In al seriousness, I love my Final Fantasy share and I really enjoyed FFXV (and I also think Tabata is the nicest person to set foot on Square Enix in a very long time), but I'm not sure I like this approach they're having with the "game as a service" thing.

I prefer my FF games done and complete (just as Sakaguchi prefered on his time). But I realize this is 2017 and not the 90s anymore, so I guess I must be grateful for what I can get, no?

Of course we didn't want them to release the game in the state they did and god I hope they learned the lesson for FFXVI. But would you rather have them completely drop the support for the whole game and call it a day? Like what happened with Mass Effect. EA didn't commit to fixing the problems the game had, intead they axed the franchise for the foreseeable future. S-E extended FFXV post release schedule to keep adding the things fans are asking for.

It doesn't make any sense, but it's such a waste that we can only summon 4 out of the 6 Astrals. At the very least, they can add Bahamut and Ifrit to NG+, which is already kinda lore breaking.

I'd also love a Knights of the Round summon once you obtain the final weapon. Kind of like the (spoiler!) scene in the ending.

GaaS is a mobile game? I think the "games as a service" approach is more acceptable on a mobile game than on a AAA game like FFXV, as with TB2.

As a result of the hundreds of millions of dollars SE throws away for the protracted development on the game. They would become extremely conservative. Say goodbye greenlighting potentially risky projects like Nier: Automata for example. They would probably focus more on safe money makers like mobile stuff and ARR, anything potentially considered risky or trying something new would be largely ignored as a result of the cancellation. I don't think you realize what you are truly asking for and how much worse things would be if that did happen.

Yeah, I don't even want a portion of the team still working on a single player game over a year after it released. Put them all on other projects. They've supported XV a ton. I used to defend it but saying they plan on going into 2018 with story updates is ridiculously silly.

Yep, I feel the same way. Mostly because the game needs so much work to fully fix all the gameplay and story holes/flaws that patching isn't enough. No amount of patching will make up for the lack of the Insomnia battle at the start of the game and needing to watch Kingsglaive instead. No patch will fix the woefully short Tenebrae section and all the "back on the train!" sections that make up the rushed second half of the game. No patch will magically make Luna's character seem important. That would require a FFXIV Realm Reborn style makeover, and every time the team tries "patching" the game with random Kingsglaive cutscenes and the like it feels as messy and haphazard as this kind of "fix":

The game sold well. It will always have its supporters who can see past the flaws and, more importantly, understand why those flaws exist. Now it's time for Square to learn from these mistakes and make sure they don't affect the next FF entry.

This is how I feel about it as well.

It's one thing to go back and tamper with an original vision. But I don't consider that to be what they're doing with XV. It's more like they're stuffing that original vision into a game that lacked it due to time constraints.

The biggest problem isn't with XV itself. It's with fans potentially holding off on XVI due to expecting the game to be significantly better months later, after both content and balance patches. If people expect that precedent from the XV experience, it could negatively impact XVI's launch sales. Potentially a lot.

No, the world building was too ambitious and created a true mess of a story. The game just wanted to do too many things that it was beginning to really lose itself at parts. The story would be fantastic if all the world building wasn't so messy and the parts remained consistent. Noctis reading a newspaper to find out about his home being invaded is actually silly for one. The black screens at the end of chapters are also very inconsitent with the next scenes. But no... it won't be easy to fix the messy bits. This game needs another year or 2 to be finalized for real.

I wonder how people would react if mainline Final Fantasy games were treated more like Final Fantasy XIV?

Not in the sense that the game stories end on a cliffhanger (FFXV's story was completely concluded), but that updates flesh out the world in a way that a single development period couldnt?

FFXV's story having a 10-year gap to accommodate Comrades is actually pretty cool, but such a story continuation would have been easily possible with games like FF7 (SOLDIER chronicles, carry out missions for Shinra) or FF8 (SeeD chronicles, choose a Garden and be a mercenary)


An ability to either create your own character, or assume the role of a different one, and experience the same game world from a different perspective. I don't think that model for mainline FF would be such a bad thing TBH.

Like, if Kingsglaive or Brotherhood didn't exist, and Square instead devoted time to an "expansion" that covered all of that material in-depth instead, i think it would actually be pretty good for the game.

For Comrades DLC, can you play really play offline or single player but always online like Destiny?

While it makes me feel a bit doubtful about the future of FF as a whole, I have to commend Tabata's dedication to XV to fix everything wrong with the game. On the con side, the game was veeery clearly rushed and the original trilogy story compressed all the way into a single game at the very last minute. On the plus side, the non-DLC patches, fixes and general support has been a highlight for me as SE could have clearly cashed in on the game and run. On the so-so side, DLC has been hit or miss, but it clearly improved with Episode Prompto and it makes me feel jopeful for the team's ability to tell a story.

They aren't "revising" the story. They are adding to it. No lack of confidence there. If they did lack it they would just gave up on it soon after release. It's clear the dev team have a lot of heart and care about the game and their shared vision.

No. The story is not the problem. It's how it's told and what was missing, that's the problem. And that's what they're adding. The story in its entirety is really, really good. It doesn't need a total reworking. That is absurd. What it needs is more scenes and scenarios depicting things like the Astrals, Luna, and Ravus.

Some people's problems at launch weren't with how things played out or character motivations, but rather what they felt was missing and information on specific characters. Things like that can be fixed. I am glad the team is doing this rather then abandoning it. FF is a legacy series. People go back and play through the games all the time and the games will get enhanced ports with more story/gameplay. So they are doing that for this game so when people do go back to this game it will be a better experience.

