Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

I know the summary in the OP is meant to be a joke, but it's a very disingenuous one. Clear and direct answers to many of those questions were given. Will newcomers to the thread understand that it's just "GAF humor?"

Eh, the damage has been done. Some mods really don't care and seems as if they just want the game to fail.

I have to say, for a forum that encourages discussion, it really doesn't make sense for mods to discourage it like this. Discussion of the game only began not too long ago for people who actually skimmed through the information instead of reading the OP.

This part isn't even true.

We're nowhere near done. (they didn't say this per se, but it's obvious looking at the state of things)

Oh please.

If someone wants to make a better summary go for it.

There is no need to be so bothers by how this game is or isn't discussed unless you're part of the marketing/dev team.

The summary in the OP is fine, it's just not PR Approved™.

Don't take Nirolak so seriously.

99% of his posts are serious. Posts about this game are the exception to the rule.

A lot of people want the game to do well even if Gamescom was ass.

Re: the "summons" stuff - people are really trying to give Tabata credit for something the games have been doing for 20 years?

LOL

Edit: Unless the summons have very clearly defined personalities with multiple interactions with the party and everything, they're not going to push the needle any further on summons.

I'd just file it under the same category as Toriyama claiming that Lightning is the "first female protagonist" in the series.

Just saw this in the Avalanche/Square collab thread FFXV World is enormous. Lucis is about almost half the size of GTA V insane if real.

King Regis was my favorite character, and honestly I was drawn to the game because of him and his design. He looked like a businessman/yakuza, and his name betrayed his role and was an interesting contrast to that.

Now he's just a king named King Regis who looks like a king. King king king king ?
Subtlety gone.

What about a demi-god that is part of the universe's constitution? As if ramuh is a kind of zeus and leviathan is a kind of Poseidon?

And I understand that, but that doesn't negate how silly it is on really any level. That's the thing about fans though. It's not enough to hope the game is good, it has to "do well" too. That's how fans are, but you have to rein that in at a certain pint. Complaining about facetious OPs? Chill.

Heh, definitely.

I mean, that's more or less the twist with
FFX
, no?

I mean if the wold does turn out to be this big in scale and the gameplay/story delivers this game will be a landmark title

It's Ohfuji's idea apparently. Dude needs to really take a step back and reconsider.

Can't believe they're actually going through with it lol. Gamecom reaction was just the beginning if they keep making more PR mistakes. Hope the team's spirits aren't easily broken.

I dunno why you think I care about the OP changing either way. It is what it is. SE sucked at gamescom and this is what they get. I didn't care about it 74 pages in and it really doesn't matter.

It's does seem like this game has a never ending budget at this point lmfao.
It's like and the marketing team proves they don't really care if this game sells or not, I pity them.

I can tell a lot of work is going into this game despite the changes.
It's not anyone's goal to sabotage this game I'm sure they want it to be the best it can be.

Not you, the other poster that brought it up. The guy going to the trouble to do a new summary. LOL

I personally believe the game's world could be this enormous, especially if they actually use the Just Cause tech they were in talks of bringing in.

They've already clearly showed multiple areas of insane size from the Malboro swamp area to Accordo. Duscae itself was already big and yet the demo even blocked off the full size of it.

The big question is how square is gonna fill in that space. If it's just boring walking and the occasional same enemy encounter it'll get boring real fast.

It's not that bad if they go the Witcher III route of randomizing the elements and then filling in key areas. So large parts will be landscape. But the key cities will have more exact, handcrafted elements (with tons of gating of regions or small towns).

Summary of all the ATR's info:

