Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

lol...im not referring to the regis change, when i say im scared for this franchise
Im scared because im not really confident in Tabata delivering with this title, after what i saw this year & after playing type 0
And if FF15 doesn't deliver.....i don't want to think about it

I'm not confident anyone can deliver on any game titled Final Fantasy.

I still have this slated to release 2018.
You want to know something even crazier than what is happening here?
What do you think Square's release pattern means for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
That shit is not coming out this generation.

So what we know about the changes to the game is something like this:

-Stella gone
-The party scene where they explain Etro and was the "meeting predestined by the divine" gone
-Since Stella is gone, is it safe to think that a Noctis vs Luna scene or fight is gone too?
-The invasion with the main characters in the city gone.
-The reunion of Lucis and Niflheim representatives where they point guns and magic swords at eachother is probably gone or changed
-Noctis ordering Ignis to think of a way to get revenge a 100 times worse is likely gone
-Cor maybe changed or gone too
-The leviathan scene most likely changed since the characters can't swim
-Are the powers to see the light of dying souls still in the game?

My thinking too. FFVII remake is likely UE4 and with KH3 being UE4 and showing nice progress, I think SE should stick with it from now on if it can get them the results quickly. They can be such a productive publisher, but this whole idea of developing a game while developing an new high tech engine doesn't seem to mesh with them. Look at what happened with FFXIII and what is happening with FFXV.

It's honestly a shame. Luminous looks so impressive. But with UE4, they can be really productive like other Japanese developers.

I had this really long semi-angry rant about how you guys were overreacting, but I decided against posting it. All I'll say instead is that I think people might be overreacting here. I understand that changes to things that already seem great suck and the game has been in development for what feels like eternity, but is there no reason to give Tabata and his team the benefit of the doubt here?

I just hope others here are questioning the validity of what messages others are posting regarding this instead of letting it all roll into a big ball of hate for a guy who I feel doesn't deserve it. Especially not .gif memes calling him trash, anyway.

no, there is no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt anymore. They should completely shut up about the game until they have something significant to show.

The girl with black hair? We haven't named her yet.
Main baddie? Who knows.
Stay tuned for PAX when we'll show the same trailer.
Lol. Luna's the love interest finace now. Shocking. Still get bad vibes from her no matter what the devs say about her being "strong". I bet they thought Rem and Serah were strong too.

I'ts so surreal to know That I've been following this game for 9 years and something as basic as the villain, basic plot details, and character names are STILL not decided. That is really something.

Not bashing the game either. I happen to look forward to it (albeit less than I used to), and there are so many aspects that are impressive. But for every positive thing I hear, there's something to be pessimistic about. I've never had such mixed feelings before lol.

I think and hope it will be luminous...surely they will iron out engine issues during the development of this game? I certainly like the results when they come in. The engine can look extremely impressive, it just a pity it seems to have so many issues. I think FFXV is more ambitious visually than KH 3, even though the latter looks great as well and seems a lot more polished.

Games always look polished in trailers. Once they show a playable build it's always downgraded or not optimized. What we saw today doesn't really give me an indication Luminous is causing problems. The fact that they couldn't even bother with getting Regis a voiceover for 8 words tells me they probably rushed getting a polished up footage for Gamescom right after finishing up the demo patch. KH3 probably isn't anywhere near as complete as XV.

Here's an early-access released UE4 open world game, supposed to release next year, trailer gameplay vs actual gameplay.

It's best to forget any of that happened. For as awesome as all that stuff looked, that was all shown when Nomura was still involved.

Why are people saying that they don't have a villain finalized? Or that they don't actually have a name for the black-haired girl? Of course they do.

I'm extremely pissed off too but that doesn't mean I'm just going to shut off my brain.

No, Tabata said they don't have a name for her, not even internally.

Why is everybody questioning Cor's continued in-game presence?

Maybe they are purposefully trying to deflate the hype so that it will be better than expected when it comes out. Can't fool me SE.

Ito says hi :)

Cute. I'm trying to drive the point that any game with the name Final Fantasy will always be scrutinized to the nth degree regardless of who makes them. The long development history, and constant changes aren't really helping FFXV. It has way more stacked against it.

Driver-san gone too.

