't really help you there. FFXIV is the only MMO I've played. Pretty much because it's on a console and plays incredibly well on a controller. I just have an extra keyboard for chat.
First of all, I said I had 34 hours per work week free, but I mean 3/4 hours lol.
Second, I thought that I had to but the PS4 Disc\Digital to play the PS4 version of the game.
What you are saying is that I can buy the PS3 version disc and use the 30 free days on the PS4 version? Without having to buy the PS4 Disc\Digital?
Also, can anyone compare me this game with Guild Wars 2? I know it's a hard thing to ask for, prolly...!
So what are the real implications of removing PS3 support? Will there be graphical improvements?
What the heck? Why is the DVD version from Square store $30 for game + heavensward but the download version is $60?

edit: Anyone know what happens if you do the 14 day free trial then buy the retail version? Do you lose 14 days of the 30 or something?

You get the 14 days then once you add a key you'll get 30 more, but the 14 days is limited feature wise and level cap wise.
If you're on PC here's the bundle for the game @ $27

Just activate the retail version after the 14 are up, you shouldn't get 14 subtracted when you sub, it's supposed to be a free trial, not a loan. Hope someone confirm it, I wouldn't put anything past SE but that would be pretty strange.
Ah, important question!
How is the Lore in FFXIV?
Will I be exploring the world and find amazing little lore details?
As a huge fan of almost every FF game, I find the story of ARR very boring and mundane. There are neat callbacks (a group of bandits by the name of The Corpse Brigade, a town named Costa del Sol) but overall the story is pretty underwhelming. It supposedly gets a lot better in the expansion.Ah, important question!