A lot of people (many on this forum in fact) asked for them to "just focus on story." That is what they are doing now.

Koozek's info makes things look a heck of a lot better. But single player content in Comrades interests me. I know that we had the option to go single player before in the beta but this sounds more fleshed out.

PC ver is just the bros dlc included. It will still be missing stuff.. I'll say this even with the story additions that won't change the opinion of the majority. The issues will still be present and to those waiting for everything to be added can't wait for the "this is it?" Just play the game as it is.

They aren't "revising" the story. They are adding to it. No lack of confidence there. If they did lack it they would just gave up on it soon after release. It's clear the dev team have a lot of heart and care about the game and their shared vision.



No. The story is not the problem. It's how it's told and what was missing, that's the problem. And that's what they're adding. The story in its entirety is really, really good. It doesn't need a total reworking. That is absurd. What it needs is more scenes and scenarios depicting things like the Astrals, Luna, and Ravus.

Some people's problems at launch weren't with how things played out or character motivations, but rather what they felt was missing and information on specific characters. Things like that can be fixed. I am glad the team is doing this rather then abandoning it. FF is a legacy series. People go back and play through the games all the time and the games will get enhanced ports with more story/gameplay. So they are doing that for this game so when people do go back to this game it will be a better experience.

A lot of people (many on this forum in fact) asked for them to "just focus on story." That is what they are doing now.

I'm definitely replaying this game + all DLC once they end support (assuming the added content is added to the story).

I enjoyed the game, but it definitely needed some more work. I am thrilled that they acknowledged that and are providing updates beyond the DLC.

• Monsters of the Deep is Part 1 of the VR games. They already have plans to further develop a part 2 using their new found experience with part 1.
• An exclusive team has been working hard to develop Episode Ignis as the front of FFXV's last officially announced DLC. It will be filled with new information.
• A trailer for Episode Ignis may be available next month.
  
• Tabata and the dev team has been thinking if it's really okay to just let it ''end'' with Episode Ignis. With the survey that was done earlier this year, taking in the feedback of the players, everyone including Tabata, Ofuji and the development team thought about what they should do. FFXV has been to many different events all throughout the world and Tabata has been to each of them, meeting and talking to the fans. He asked what they liked, what they wanted and what they disliked. He thanks to all those that supported him and he says that after speaking to everyone, the biggest voice was ''Please don't let it end there'' and ''We want you to continue''. The demand for a bigger expanded story was big.
• Tabata wants to respond to these demands from the fans. They want to continue expanding the game through 2018 next year.
• He clarifies that as a company there are set plans and schedules and changing them is difficult. He apologizes that as a developer, their goal is to create new games. And he states that BD2 already has finalized their next big project, considering that, they thought about how they could balance this and continue to support FFXV next year. After after overcoming many obstacles and changing the structure of the development team, they are able to say that they are able to continue development next year.
  
• They already have plans for what to accomplish next year and that is delivering on what fans want most. They will continue to and further development the story, filling up missing information.
  
• It's not going as far as a sequel, but it's about the strengthening of the existing game and story. Tabata acknowledges that there were lacking aspects of the game. Not just the back stories of the characters or character development, but also with the world and lore as the world itself has a story of it's own. They have received much feedback on these fronts as well as in the survey and they worked hard until now to create a development structure to be able to deliver with everything we got. And again now, they are able to say, that this will be happening.
  
• With the next update including story upgrades, it is based on the Summons. And this is just part 1 of the updates to come hereon.
  
• In the update will also include a connection to Episode Ignis that Tabata thinks is a very important part of the story that players should know.
  
• With that, they will continue to develop the world and it's characters in FFXV next year.
  
• Probably within this year, they will announce the roadmap of what they want to do next year.

Just putting those scenes in doesn't fix it entirely.

The reason why people say the game needs a rework is because the structure itself is poor, the current structure doesn't really allow exploration of the story much more. You spend most of your time in Lucis, and really, considering how much time you spend in it, not a great deal happens. You infiltrate a base, jared gets wacked and you awaken your power in both weapons and summons. Then you get out of your homeland and the story pacing ramps up, but forgets to show you half of it, or give much gameplay for it (outside of exploring some random quarry and the empire's base).

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Lucis is the problem here, I think that would have been fine as the start of the journey, a decent build up to something more. However, if I didn't already know how many chapters there were in the game going in, I'd have expected Lucis to be a third of the game, not close to three quarters of it.

They'd need to add a lot of gameplay into that final chunk of the game to make it not feel like a rushed mess that was cobbled together because they ran out of time. Which frankly, isn't happening, it's too much work.

It's a shame, because I think the world seemed very interesting, but you literally just see a window glimpse of it.

Can't blame you, lol. Young Noctis looks so silly; they should've made him look more similar to the superior Old Noctis design, just a bit younger face-wise so there's still a visible difference between the two.

Fair enough, but the reality is they couldn't first time around, so now that they can do something about it, should they not? If they actually manage to improve the story substantially enough future ports/remasters will profit from it and at least new players will get a better game (and fans who want to replay it someday).

I guess I'm just not a fan of the GAAS model that they have been pushing with XV, especially in the case of a huge single player RPG. I feel like it's unfair to everyone who paid the full price (my condolences to the poor souls who bought the UCE) at the game's release when someone who maybe paid less because they bought the game half a year later gets a more polished experience.