Looking at this, I'm feeling they are changing the game for a more traditional FF plot.

=(

Well, I hope they do show something signifcant at TGS to make everyone happy again.

Is there a point of no return for any of you at which you'd just say "I'm out"? Like a specific change happening or a mechanic that you feel is a wrong fit for the game?

The Game Is 65% Complete. If we count the years when the game was still FFVersusXIII this makes almost 9 years if not more. Waht does that mean? 2-3 years won't be enough to release the game?

Sooo i take it that the dope city battle from the first trailer is gone too eh :(

Maybe the Leviathan sequence as it was shown (they probably going to change how its approached), but other then that they haven't commented I would think its still in.

That video shows a horrendous (and hilarious) deception. Can't believe the devs showed that...The video is genious though.

Well, we did see Scalebound on UE4 and it looks pretty good overall. Still, I just feel luminous is a lot more ambitious visually. I think that is one of the problems in them getting it optimised for consoles. They have a beast of an engine and it is difficult to get it to work.

It is so hard to follow the development of this game if you haven't been there since the very beginning.

It's very hard to determine what is actually part of the game still.

Reworked ATR summary:

  • We redesigned Regis. No reasons given.
  • Airships? We're behind and still working on it, maybe as DLC.
  • We're nowhere near done. (they didn't say this per se, but it's obvious looking at the state of things)
  • We can't announce a release window, even if we do have one.
  • Important questions about black bars and cosplay.
  • The prologue of the game has changed!
  • Luna is a strong female character even though nothing we've shown supports that.
  • The girl with black hair? We haven't named her yet.
  • Main baddie? Who knows.
  • Stay tuned for PAX when we'll show the same trailer.
  • Feedback forum! Not ready yet.
  • New stuff at TGS and working on a new demo.
  • Malboro fight with a bunch of seconds of gameplay and a brief stroll through some new landscapes.
  • Product placement for german beer.

It's best if you forget about the game altogether. When it gets released, then it will be a pleasant surprise instead of anticipation turning to despair.

It is? The whole sequence is now supossed to happen with the group travelling. The invasion no longer happens on screen. Maybe just a CG video, definetly not playable.

Like I said before, unless Leviathan was just a 2D bullshot representation in the background, throwing away that whole setpiece would be the biggest waste of assets that we know of thus far, and that includes the early CGI Nomura bullshots everyone's sad never made it in.

If Leviathan was cut in some way he'd be reused elsewhere.

The whole Levi sequence was pre-rendered anyway, by Visual Works. It was never real time.

Scalebound's framerate looks pretty bad too though, and the gameplay level path looked pretty linear.

The one thing to point out between Stella and Luna is that you can already tell by stellar design that she is confident, assertive, like she could kick ass if she is given the chance, Luna is the opposite, she is seen being of maybe the worrying type, apprehensive, and by the way the trailers are set up, almost maybe a damsel in distress who needs noctis to come save, from what we have seen from characters introduced with voice actors they seem to completely fit the tropes of their characters, with the ex exception of noctis maybe not as brooding and "emo" as people originally thought l, but he could still be.
There's also the fact that we had video footage of Stella kicking ass to some degree, while with Luna we're just being told she's a strong character.

If she is a love interest, that already changes what Nomura originally had in store. He didn't intend Stella to be Noctis's romantic interest. I recall him saying something about their relationship was to be something more akin to "close friends"and that Versus was not going to focus on a romance sub-plot. I'm not against romance, if done right. I AM against shoehorned romance just to cater to audience members that go, "Awwww... cute couple! Lovey dovey dovey!!!".

How could I forget driver san? he was the one to wake up Noctis before anyone.

You know, SE should have just turned vs XIII into a movie directed by Nomura and then started XV from scratch.

Noctis orgy!!!

It still doesn't look anything like the trailer. Gaffers with a GTX 970 can't even get the game to run at a stable 30fps on med settings.

Seems the game is pretty big, mentioned by IGN and you can ride your dragon. Yes, it will have an air vehicle and not in DLC...

In the demo there were floating rocky areas I'm guessing you can fly to. Guess we'll see how big the levels actually are at TGS. Didn't really seem open world in their gamescom footage though, and open-world isn't mentioned in their PR.
