Final Fantasy XV Announced for PS4

Makes we wonder at what point did SE and Nomura decide to turn this into 15. Feel bad for Sony since they had this exclusive in the bag for last gen, SE fumble all during the generation and now it's a new game and they lose the exclusivity.

If were lucky we'll get an update at TGS.

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with the exclusive thing, 80% of the fanbase will buy this for PS4, like MGSV. This will probably only exclusive in Japan.

It's not funny!!! I was one of those people. I feel so duped ;_;

Not that I regret getting a PS3 but it does kinda deflate a lot of my initial excitement over getting one. Maybe I should have shipped PS3 and just got a PS4 if they're backward compatible

Not funny, I've been waiting for this game since its first announcement back in 2006, and if it's no longer exclusive to the Playstation platforms, it'll make me hate Square-Enix more than ever
Yeah I mean funny in a sad ironic way, I don't really get any schadenfreude from the entire situation because all it ever meant is that a game I really want to play was delayed so much. In the end all I want is for it to be great.

I dunno.. Do you think FFXV and KH3 will do fine (obviously not better) on the Xbox One or to a more impossible extent, the Wii U? Because:

1. It seems like the Xbox One is getting less flak (or no flak) compared to the Xbox 360... And the fact that they're only launching at US and presumably UK as of now (late 2014 for Asia and supposedly the rest of Europe, no mention for JP at all). SE probably jumped FFXIII to 360 because of the broad Western market it has.

2. Nintendo home consoles post FFVI has no relevant history for FF and especially KH... Plus the Wii U isn't in a favorable spot right now.

I really think if it does become multiplatform, it will be for PS3 and/or PC.

No, they really didn't. The longer it went on, the more it seemed like it wasn't going to be exclusive anyway.

Now it's a mainline title, I expected it to be multiplatform. I was more surprised at Dead Rising 3 being Xbone exclusive. I know the first game was 360-only (kind of) but I thought Capcom had decided to go multiplatform all the way sometime last gen.

By the way, in how many hours does the Square Enix livestream start?

Scripted set pieces out the ass. I feared as much from those trailers they showed way back when.

Some of that looks like a Japanese version of God of War/Uncharted. This is not what I play Final Fantasy for.

Uhh.. wut? The first trailer with actual gameplay showed vast open spaces, for the most part, with some fights inside a building and one more cinematic setpiece. This was obviously a trailer that was supposed to impress and running around in some forest isn't something that necessarily would.

I'm sure these games would help move those systems. Wii U's lack of third party support always seemed like a shitty reason for the lack of third party support and Nintendo and KH seem like a match made in heaven. Don't know how they'd do relative to a Sony console version, though.

Noon PST.

It really doesn't matter if it's 'exclusive' or not, the... other console is redundant.

It doubly doesn't matter when you consider that the PS4 is the more capable machine, and it will probably look better on PS4, just like XIII did on PS3.

They can do Dead Rising 3: Off the Rails! And it will technically be a different game and it'll be on PS4 probably.

MS lost a ton of their exclusives after a year or two on 360. Even Mass Effect fully came over.

Yes
It's probably lead developed on PS4, and PS4 has better hardware, is cheaper to buy, and has no anti-consumer bollocks. Anyone choosing the Bone version over it would just be silly.

Honestly, I think those were just for the show. What's a final fantasy game without long stretches of fighting hordes of money dropping wildlife? I don't think we should have XIII expectations from this, it's not the same team after all. Nomura and the KH team are a lot better than Toriyama & co at creating fairly linear experiences that feel larger. If what they're saying about the gameplay is true, I'm expecting the ability to freely move between areas after a certain point, and some interesting side quests that tie in with side character development at the very least. It's really unlikely to be all tunnels and QTEs.

Judging from the city map, the game is definitely open world a la MGSV. They're also teasing this from centuries so I expect a FF-GTA all the way.

exactly what the details were on the first few famitsu interviews. Im glad the concept and vision Nomura had for this game is fully intact

unlike XIII

Agree, MS didn't even bother speaking of a japanase release for its console, so why the japanese studios should bother bringing PS4 games to the X1

It's not really about the other console getting it (or which platform has more exclusives etc), it's about attention being diverted away to port it or develop for the other platform.

Exclusives tend to be of a higher quality than multiplatform games.

They're also playing it easy in traveling this huge world by giving noctis a "grappling hook" (teleport in his case) so he can go everywhere without getting stuck in buildings. Sort of Spiderman/Just Cause. Infact if you notice in the video Noctis can "attach" himself to anywhere he points his cursor. Enemies or walls.

I really hope the open world doesn't kill the level design.

Exclusivity matters little to me, since the Xbone doesn't even exist in my mind.

I'm just so fucking happy to see this game, especially with its original vision (modern fantasty theme, open world, real time combat) intact :D

Airships are gonna be in this too tho so im excited about that. I think there arent enough if at all any true open world JRPGS.

I generally take a non-confirm on exclusivity to mean it's multi-plat, but considering:

1. FFvXIII was supposed to be a PS3 exclusive and is the next gen roll over of that effort.
2. All the rumors about that roll over and this being shown at Sony's show also suggested Sony was helping a lot with the update.
3. Square Enix still hasn't announced Kingdom Hearts HD collection OR Kingdom Hearts 3 for anything but Playstation either, and KH HD is getting close to release.

I'm wondering if there isn't something going on. On PS2 and PS1 Sony did a lot of global marketing for the Final Fantasy brand as long as Square kept it exclusive. It might be that the two parties are holding off until it's closer to ready to firm up details on how the market will stand. If Sony's price point and superior hardware result in them taking the lead in the U.S. by the time this is ready the generation will be effectively over and Sony has no reason to spend millions advertising Square's game. If the Xbox One instead breaks away to a strong lead in the U.S. by then Square is going to value exclusivity far more than they would otherwise. Neither one can really put a price tag on how much exclusivity means to them at this point.

The character designs to me look like a more matured version of FFXII designs.

I really love it.

Can not wait to get some full art renders of some of these.

OK, so I never paid any attention to Versus or any of the other FF13 games after playing vanilla FF13, so is this like, FF15: Yet another fucking continuation of FF13 except we're calling it FF15, or is it completely separate from FF13?

completely separate. shares similar concepts with the mythology (crystals and gods), but that's all

Ugh, backstreet boys and an action BS is not the future i imagine for FF, i really wished this would have stayed as a spin-off.

Also, i wonder how scripted everything is.

So where will I be able to watch a live stream of this Future of FF press conference? I have the day off today so I'll be ablt to grab some snacks and enjoy it live.

Also, thanks for the trailer Stuburns. Downloading now :)

When they approached Sony after the FFXIV 360 fiasco (MS apparently wanted a cut from the monthly fee and gold online only), Sony requested total exclusivity for the game (in exchange for helping for server costs) and they still wouldn't say yes.

My guess is they are waiting to see what is going to happen to XBone and Wii U, but they have nothing set in stone. If PS4 succeeds the way PS2 did albeit in a smaller way, nothing is gonna happen.

CBOAT said unless we hear the word exclusive then it's multiplatform. I didn't think it would end up exclusive either tbh, the 1m copes XIII sold on the 360 can easily be built upon.