  • "Dawn" trailer was a teaser for story events that happen before the game's beginning. Shown to reassure that the more dramatic tone of Versus is still in, along new(?) themes like camaraderie between friends and the bond between father and son. More informations later.
  • King Regis has been redesigned. There is a reason for this, altough it has not been explained yet.
  • Narration of the game's incipit along new artworks.
  • There are plans for airships in the game. At the moment, they can make it work at bird's eye view level, but want to make it higher altough it's technically more difficult, but in any case they definitely want the feature to be in the game. If not at release, then patched later. Collaboration with Avalanche Studio is supposedly related.
  • Game's developement is proceeding well, according to their plans (around 65-76%).
  • Release date for the game is set, announcing at Pax East when the announcement will happen. Now have a solid and precise schedule for information release.
  • Prologue for the game has been changed. There is a reason behind the change.
  • Luna is a strong character.
  • Girl with black hair is still in, team is still deciding her name.
  • There is a main villain, and the team is aware fans expect a charismatic and memorable character typical to the series. Too early to reveal anything related.
  • Preparing a FFXV official forum.
  • The plans for the marketing campaing is to start from zero for both fans who have been following the game before and people who don't know the game/don't follow it's developement. Also all the marketing before was mostly targeted at promoting Episode Duscae. Hence why they've shown the "Dawn" trailer and story's incipit, and why they'll show this trailer again at both Pax East and TGS. There will still be new clips of in-developement footage like the Malboro fight for this events, as well as new informations.
  • They are planning another demo in the future (confirmed in an interview to not be a gameplay one but more similar to a tech demo).
  • New footage shows a new area that player visits around halway through the game. Around 70-80% complete, quality will greatly improve. "Fight" against a Malboro shown, it uses it's famous Bad Breath attack, supposedly impossible to defeat with only physical attacks.
  • Product placement for german beer.

Please let me know if there's something incorrect or to be added.

Please, include the beers anyway.

Heh i was going to keep it anyway.

I personally have no problem with an ironic OP, but a legit summary would help mitigate some of the crazy discussions we see, and you can notice that some people who didn't follow these days through only received distorted news which certainly don't help.

I really don't care if a large part of the world is empty, personally. As long as I can get where I want to go in smoothly.

I agree... A feedback forum for this game/marketing campaign/demo is going to open a very bad can of worms. Doesn't matter if its trolls, sincere critique, or indifference... It will be hell.

- Enemy variety ( gives us King Malboro special types for each monster but to trigger this you need to undergo sidequests )

- Sidequests: important feature, if they can create meaningful ones even if they're just a few it can work and everyone will be happy.

- Minigames: a must

- Ultima weapons farming/hunting plus good normal weapons at shops.

- Hidden summons throughout the land outside from the main ones in the story

These are just somethings came to mind that could fill the world and it would help tremendously.

The official feedback forum is going to be fucking terrible. I remember the shitshow that the ARR beta forums were. I can't imagine this being any better.

Heh, i actually spent a lot of time in my high school days making up a game like this in my mind: and old school 16-bit FF where you play as Odin and other summons in humanized forms that cover the various class roles (Odin the Knight, Shiva the black mage, Bahamut the dragoon and so on) in a quest to retrieve their "esper" form, which then you could use in battle.

Fuck it SE should just hire me.

Lol that would nev-- wait, that's actually an awesome idea...

Yup, even with an ironic OP and lots of drive-bys, this thread is going to look like tea with the Queen in comparison.

FFXV feedback forum?

Square Enix has been keen on distancing themselves unofficial community spaces for Japanese titles.

It's likely that they want to create a place where they can take control of "the message" but I'm not sure they're aware of the unspoken rule of official forums.

(They're a shitshow largely because they intersect customer service and enthusiast mindsets, which is why many flee to unofficial, satellite communities.)

Well they can use real world locations for inspiration for the in game, so they have a lot to work with in terms of making it all look good, and adding in the fantasy elements.

They can bring back basically all the old school FF enemies, and it's still shown that even the same species come in different colors and sizes for variety, places to farm for crafting mats if there is even such a system.

Mini-games, fishing, chocobos, maybe platforming sections where Noctis can warp from point to point and get a high view, more stuff I probably can't think of.

Hidden Chests, Hidden Dungeons, Armiger weapons, Accessories, Regular weapons with their own abilities EX: Blood Sword with Drain Blade ability.

All in all the overall size of it will indeed simulate a real road trip with some buddies.

So I don't doubt this will be a good thing.

Yep... even the current FF14 forums are full of garbage.

Yeah, I stayed for the alpha forums, left the forums during the beta and never looked back. 90% of threads were "THIS GAME WILL FAIL IF X FROM FFXI ISN'T IN IT"! I shudder to think what allowing the Final Fantasy fan community at large in to give feedback on a massive scale could do to this game.

Oh, and maybe hidden summons and extra powerful enemies in extreme/inaccessible environments, and hidden triggers for epic bro questing, and bushes from which sticks can be harvested and sharpened for marshmallow roasting.... Shit, I'm getting all excited thinking about this stuff. Not healthy with so long to go yet.
