But what about if they had been friends with them since childhood? All these guys have known each other for a long time, or at least that's what I thought while playing through. Lots of good-natured ribbing amongst friends.

That's my impression too. On some level, Noctis doesn't take being a prince seriously, and his friends pick up on that and run with it, and he likes it because it makes him feel like one of the guys. I imagine Cor will knock some heads over the informality when he's rolling with them.

The issue is Ignis seems to take him being prince seriously. He always calls him "highness" which is really weird. I think his character just comes off as condescending, I am unsure if that's the intent or what.

In my opinion, a lot of the condescending tone comes from his voice actor. He just has that "I overly enunciate my syllables so I'm better than you" kind of tone

Hmm, it always sounds ironic to me (and yes, somewhat condescending, but in a know-it-all friend kind of way, not an insubordinate-dick kind of way).
 
Just played a little of this, and I'm definitely liking the improvements. The camera in battle is sooo much better, and the combat feels so smooth. I also really like the unite attacks; I've only done the one with Gladiolus so far but I thought it was pretty cool; I'm looking forward to seeing what the others are like. I didn't have time to find the dinosaur thing tonight, but I definitely plan to look for it tomorrow; hopefully it's not too hard to find.

I forgot how much fun this demo was; the combat just feels great, and the animations all look so natural. I can't wait to play the finished game!!
 
From the looks of all the characters he was the one I was most excited about but after playing...I just think he is a dick lol.
 
Ignis annoys the hell out of me. His stupid bedazzled gloves, his dumb hair, his dumb voice. What a lame character.

I always thought he looked like C. Viper

I hope the scenes with the guys on the tour missions are voiced in the final version because the subtitles go too fast! I'm barely catching what they're saying!!!

Which had the same exact function as the dodge roll I think lol

I was actually wondering about this... Did most people just never realize that you had a manual teleport dodge the entire time? Or is this dodge roll really something different?

You have to camp again to trigger the Tour quest with Prompto which is how the dinosaur thing comes out of the lake so you can fight it.

The voice acting in the game seems SO disjointed... like.. it feels like the lines were recorded and copy/pasted together to try to form sentences, but it just feels so awkward. Hopefully it's just due to it being a demo and not how it'll be in the final game. Even XIII has far better VA than this.

It might have some difference. I don't know for sure.

I assume they will both be customizable options in the full game though, and maybe they branch off in terms of what they're useful for when you level them up or something.

It costs no MP.

Additionally from watching streams, I get the initial impression that this manual dodge is a little more clunky and takes a little longer to recover from (I abused the hell out of manual warpdodge in 1.0 to drop Claymore counterattacks on things) but that could very well be placebo.

No idea on invincibility frames in comparison.

edit@above: They pretty much confirmed in ATR 5.0 that there are indeed different moves/movesets that can occupy the same buttons and are options in the main game. Warp dodge was a higher level skill compared to the normal one.

You can't force a counter attack with the dodge roll, so there's already that difference. The teleport dodge probably spent MP though, can't quite remember right now.

Or if they're not voiced, just make them stop and let me advance the dialogue at my own pace.

I personally didn't have problems reading any of the non-spoken dialogue. But damn, that is a thing that irritates me. Only auto-skip stuff when you have voice acting!
 
The performance was definitely improved, at least in the PS4 version.

I'm still not convinced the framerate was improved. I had a ton of drops in some of the areas by the gas station. It didn't give a good first impression when I was sub 30fps as soon as my game loaded. It feels like the fps drops a lot when there's a lot of enemies on screen too which happens often due to those soldiers that drop-down so often.
 
Does anyone know when cross chain attacks activate? It happens all the time in regular battles when an enemy is downed but it never happens during the Behemoth fight, at least not for me. They'd be mighty useful during boss battles to deal with their insane amount of hp.
 
I took the tour with Glad and now I can't trigger tours again. Therefore I can't trigger the Catoblepas fight.

Does anyone know how can I retrigger the tour quest so I can go with Prompto this time?

Try camping three times, if that doesn't work, go to camp in the upper-right part of the map.
 
I got some brief time with it. Definitely feels a bit sharper overall.

The dodge roll feels good to use but the animation canceling is the most important thing in that regard. I'm learning to keep my finger near L1 for it's multiple uses.

The framerate is not ideal yet, but just from moving the camera I got this feeling that the performance is better than v.1.0.

Tried the demo 2.0 out, aside from the performance which scares me a bit to be perfectly honest, the game is much improved. Best part is the camera which now controls well and gives a better a view of the battlefield. The actual combat has a much smoother flow to it now and gels well with the new chain attacks. Never noticed before but the other members use special attacks that get displayed next to their name. Like Prompto using Bullet Parade or some like that. Love the new movesets, looks cool and the greatsword charge up looks funky when Noct starts glowing. Overall, mechanics are coming together nicely and this is without magic and team tactics.

Can't wait ^_^
